A typical workday included clocking in, reviewing assignments, or patient needs, providing direct care, maintaining clear and timely documentation and completing all duties efficiently before clocking out.

 I learned how scheduling and workload distribution DOES impact staff well-being. Mental health counselors, had to work EVERY weekend, which made maintaining work- life balance very challenging compared to the providers.

 I worked in an environment where management processes could’ve been more structured. Stating there were some gaps in management support and organization is putting it mildly. There were significant challenges with the management, organizational structure, and overall support. This lack of management support affected staff morale and effective leadership in a workplace is very important.

 However, Naphcare does not seem to value effective leadership and CONTINUOUSLY hired ineffective HSA’s and AHSA’s! Concerns were raised to corporate leadership; however, there was limited follow through or no visible change. 

I found the job duty themselves to be straightforward and within my capabilities. The main challenges were with administration and limited corporate responsiveness. I believe administrators would benefit from attending formal management training within their first six months of hire, followed by structured reevaluation to assess effectiveness and provide additional support as needed.

I would only return to this job if another company had the contract!

This company is only good for getting fast money for a short period of time. They overwork you but expect things to be down in a timely manner. Example, you'll have 4 pods during the 1st 5 hrs. of your shift with roughly 40-70 patients each and they expect for you to be completed before midnight. That includes interacting with each patient, completing sick calls when given and doing initial assessments; but as an LPN everyone knows the RN is supposed to do the initial assessment. They do not follow HIPPA law when it comes the patients. They allow the deputies to know what's going on with the patient even though they’re not medical staff. They allow anyone with a badge to talk down too their nursing staff. And most of the deputies overstep their boundaries by going over the nurse and catering to the patients (inmates) because those are there snitches. They disrespect you in the pods as if your one of the inmates. There's NO room for Growth within this company at the Tampa location. The DON is an LPN who doesn't plan on furthering her career and has 2 RNs assisting her. Those 2 RNs were LPNs within this company now what example do you see the DON setting? But since she’s been there longer, they do not want to move her position, even though her credentials states otherwise. I've seen management deliberately ignore a patient needs but once that patient gets sent out the facility, everyone is hands on deck making sure "documentation" was done even IF the work wasn't. I've seen the best of the best get let go, it's all about favoritism and if you are a person who constantly picks up shifts and decide not to, they'll start canceling you. Be Cautious with This Company. You've been Warned!

The best part of working for the company was helping the inmates with their mental illness and finding them resources to go back out into society

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Workplace stress appeared to stem more from internal staff dynamics than from the job itself. Over time the strain from coworker(s) bullying and harassment techniques was not worth nervous system damage and ultimately led to my decision to leave. I was heartbroken because I loved the job and would have stayed until the day I died. 
The company was not prepared for my arrival and first day. On the second day, I was told to not come since Noone would be at the office. I was not paid for that day so it was unprofessional to even have a new employee start. extremely minimal resources for the inmates.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture of the company was a jail setting. The administrative office setting were separated. The higher positions were located in a separate area in the jail, and the social workers and discharge planners along with nurses were a stationed in the pods that the inmates were in. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for me at the company was a long process to get in and out of the building which included taking a shuttle and a very long walk in the building down a long corridor. Once the actual workday started, it consisted of calling various state agencies for assistance to help the inmates set up their steps to continue their lives in society as a normal civilian.

My experience with this company was deeply disappointing. The workplace culture was marked by a small but influential circle of employees who fostered an environment of gossip, exclusion, and unnecessary drama. Rather than encouraging professionalism and collaboration, this behavior seemed to be tolerated—and at times rewarded.

Training was minimal, yet expectations were consistently high from the outset. Employees were often expected to perform at an expert level without being given the resources, guidance, or support necessary to succeed. Constructive feedback was scarce, while criticism came easily.

It also became apparent that favoritism played a significant role in how employees were treated and evaluated. Opportunities, support, and accountability did not appear to be applied consistently across the team, making advancement and recognition feel less dependent on performance than on personal relationships.

A healthy workplace is built on respect, fairness, and effective leadership. Unfortunately, those qualities were noticeably lacking during my time here. I hope the company takes meaningful steps to improve its culture, training practices, and leadership so future employees have a better experience.

