NAFCO

I spent four months as the supervisor for the screw machine department at NAFCO.

The shop superintendent was always available to guide me and help me out, making the supervisor role much less stressful for me.

NAFCO has some very skilled machinists working for them, so as an operator you’ll always have someone to go to in order to get help when struggling.

As an operator, as long as you keep your machine running and making good parts, you’ll run into zero problems with management.

My only gripe about the place was when I was terminated for no reason, literally no verbal or written warnings were given to me, and just a few weeks prior I was told I was doing a great job. It would have been nice to know what I was doing that they didn’t like, so that I could have made the necessary changes.

Besides that single gripe, I enjoyed my time working for NAFCO, and appreciated the opportunity.

People treat each other well. Sometimes rate can be hard to hit but my supervisor works with me on finding ways to be better.

They taught me how to program and set up all sorts of machines. Owner doesn't believe in working on Sunday. 

They helped me with some of my personal life issues and get my life going in the right direction.

The hardest part of working at Nafco in loves park is there are new challenges every day. This can be good or bad depending on your point of view.



Nafco is a smaller company, and because of this the benefits they are able to offer is not really that competitive. Even though the benefits are not that great the work environment is fantastic. The people are all friendly and helpful, there is a sense of community that lots of work places no longer have.

A typical workweek is 40hrs with some Saturdays and never a Sunday.

The management is friendly but not effective at maintaining an effective or efficient job schedule.

Owner has a lot of machining experience. They've been around a while, and I know a few operators from other places I've worked that have come and gone through NAFCO and would go back, so I'd say they have a reputation as being a decent place to work. They pay pretty good but you go through an agency and it may be many months if you get hired in

Working there I had the opportunity to be able to work on different things I never would have imagined working, let alone getting to build it or being part of the build seeing it going from sheets of steel and beams to these massive structures that really served a purpose. I learned so much working there.

The job itself may be laid back when work is slow, but the management and supervisors are unbearable at times. Last minute work and no communication makes it a very stressful and annoying work environment. Also they play favorites. I was told I won’t get a pay raise due to another guy that does another job making around what I make, even though he didn’t go out and learn the things I have and the things I can do.

It is a great company to work for. Personal health insurance is only $5 a week. The owner is very generous at the end of the year for the holidays. 
I worked at the Glen Allen plant the First year and was allowed to transfer to the Cullman plant. There I learned to read more detailed drawings.
I started at Cullman as a Fitter Helper but after a short while I was fitting.

Management do not care about you. You will not make great pay unless you are thier buddy or you family is in management, alot of nepotism. Benefits are not great  $45 CO PAY  $4000 deductible and not a great 401k match. owner will not even shake your hand. I would not reccomend

This company is very politically motivated even having a spouse or significant other with different political views will effect your career there. Fexlible out of work scheduling is a plus.

A typical day included carrying and filling heavy boxes. I learned what a skid was and other terms. My manager was really funny but not very helpful. My co-workers were okay. The hardest part was all the lifting and the loneliness. The most enjoyable part was the learning experience.
