Morning Pointe Senior Living

When I first started this job, I loved it. All management would welcome you & recognized you passing in the hallways. Residents were great people & were qualified to be in an assisted living facility. I never “didn’t” want to go to work but as the months continued on, this place became a nightmare. Management started to not listen to anything the RAs/CNAs had concerns about. They would continue to bring in residents that didn’t qualify for assisted living. All the ED & CRD seen was the all mighty $, they didn’t take into consideration of how much of a work load they were putting on their aides. As the residents declined, they would never intervene. The rule of being at this particular assisted living facility is you had to be a 1x assist. There are a hand full of people that are 2x or even 3x assist which was taking away care from other residents. There was 2 of us aides to 45+ residents. One day in particular, a resident that just needed their O2 switched to their portable O2 had to wait 14 minutes because both aides were attending to a 2x assist resident. Management would make messes & leave them or call for the aide(taking away from what they were already doing) to clean it up when it would have taken 2 minutes for them to clean it up themselves. They treated us as servants or slaves. Management couldn’t even take out their own garbage. The residents were always right, no matter what. They didn’t take in our consideration or ask us our opinion before making a “new” rule. Even if what the resident requested was beyond our scope of practice or what a human was capable of doing. The residents were continued to be talked to and treated like babies, even though they were an elderly adult. This place has termites(3-4 months) & nothing has yet to be done. One day, there was liquid black mold coming out of the electric outlets in the lantern & there was black mold behind plenty of pictures. When the place was tested for mold, the ED was told to get a resident out of a particular room ASAP because of how bad it was, that resident is still in that room today. I always wondered why my allergies would always go haywire only when I was at work & this was the problem. Management acted like they cared when family problems would arise but if you couldn’t get your shift/part of shift covered, it would be a big deal & would be told you had to work even though you gave them a 48-72 hr notice. One night, I was so sick & running a fever of 103.2 and when I called the on call management personnel, I was told to either find my own coverage or stay even though staying meant spreading it to already sick residents that immune systems couldn’t fight. One night, they couldn’t find coverage for a charge nurse that was hospitalized & instead of the on call nurse coming in, they left the building without a nurse for 2-4 hours. They expected you to work hours upon hours but didn’t want to help fill in when it was needed. Full time employees used to receive double pay when you worked a holiday, now it’s added in little by little to your PTO time throughout the year. Their health & dental insurance was horrible. Way too high for a $3,000 deductible, dental insurance would only pay up to $1,000 & it was out of pocket after that. Home life & work life balance was awful, you worked so hard 5 days a week and when it was your day off, all you wanted to do is sleep or stay in bed, all because they didn’t want to get us some help. There was no incentive for the loyal productive employees & no repercussions for the lazy, barely doing their work employees. This building needs a completely new management team & maybe employee moral would improve & employees would actually begin to enjoy going to work again.

Everything below is based on my own experience at Morning Pointe, as well as patterns I personally witnessed in the experiences of many coworkers.
The hardest part about leaving wasn't the job—it was leaving the residents and the incredible people who care for them every day. The residents are truly wonderful, and there are many caregivers, nurses, and department leaders who genuinely want to make a difference.
Unfortunately, my experience with leadership overshadowed all of that.
In my experience, leadership fostered a culture built on politics, favoritism, manipulation, and poor communication. What was said publicly often didn't match what happened behind the scenes. If you aligned yourself with leadership and avoided questioning decisions, you were much more likely to be viewed favorably. If you challenged decisions, maintained professional boundaries, or simply weren't part of the inner circle, it often felt like you were treated differently.
The culture I experienced was extremely toxic. Work-life balance was rarely modeled by leadership, and the expectation often felt like complete loyalty to Morning Pointe rather than keeping the primary focus on the residents. Professional boundaries also felt blurred. It frequently seemed that personal loyalty to leadership carried more weight than competence, accountability, or performance. Although I believed there would be opportunities for internal growth, my experience left me with the impression that advancement was influenced more by workplace politics and personal relationships than by merit.
Training was another major issue. Employees were expected to know the "Morning Pointe way," yet very little was consistently taught. New employees were expected to succeed without being given the tools to do and mistakes often resulted in criticism.
While I was at Morning Pointe for less than a year, I witnessed multiple leadership changes within my building, sister communities, and the regional leadership team. It was clear there had been a revolving door of Executive Directors and department directors long before I arrived. That level of turnover made it nearly impossible to build consistency or create lasting improvements before priorities shifted again.    Morning Pointe promotes itself as a company that develops employees from within, but that wasn't my experience. It often felt like loyalty to leadership was valued more than competence, initiative, or a genuine desire to improve resident care.   I will always be grateful for the residents and many of my coworkers.

