I will start off with the hardest parts of the job. The parts that were the hardest for me when I was in the field as a clinician were the charting, until I got a system down, and when you have built a relationship over the months of seeing a patient and you have to DC them from service or they pass away.  They would be very sad to see us leaving them and that was hard to take when they would start to cry.  The most enjoyable part of the job was what was the leading cause of the hardest part of the job, building meaningful connections with the patients.  Most of our patients are elderly and they are sometimes very lonely, so when we are there with them, they want to tell us their stories, and they really have so many interesting things to tell us. It is such a blessing to get to build these relationships with people from all walks of life.
Our workplace culture in the region that I manage is one of Family.  We support each other, we cover for each other, and we are there for each other whether it is professionally or personally.  As in any family, we have our moments, but in the end, we are all there, holding each other up and making sure we are all succeeding.  I also feel like the other supervisors that I work with from the other regions are also like family, they are always ready to cover for you if you need a day off or are going on vacation.  We have a solid team across all of our regions.
What did I learn?  Oh boy, that is such a long and varied list!  Not only did I learn almost everything I knew in regards to nursing, since I was a new grad when I got hired with National Home Health, but I also learned so much about the HH business, when I went into the Supervisor role.  Some of the things I was wondering about, why do we do it this way or that, were made clear when I learned the reasons why they were needed, mostly due to Medicare Guidelines and other governmental guidelines.  I have learned how to work with all types of patients with their varied needs and with all types of clinicians and how to put the right clinicians with the right patients.  The list could continue, but that would be boring to read after a while.  
I will just say that if you want to have a job to learn and utilize your nursing skills on a daily basis, this is it.  You will be doing different things all the time, it doesn't get dull that is for sure!!!

Typical Day at Work  
A typical day depends on each patient's individual needs. Every skilled nursing visit is different based on the patient's diagnosis, wound care needs, or other medical conditions. My day usually involves completing a full assessment, obtaining vital signs, reviewing medications, providing treatments such as wound care if ordered, and educating the patient and/or caregiver on disease management, medications, safety, and ways to improve their overall health.

What I Believe I Learned  
One of the biggest things I have learned is that every patient and every diagnosis is different. I continue to expand my knowledge about various diseases so I can provide better education and care. I have also learned the importance of collaborating with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to help achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients.

Management  
Management has been very supportive throughout my experience. They are available when I have questions or concerns, answer the phone most of the time, and are always willing to provide guidance. I have never felt like I was bothering them when I needed assistance, which has helped me feel more confident in my role.

Workplace Culture  
The workplace culture is supportive and patient-centered. Team members work together to ensure patients receive quality care, and there is a strong emphasis on communication, education, and helping one another when challenges arise.

The Hardest Part of the Job  
The most challenging part of the job is completing documentation. If I spend too much time charting during a visit, patients may feel they are not receiving my full attention. In some homes, poor internet or cellular service can also interrupt documentation, causing work to be lost. Because of this, I often complete a significant portion of my charting after hours, which can be very time-consuming.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job  
The most rewarding part of my job is building meaningful relationships with my patients and their families. It is incredibly fulfilling to see patients become healthier, gain a better understanding of their condition through education, and watch wounds heal or health improve over time. Knowing that I have made a positive impact on their lives is the most enjoyable aspect of being a home health nurse.

I started working here 3 years ago, I was a new-grad RN but had prior LVN experience and was hired right away. The caseload is whatever you can handle with 25 patient considered full time but you can see as many as you want as long as you can stand all the charting. My supervisor is awesome, fair, kind, understanding, helpful! can't say enough she's great! I make my own schedule and start whenever I want and get off whenever I schedule my last patient, usually, I see patients within my city of residence or within the close surrounding towns, but you can see them wherever if you prefer. Occasionally you will be asked to fill in and take on pts when other nurses go on vacation but this is whatever you can handle and I always help out whenever I can, I mean why not, I can always use some extra money and if I ever needed time off, which is rare cause I'm a worker, all you have to do is ask in advance and most time its approved. The office staff is great too! always cheerful and helpful, never grumpy! lol! The most difficult part is the first year, this is where we usually lose a few new hires but if they can just hang in there, things will get better and definitely more manageable. Every now and again census will get low and the patients available will be reduced in my area but if you're willing to go a little further outside your immediate area there's usually something available. Co-workers are usually very friendly and always helpful., at least with me, but then again I have a positive cheerful attitude so that helps. The most enjoyable part of this job, besides the great staff, is the autonomy, but if I ever need assistance whether in the field or at home my supervisor is only a phone call or a text away and most of the times always answers! Another most enjoyable for me is all the complex wound care cases I get assigned! I love wounds! The patients/family are amazing (well, not all of them, lol, but most) and I just love home health and the personal interaction I get going to their homes and being welcomed like family.  If you're an independent nurse who doesn't need a lot of supervision and a people person this is the job for you! I learned so much. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything!

