Each department/floor is a different world. A typical day is just clocking in, scrambling to get as much done as possible and then some, and then clocking out exhausted, and so on until the end of perceivable time. Time flies but the repetitiveness drones over. As far as non-clinical or entry-level work, it's a place to start your "career" (good first full-time job) and apparently great for many more to work until retirement, a stepping stone. Wages are not very competitive against the average set by the for-profit industry. Opportunities for job "advancement" and growth within the company are slim as most departments are dead-ends that require lots of patience to wait for a challenging opportunity in a different department because most will wait for weeks-months to fill an opening with their idea of the perfect profile. People are very polite. Company culture as a whole can be dull and dry. Some departments/floors have more cohesive and dynamic teams, but most aren't. Most offices and departments are quieter and love their snacks/food. Most employees just blend into the background. This company truly cares about its patients treats them with respect while most staff go above and beyond in taking care of patients and their needs (unfortunately, all levels of Management aren't known for doing the same for their employees). Tuition reimbursement at this company was a joke because the way that it's calculated makes no sense (they subtracted my scholarship/financial aid from what I paid out-of-pocket and then half of the remainder, so I got $60 for a few thousand spent out-of-pocket). Reimbursement for clinical degrees is probably much better. The CEO and President are kind but mostly talk and send nice emails with the same message of "great job... your work is so challenging... I'm so proud." There are opportunities to learn about the information systems and financial aspects of healthcare. The continuous improvement department does a great job to support efficiency and work-life and provides opportunities to actively participate in process improvements. There aren't any particularly enjoyable aspects of this job other than the field of medicine which is interesting in itself. The hardest part of working here is finding the next best step, as this place has potential but not enough to keep its people for more than a few years (at least it's younger people). Not the most motivating place to work. Some teams are close/tight-knit, but most aren't.

A typical day at the pharmacy was getting there in the morning (8am) and unpacking all the medications that were ordered the day before to restock our shelves. I stickered them and then put them away. While doing that, I also had to answer the phones and rang up customers. I also would count the medications out and label them for the pharmacist to check also all during me going through the totes of medications and over the counter items that we carried. 
I learned a lot. I learned the names of the drugs, both brand and generic, what most of them are for. I learned the computer system and how to submit the rx to the insurance companies. Learned how to multi-task very well. There were times I was ringing up customers, having 3 phone lines blinking and pharmacists asking me to grab things for them. 
My manager- He taught me a lot. He is now over at Bayshore Pharmacy in Suttons Bay. He made sure our work was done and being done right, but also let us have some fun while we were working hard. 
Co-workers- there were some I would want to work with every chance I could and others who were pathetic. They did nothing but talk bad about our customers, or our other co-workers behind there backs and that to me is immature. We are there to do a job, not to gossip. They would team up and then gain up on one person and be mean and attack them. It was terrible. 
The hardest part of the job was just making sure I did the best that I could. I always wanted to get all my work done and stay busy. Sometimes, dealing with the insurances, was not any fun. When they would reject the rx for sometimes simple reasons, or other difficult reasons. That makes the customer have to wait longer which I do not like to do. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was the customers and being busy all the time. I like to work fast paced and multi-tasking like that. It's an adrenaline rush and it feels good to feel accomplished. I enjoyed helping the customers out the best that I could. And in a timely manner. They are there for a reason, and that reason is not to have to wait for an hour for the rx to get processed. 
I really enjoy the pharmacy atmosphere.

At the start of every shift, you meet up with all of your fellow employees for your shift and hear the game plan for that day. Your team leads tell you about any upcoming events, hand out rewards to employees, and discuss any changes that might happen to any schedules that day. You're never uninformed or blindsided, which it turns out, is a lot better than most places I've worked before.

Management shuffles around occasionally, but almost all the managers and team leads I've worked with really try hard to keep us happy and moving. Workplace culture usually consists of new employees joining the team and getting ground down into complacency instead of enthusiasm by the older employees who mostly complain to anyone who will listen. When you can find a group of employees you get along with you'll always have a place to de-stress during breaks.

The most difficult days involve a bunch of patients leaving the hospital, leading to a large amount of work devoted just to sanitizing and prepping their old rooms for new admissions to the hospital. Sometimes you can get blindsided and fall behind, but one of main reasons to work at a hospital is being ready to help people. Your leads can almost always find someone who's willing to help you, and I'm sure it'll make your day to see the sigh of relief on your coworker's face when you come up to help them eventually.

Honestly, the best part of Munson is the cafeteria. Most actual meals have a bit too much seasoning for my taste, but the ability to mix, match, alter, customize, and even switch up your diet everyday without having to plan it out yourself is great. There's always a happy and fun moment in the cafeteria. Plus, it's surprisingly quiet for how many people are talking in it. Must've been a lot of planning put into dampening noise.

I worked for Munson Children's Educational Services for 24 years.  Many of the years were very rewarding and I truly looked forward to spending time with our families.  They taught me how to be patient and keep striving to make the center the best atmosphere for the children and their families.  My co-workers, provided a wonderful learning environment for the children along with challenging them on a daily basis.
Creating a positive atmosphere is my number one goal in working in the center.  At times my manager made it difficult to stay positive, so that also created a challenge that I had to work on daily.
My day would begin with opening the center and making sure the classrooms were ready to face the day, and start by greeting the first child that had to get up way too early so their parent could get to their work station.  I would schedule the staff to arrive provide care for the children and then tackle the ups and downs of the day.  Scheduling issues, payroll every other week, staff advisement of the children and the list goes on.  Every day was a new challenge and I truly enjoyed that part of my job.  
Overall, the best part of my job was the interactions with the families and providing a loving and caring environment, so they could go to work knowing that their child is being well cared for and loved.