The most enjoyable part of my job of course was my residents, I loved and cared for them so much. It wasn’t a bad nursing job at all I’ve been a nurse well over 16 years and I’ve worked at some horrid places In my days of nursing, but I would not put this place in category. The only part that was the worst as anyone from the nurses, CNA’s, RA’s will tell you is management is horrible from the corporate office down to the executive directors. They got their favorites the ones the kiss there behinds! Staff there was very nice at least most of them they were all very helpful when I had first started there. Because management sure wasn’t, I’d still be there now if it wasn’t for lazy, two faced managers talking about you behind your back as they sit and smile in your face... LOL! The job itself is great short staffed most nights only 1 nurse that’s fine but the building on the hill Morning Pointe is what it’s called NEVER had a night shift nurse so the nurse at the Lantern had run up there and take care of PRN’s, falls, etc. once again poor management. If it wasn’t for management Like I said I’d still be there I miss my residents and the job usually wasn’t that bad. If you work here beware of the management their all two faced just ask the other nurses, CNA’s, RA’s, and some residents family I’ve gotten complaints on management.  Sorry for the long message I’m just keeping it real, also the managers act like they care especially when you first start well the DON anyway but soon as you’d talk to her an hour or so later the nurse that came in for shift change would tell me the next time I worked EXACTLY what I told the manager the day before!!!

Morning Pointe of Chattanooga is a HORRIBLE place to work.  The Executive Director is verbally abusive, consistently berates her employees and does not provide any sort of positive reinforcement.  Each day, I dreaded going to work because I knew my boss was going to tell me something else I had done wrong or had not done.  Most of the meetings or discussions I had with her involved me being talked to as if I were a child.  She would continually repeat herself long after I had acknowledged her complaints and stated that I would take care of the problem issue.  Many of these discussions involved her telling me I was supposed to have completed a task which I had never been directed to complete. The management style so very detrimental to the employees as well as the residents who pay a great deal of money to live in the facility.  Employees are not treated fairly, given adequate supports on the job, or paid the prevailing wage rate.  In fact, certain members of management are earn substantially less than employees in non-supervisory roles.   Turnover at this facility is very high. I firmly believe this is due to the overwhelmingly negative work environment and the lack of respect and integrity of management.  This is the only job in my life in which I was treated like an uneducated and incapable employee, because I am the opposite of this type of employee.  This facility is a disaster waiting to happen!

Never worked in a place quite like this (not a compliment). There is no communication amongst mgmt to the nursing staff. New orders are often made and changed without notice. New residents show up without nurse staffs knowledge nor access to their patient records. Nurses are often left doing their job and the job of their superiors so mgmt can spend the day socializing. Though all staff and mgmt work as team the day before corporate comes and the day of their arrival. Resident assistants often work short handed but are expected to wrk as if they aren’t working alone. Ra’s are to assist residents with adl’s (which consists of a lot of nursing home tasks such as total patient care-hope you got a strong back), cleaning residents bathrooms, waitressing and steam cleaning dining room linens. Concerns and complaints are never taken seriously and usually lead to a decrease in the complainers hours or termination. Facility is ran by the RN and not the ED. Managerial staff, lead LPN included are in great need of courses that relate to how to talk to people like people, how to be effective leaders and a certain manger needs assertiveness training. I would not recommend this facility to families in search of a home away from home for their loved ones until managerial staff changes are made. I would also not recommend this place as a good job choice at this time. I do hope things improve because the residents that are there deserve better and Morning Pointe has potential to be great again.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I loved interacting with the residents at Morning Point. They were so appreciative thing you did for them, and made you feel like you were a part of their family. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management team is difficult to work with. They pick and choose their favorites and treat everyone else as slave drivers.  They will turn on you in a heart beat and make up things to get you into trouble then they all stick together in their treatment of you.  I am referring to the Executive Director, the Business Office Manager, the Activities Director, the Director of Nursing and even the Director of Maintenance. They do not promote team work. If you are good at what you do, they feel threatened by you and basically make working there so hard that you leave. That is why they cannot keep good employees. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The management team makes the work environment very stressful. It was the most stressful place I have ever worked at. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I never knew what my day was gonna involve from day to day. I knew how to do all jobs at the facility and drive the bus, so I was basically used for whatever needed to be done. The Receptionist job is a joke. Yes, you will answer the phone, because all employees there are REQUIRED to answer the phone. So you will be required to do whatever they tell you to do.