The company contacted this provider to offer a Saturday position. During the application process, the full-time provider was terminated - walked off the property - information that was not shared with this applicant. Offered the full-time position but declined (this provider was currently employed part-time weekdays with another company) and accepted the initial offer of Saturday provider position. Four months later, on a Friday was called by HSA and informed that NaphCare is “going in a different direction” with regards to staffing Saturday providers and do not come in the following day. The lack of professionalism by the HSA is not surprising. This was the same unprofessional behavior exhibited by the NaphCare director of nursing for a Texas County Jail in 2007; the company contacted this new NP graduate to provide coverage while a physician assistant was on maternity leave. It is understood that employment can end with or without cause but there is a contractual 30 days notification and to be paid for the next 30 days is just not acceptable especially when this action directly affects patient care. Extremely disappointed that politics and exclusionary behavior (cliques) determines who is promoted, offered over time, and longevity of employment within the facility.

A typical work day is 8-10 hours/4-5 days a week. You are going to your yard and then seeing your "line" of inmates for the day and doing the usual "therapy" stuff of charting.
There are things to learn here, like NEVER forgetting to keep your guard up - NO ONE is a friend - no matter how big the smile... it's all about work. LEAVE it there.
Management needs a SERIOUS overhaul.  Nepotism rules. People from other prisons became management, like the "Lead", and then brought in their friends from those prisons and you're not a part of that relationship. Never will be. They won't get the same yards, they won't get the same schedules, they'll get what they want - you have no choice. The management gets away with it because "Corporate likes them". The FHA never even comes to meet you. And forget CORPORATE. That line about being a "family owned company" is to make you feel like it has a heart. Don't be fooled. It's just like any other company and it's the 4th contractor Arizona has had in just a few years, so they try to keep AZDOC happy rather than be on the side of their employees. 
The culture is toxic making THAT the hardest part of the job.
The most "enjoyable" part of the job is believing that at some point you're actually helping someone figure out their life a little better and that it's not something to give up on.



As an LPN working with NaphCare, the compensation does not reflect the workload or responsibilities placed on nursing staff. Despite the demanding nature of the job, pay remains low, and the company continues to add more duties without providing adequate support. The equipment and computers used are outdated, which slows down productivity and increases frustration. For the level of care required, there should be at least three nurses on shift, not two nurses expected to manage it all and two RNs at all times in Booking. NaphCare needs to prioritize investing in both their staff and resources to maintain quality care and reduce burnout.
Additionally, there is a noticeable lack of incentives or recognition for the hard work nurses put in. Introducing meaningful incentives could go a long way in boosting morale and improving staff retention. NaphCare needs to invest more in both its people and its infrastructure to ensure quality care and a sustainable work environment.


I am a current employee for Naphcare at Score Jail. I really enjoy my job. I have worked in community mental health before and enjoy the population but the management and unattainable productivity made me crazy! I left for private practice and was bored to tears. I decided to try out working in corrections and enjoy my job and the team here so much! I never really thought I'd be in a place where I don't have any complaints. Great coworkers, great boss, great work environment filled with laughter, great pay and every day is different. The work is fast paced and makes my day go by very quickly and I am still able to get what I need to accomplished every day without paperwork piling on my desk. I leave work feeling accomplished and am not taking home stress or worries about how I can catch up from the previous day. I enjoy this population and actually getting to do work that matters without having anybody hang over my head with numbers or feel like I am constantly picking up the slack with coworkers that struggle with doing their job. I am trusted to do my job and I am not micromanaged one bit, everybody (including our boss) pitches in when needed because the team atmosphere is so amazing. The nurses and correctional staff are great, I feel incredibly lucky to have found my place here and plan to stick around. Plus only working four days a week has been awesome!

This company pays well, the schedule works out to be 12 days a month and is considered full time.  It has been an excellent learning experience to work in a prison and learn to deal with difficult personalities and educate the inmate population on their chronic condition.  It is a 6 station dialysis unit staffed with one RN and one technician.  This poses some difficulty because two people running a dialysis unit is not ideal.  The hardest part of the job is working in a basement of a jail and working without many of the amenities that you work with in an outside unit. There are drain flies which are a constant nuisance, it is difficult to get the state to maintain the facility as it should be.  We are a contracted company and must rely on the state facility to address these issues.  The schedule is amazing but it is hard to take a day off if you are ill, have an emergency or want to schedule a vacation unless you can find your own coverage which has been impossible for me to do since the per-diem staff have limited available time.  There is no room for advancement since the home base is in Birmingham, AL and we are located in NY.  Otherwise this has been a great job for me while i finished up my degree.
