Murray-Calloway County Hospital

Not a good employer choice at this time. This hospital has been in dire straights financially since the new CEO, Jerome Penner, stepped in. Compensation is inadequate compared to other hospitals in the region. Benefits are restrictive and poor compared to other plans with the same company. The hospital administrations values have nothing to do with the patient, and everything to do with the $$$. Job security is poor - they have been laying people off for weeks. The only room for advancement is within administration. Administration is a joke - they have no idea what it takes to make a hospital run smoothly, and telling the truth seems to evade them completely. Most of the employees are very unhappy with their employment. In my opinion, this hospital will not exist in two years if management remains the same. The only hope it has srems from physician offices NOT owned by hospital and the business they generate.

I started in this Home Health that was hospital owned as a field nurse. I then advanced to their Home Health Liaison position. This position included several different areas. I marketed to the community and to medical offices; I educated potential hospitalized patients and assessed for need of Home Health upon discharge; I worked closely with the hospital's discharge committee; I also reviewed and assessed reasons for re-hospitalizations and formulated plans with Home Health to avoid. I respected and was respected in the position that I held. The hardest part of the my job was knowing that patients who could/would benefit from Home Health at discharge did not go home with Home Health. The enjoyable part was seeing patients that did go home with Home Health succeed and improved.

I was an insurance biller and we had a lot of bosses come and go.  The turnover was very high.  I worked their over eight years and the department I worked in had at least 8 directors during that time.  And, each one had their own expectations. Although, I learned a lot, most of the time it was high stress because of conflicts with my supervisor.  One day, I was told to do things this way and the next "I never told you that!"  The one thing I loved, was my co-workers.  They were great and they quickly became family.  Although, MCCH is a "family" environment, they can quickly send you packing.  And, the benefits are not very good at all.

Worst paying hospital in the region. Hospital claims they are broke while giving managers and management raises and bonuses. SVe yourself the trouble and drive 35 minutes in any other direction and get $10 more per hour. Recently had a meeting with the manager of human resources to talk about the beat places to work in Kentucky survey we had to fill out. Management was shocked the hospital wasn't on the list and even more shocked the reason was money. The CEO was so surprised, he decided to do us all a solid by putting money in the budget next year for merit based increases. We got those this year. $0.30. Yes. Thirty cents was the average merit based increases. These are the first raises we had gotten in years.

I can expect my day at work to be very hard  and stressful. Since I have become a CNA I have learned time management skills and teamwork skills. I have also realized that I want to get a degree in Occupational Therapy. I do not feel like the DON and the staffing person does their best job at finding us the adequate amount of workers to take proper care of the number of residents and amount of care they need. I love the majority of the people I work with very much! The hardest part of the job is taking care of the high number of people. The most enjoyable part is seeing the smiles and warmed hearts of the residents after providing their care.

I loved treated patients with sleep apnea. I would still be with them, but in order to treat sleep apnea you must work 12hr midnights. I have been on that shift fir 15 years and now at 47 realize my sleep at night is very important to my health. Unhealthy sleep is the underlying conotion to many health problems. Only at night is melatonin and other hormones released. When sleeping during the day none of the hormones are released causing much damage overtime. I am looking to use my medical experience with another great company with a flexible schedule during the day.

Lack of resources at times and lack of collaboration with the local agencies for consolidate resources for the general public

Very cohesive and open to different people from varied backgrounds.

Starting addressing voicemails, looking the census in general and priority your work day based on acuity level

The community that works together on nightshift not just the individual floors but all together throughout the shift.

The parking lot for staff is in a floor area so you have to be ready to move your car for the weather.

A school room dynamic, a collection of characters with varying personalities that all come together in a crisis.

Report, rounds, calls, codes.

Worked part time as a student. Was quite busy early part of the afternoons when hospital staff went on various breaks. Took job seriously because others depended on me. Working with others taught me how team-work impacts everyone in a work place. Management was flexible around work schedules and co-workers helped each other when needed, There was also a lot of pressure to perform tasks during peak times especially if one of the workers was unavailable.

The radiology director is the best director I have ever worked for. She is the most fair, nice and dedicated ever.

Hospital work in general is always a stressful grind.

The department culture is above average. 
The work environment is typical of a hospital radiology department.

Nonstop patient flow. Stress.