Your morals will be tested here. All staff except for upper management are underpaid and understaffed.  They should install a revolving door for RA's.  They put on a big show to get people to become residents, talk about how much everyone is loved and falsely give the impression that fine dining is in order.  What a joke!!  Most foods are pre-cooked, over-processed and full of junk!  If they want residents to have longevity and good health, it needs to start with good nutrition. The food budget is lower (about 68% lower)  than standards set for assisted living over 6 years ago. These poor residents are being ripped off!!  All kitchen staff have no time to take breaks or a proper lunch break and same for RA's.  RA's are left to work alone many shifts and responsible for 30+ people at a time.  Residents realize what is going on there; they can see that the place is understaffed; they must know there is a problem with new staff coming and going at a rate of about 5 people per month.  Until this place realizes what big mistakes they are making, it will never be a fit place to work.  Communication is a big problem and there is no standard of training for new hires.  Upper management does not care about who YOU are....they will act like they do and talk about you behind your back or worse.  You absolutely have to be an a** licker to stay and be willing to work very hard for very little. I sure learned a lot about Corporate Greed!!

My typical day is fast-paced and rewarding, balancing resident care, team support, family communication, regulatory oversight, and operational responsibilities. No two days are exactly alike, which keeps the work engaging and provides opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents, families, and associates.

During my time here, I have learned a great deal about Morning Pointe’s systems, processes, and culture. I continue to grow in prioritization and workflow efficiency while developing a deeper understanding of the company’s expectations and resources. Management has been supportive and approachable, providing guidance while encouraging independent decision-making and professional growth.

The workplace culture is collaborative, mission-driven, and focused on serving residents with compassion and dignity. Team members consistently step up to support one another, especially during challenging situations and special events. The hardest part of the job is balancing the many competing priorities that arise in senior living while ensuring every resident, family member, and associate feels heard and supported. The most enjoyable part of the job is building relationships with residents, families, and team members and seeing firsthand the positive impact we can make in their lives each day.

I LOVE working for Morning Pointe and am thankful every day ! 

It is based on a great concept but all about appearance. Behind the scenes the caregivers work like dogs with no help and unrealistic expectations. No support for the Director and they only want them to keep beds full, in any way possible. Regional managers say they are focused on the residents but sit and do nothing. They just want PR opportunities to keep the beds full. Regional managers are unprofessional and do nothing but always travel together and sit in the buildings at a table eating and playing on their computers all day. They just make appearances for a few hours and talk about how busy they are even though they sit and play on the computer all day. They make it a hostile work environment. If you do go to them they lie to appease you and turn against you making it impossible to succeed in the job. You are retaliated against if you address issues with staff or ask for help. They do it all behind the scenes and turn the main office against you, slowly pushing you out by making things hard on you and not responding to questions you have to ask them. If this company wants to fulfill its written mission, get did of the Regional managers, human resources and start fresh. There's good staff in your buildings, trust them and support them. Don't just focus on appearance of the buildings by spending money on fancy furniture. Invest in the staff and people they are caring for.

The buildings are absolutely gorgeous! If one is looking for an opportunity to serve seniors who give you a sense of accomplishment and purpose, one could not find better residents!  My personal experience with Morning Pointe taught me a lot of valuable lessons like teamwork, leadership, and communication. My favorite part of the job was the bonds I created with the residents and the opportunity to hear their stories.
Unfortunately, the work culture itself is absolutely toxic. Bullying from management is not only allowed, but perpetuated by corporate. 
Burnout is common in any healthcare setting, with that said, employees are often gaslighted when reaching out for workload help, moral support, and validation. A tactic used to intimate employees include being addressed in a hostile tone in front of coworkers, gossiping, and social ostracization. 
Employees earn "Paid Time Off" but with my experience, every time I requested time off, even if a month in advanced, I was either shamed or guilted into canceling the request or just simply told I would not receive time off. 
This is not a company I would recommend to anyone. People don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad employers.