Munson Medical Center is one of the best hospitals that I've been to. The cardiac unit is very up to date and utilizes the best cardiac physicians around the state and country. Patients come from all over to receive care from this facility. Being a part of the health care community at Munson was a great experience. Management on A4 was good. Manager was very understanding but tough, used our unit as a guinea pig for new hospital interventions. It was very interesting. Co-workers were very hard working and had great critical thinking skills. On a cardiac floor, learning something new is a daily thing. The most enjoyable part of the job was utilizing critical thinking, working with patients and their families, and having hard working co-workers. The night could be crazy busy or a dead, depending on the time of year. Summer was always busier than winter. Usually I had 4-5 patients to take care of for the night. Started at 7pm, recieved report, started by introducing new new via bedside greetings, took care of loose ends from previous shift if able to, looked up patient information, did research, and took care of patients until 7am. Anything can happen at night, staying on your toes was important.

This job is extremely difficult and for the work that you do, the things that you see that affect you physically, mentally, and emotionally, you are not compensated nearly enough for.  A lot of the nurses are new and younger and expect the techs to do a lot of their work for them.  As a tech, you will constantly be running around answering call lights, doing EKGs, drawing blood, helping patients in numerous ways, going to triage to help bring patients back to rooms, sometimes transporting patients up to their inpatient rooms due to a lack of transport, and so much more.  This is all expected to be done on top of stocking all of the IV buckets for the nurses (which I believe should be the nurse's duty since they're the ones who use them), IV bucket backstock cart, suture carts, IV carts, linens and more.  You spend so much of your time on your feet and I had gone days where I didn't recall sitting down once in the 12.5 hours that I was working.  I did enjoy the job as a whole, I just with the nurses helped more and didn't treat techs as their servants at times, and that Munson compensated their employees, especially their ED Techs, fairly for the amount of work they do, especially considering we see people die on a regular basis as well as save lives.  ED  Techs should be more appreciated by the nurses, management, and the higher ups at Munson.

My experience with Munson involved 1 year and 9 months as Case Manager in the Homecare Division. The work was thrilling, fulfilling, and vibrant.  I absolutely loved nearly every moment in the field.  However the relationship with clinical supervisor was contentious and difficult, in spite of numerous face to face meetings held in an effort to improve that relationship.  In the end, the emotional toll exacted by that relationship forced me to search for alternative employment opportunities, along with a severe distortion of work/life balance.  The required hours of work done at home were extensive, and not sustainable.  I gave myself one year to tweak my performance to achieve greater balance, and then hung in there an additional 9 months because I adored the patient care experiences. But the difficulties were insurmountable with direct supervisor and support staff in the office, so a job change became necessary.

The organization does not value their employees nor do they listen to concerns from employees.  The Administration, Human Resources, and senior managers needs to be replaced/changed in order to improve the work environment and culture of the organization.  It is difficult to retain their employees because they do not get acknowledged or respected for their skills/clinical experience.  If you want to be treated like “a number” then this is the place for you.  If the hospital is going to retain employees and increase employee engagement,  they need to start at the “top”.  In other words, the leadership team needs to change.  The front line workers need to be the focus and they need to be heard.  Employee satisfaction will only improve when the leadership team is revamped and improved. People need to feel valued and feel like they can trust/respect in their leadership team. I feel like a “number” and do not want to work for an organization that I can not trust. 

Munson Medical Center and Group are both very nice and professional facilities. They have received many awards based on values, missions, and health care overall. 
A typical day at work is very structured and detail oriented, however much of the problems among Munson relate to a lack of communication. Management has a hard time playing their role because they are not typically one on one with their employees. I have found that they do not take the time to explain things in detail or explain errors and are instead very quick to point blame. The hardest part of the job is lack of communication. The director only takes into account what the manager relays which can get a bit frustrating when the manager is not paying full attention to all aspects. The most enjoyable part of the job is the patients and the coworkers. Munson has great values and works very hard to make each individual feel welcome. Management roles are difficult in every field and industry so it cannot exactly be a "Thumbs down" for Munson anymore than any other organization. With stronger efforts to fix those areas, Munson is an extremely pleasant place to grow.

Let me just start out by saying I loved working here, I planned on working till I finished Nursing School, then I would move up as a nurse. Unfortunately I had the pleasure of working under a manager who felt otherwise. Munson like most companies have a policy where they can let you go within 5-6 months just for whatever reason. I had worked up till the end of that period before I was let go. I had only called in once because I was sick, never written up for any issues, I picked up extra shifts and worked over when needed. I was let go because I was "not a good fit" according to the manager on B-3 South. She then went on to remark and insult my work ethic. I have worked as a Nurse Assistant for 7 years, had several previous jobs and have never been let go from a company, most companies I worked for would love to have me back I know for a fact. I was warned this this manager had a history of doing stuff like this and during my time there she let go/fired several other employees. I've also heard from other sources that other floor managers have done the same practices. Needless to say, I've moved on to a better paying job that also works around my school schedule better.
