Groups are fun, families can be fun to work with. Building positive relationships with the families is great. 
Job expectations are insane! caseloads and weekly 90 min visits even when family cancels repeatedly is stressful. Staffs expected to make up visits and chase families around when family cancels. Staffs responsibility to reschedule visits which cause staff to work later hours(6-8pm). 90 min visits are to long to be in families home especially with small children. Very difficult to schedule weekly visits with mandatory staff trainings, groups, parent meetings etc. Paperwork: duplication in several places, medical and developmental screenings due no matter if parent does it or not. Reminded daily of grant expectations and federal guidelines to the point it stresses staff out. No system in place to alert what screenings are due and when. Job climate is stressful but can be fun. Most staff are nice with the exception of some. supervisors/managers try their best and are not perfect. Great supervision and great feedback. Culturally program could use training in cultural competency.

Teaching consisted of both in class instruction and office hours for student interaction. At times I would offer a study group to help students through a tough topic.

Management has been good in providing training and responding in a timely manner. Issues brought to their attention were always addressed.

The hardest part of the job was the insecurity of not knowing if I would get enough classes term to term and year to year. Job security as a part time instructor is difficult.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with students who wanted to learn and watching their growth and development. I also enjoyed working with students who were struggling because I like helping others. I was able to explain math in a way they understood and show them how to apply principles to new situations, such as story problems. I also helped with study skills and taught how to write a study guide for exams.

I love the teaching schedule and the ability to work at home grading and preparing for classes.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The commute was close and working with first generation students.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
This company lacks a Diversity, Equity  and Inclusion plan that holds staff and faculty accountable for actual and measured out comes for the retention of staff and faculty members. They are “stuck “ in this area and the campus refuses to acknowledge it leading to staff and faculty leaving the college.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is unsafe for people of color and other underserved populations at the faculty, staff and student level . The college has a long tradition of treating underserved populations with respect and dignity 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Challenging due to on discrimination and hostility toward under represented populations.

Mount Hood Community College was a nice place to work a long time ago. These days it is floundering with no real direction. They say staff are their most valuable resources, but their actions do not support their clever words. 

You have to go outside to find a bathroom and when you do, all the faucets are programmed to deliver only cold water. The food has improved a bit, but they have still have a ways to go.

The buildings are falling apart. Don;t wear heals in the parking lot -- you are sure to trip or twist an ankle on the uneven surface.

After more than a decade, I GAVE UP on ever having a Full-Time Faculty position.   They are few and very, very far between.   Don't even think about health benefits or PERS.  Both of those take decades to achieve due to the extremely low number of classes you'll be offered each year.  You won't meet the minimum threshold to earn PERS benefits, nor is there much available to supplement insurance premiums.   It would be difficult to support a family on the work offerings- better to be considered a supplemental job in a 2 income household. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
The dean I worked for was amazing and worked hard to create a positive working environment.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
HR is not entirely competent. The hiring process was bumpy. The worst part was that even though pay is every two weeks, no one told me I wouldn't be paid at all for the first month. I only found out when I had no paycheck deposited on pay day and had to scramble to cover bills.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall good, though it depends which department you work for. It can vary a lot.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Pretty routine. Things move slowly, but the work supporting students is rewarding.

Lots of nice people and very diverse students and staff body. I worked as a tutor and was paid very slightly over minimum wage. You will make more at most fast food places. It is also hard to get enough hours. The most you can have is 20 a week but it will be hard to get that. Management is pretty amazing and I enjoyed the majority of my coworkers. You can definitely learn a lot working here especially if you put in the effort to. There is also some issues with the facility, namely they don’t always turn on the heat in the winter even though it is supposed to be on. Your pretty much have to wear thick winter clothes and still be cold most of your shift.

At The Advocate (Mt. Hood's newspaper), we were required to be informed about everything that went on at the college in order to be able to inform readers through the printed product and the website. Weekly meetings were always productive with editors contributing their ideas for stories for the week. The administration held us accountable for any reporting errors, and all efforts were made to keep information factual. 

The advisers were always ready to help and the atmosphere was very friendly and helpful. The most difficult part of the job was keeping up with deadlines, but that got easier as the year went on.

If you’re a happy and nice person you won’t be after working here.. Full time staff think they are better than you and are extremely hostile. Do not open up to anyone, they will use it against you. Be aware, and guard yourself, you will be tested. No opportunity to move up unless you know someone. Its all about who you know at Mt. Hood Community College. It’s sad how extremely toxic people still have a job here after treating their backups very poorly. No wonder there has been 10+ people who held my same position because the full timer makes them run away… the berating is unbearable.  

I've been working with multiple computers at once, applying disk images/setting up the computers. We used the old software, Norton Ghost, but it worked, and that's all that was needed. My internship supervisor was super good, and I enjoyed working with him and my coworkers. The hardest part was to learn new software, but after all, it didn't take long, and once I was done with it - I could do it flawlessly. Even though this job didn't include working with people, it was all about computers, which I liked a lot.