A typical day at work for me includes visiting the patients that I have scheduled with a day or two prior we see the patient and overall check in with them to see how they’re doing and feeling proceed with all the task that we have for the visit making sure they feel nice and refreshed after when we help with their ADLs we want to make sure that they assist so that they can do the task independently when we are no longer there to assist them. Every patient is different so we learn different things from all of them, but it’s very heartwarming to see how much they appreciate us not only for assisting them with the task but also just checking in on them makes a big difference and listening to them and their needs I would say the hardest part of the job is definitely scheduling since the patients have other clinicians that see them and they have their schedules as well. It can be hard for your schedule to lineup with theirs because you do have more patience and it’s best to get them in order. That way you are not driving all the way around some patients want you to see them in the morning some in the afternoon and depending on their location, it can be hard to schedule. Also, some patient’s move a lot slower and it can be hard to get the task done on time without the visit becoming extended visits. We try to do our best to get things done in a timely manner and I know it can sometimes overwhelm the patient because things feel a bit rushed, but we try our best to also respect everybody else’s schedule and make it easier for everyone. The most enjoyable part of the job is definitely seeing the patients smile and feel happy when we are there. Furthermore, the absolute best part of it is seeing the patients being able to do things independently because we were there from the start when they were unable to so it is such a joyous feeling to see them back on their feet. 

Working here has been a great experience, especially as a newer home health nurse. A typical day involves independently managing patient visits, assessments, wound care, medication education, and documentation while coordinating care with physicians and therapists. Although the job requires strong time management and adaptability, there are plenty of learning opportunities.
The management team has been one of the best parts of working here. My supervisors are approachable, responsive, and genuinely enjoy teaching newer nurses rather than expecting them to know everything from day one. They are always willing to answer questions, provide guidance, and make themselves available when clinical situations arise, which has helped me grow tremendously in my confidence and skills.
The workplace culture is collaborative and supportive. Everyone understands that home health can be challenging, and coworkers are willing to share knowledge and help each other succeed. The hardest part of the job is balancing travel, documentation, and scheduling while providing quality patient care, but the flexibility and autonomy make it worthwhile.
The most enjoyable part of the job is building relationships with patients over time and seeing their progress. If you're looking for a home health agency that invests in developing new nurses while still providing independence and flexibility, this is a great place to work.

I started working for National Home Health over 4 years ago. I love being able to write my own schedule and plan my day accordingly. I love how home health has variety and you get to visit different patients throughout the day instead of just staying at one patient’s home all day. You get paid mileage to and from each patient’s home. In home health, you can schedule whatever days off you want each week and take a vacation pretty much whenever you want as long your visits are covered by another employee. Benefits are available for full time employees that have more than 20 visits per week. 

There are only a couple cons while working for this company. 
You have to use your own car to see patients. Even though you get reimbursed mileage, the wear and tear really kills your car. I wish they would provide full time employees a fleet car! I have put at least 80,000 miles on my car just for work. I think it would look more professional to have a business vehicle like other home health companies I have seen. Also, sometimes you will hardly have any patients. You might have 15 patients one week and then the next week only have 5 patients because some were discharged and the office isn’t receiving enough patients. That can be bad when you have financial obligations. 

All in all, I think this is a wonderful company to work for and I would recommend them to all healthcare professionals.

Let me start with the good: supportive management team who really strive to help u succeed. Most coworkers (u don’t meet many in a home care setting) were kind and helpful. The scheduling people could be nicer but often were not. They should be more professional. Do not go into this job thinking u can work per diem or part-time. U MUST be available Monday-Friday. U are the case manager for every patient assigned. It would be nearly impossible to have another job and work at National. Also u have to do weekend on-call every two months or so. It’s not cool. I know a few other employees who said they were not informed of that when they were hired. Usually u will only see 1-2 patients when ur on-call. Sometimes you won’t see any. i did have some busy weekends though. So when ure on-call plan on working 12 days straight!! It’s just not a flexible place to work, unless ur single and have no life! I can’t imagine working here if i had any kids. U would not see them or your significant other. I left last year. I’m so much happier! Until this company becomes less rigid, I foresee a severe lack of employees, which will certainly impact their bottom line. Get a clue National! 

Major pro of the job is the opportunity to make your own schedule, if you have something planned for a day out of the week, you can make up that day by scheduling as many patients you would like to see the other days of the week your available.  Another pro of the job is the support you have with your coworkers; you really do work as a team and everyone is very helpful if you have any questions.  Also, there is never an issue of a shortage in supplies, the company provides all the supplies you need while you are out on the field.  Con about the job is schedule is not really consistent, it all depends on how many patients the RN has assigned to you, once the case has opened, the schedule will be that you would first see the patient 3xweek, then the visits will taper down depending on the needs of the patient sometimes only once per week and then the patient gets discharged after 30 days and then you have to wait for the RN to open more cases.  Another con is that you drive your own vehicle and they only compensate $5 per day, so you can drive to different patients 30 miles away, then next patient will be another 15 miles away and and only get $5 for driving for the entire day.

A typical day includes visiting patients, discussing any issues, providing education to the patients and their families. I'll call the MD with any comments, questions, or concerns that need to be addressed. Then after all of my visits and phone calls I'll document each visit and how my patients are progressing. I've learned that even if you work in a very autonomous role, your co-workers are still a critical part of your team in helping you succeed. 
Management plays a critical role in this job. When something goes wrong, when I am unsure of how to handle a situation or when I need some extra help management is right there to help. They answer my questions and help reassure me of how to handle difficult situations. The workplace culture is warm, friendly and welcoming. I instantly felt connected to the culture and knew I could count on my co-workers to help me with the job. The hardest part of the job is waiting to hear back from the MDs or wait to hear a response from the on-call MD during emergencies. The best part of the job is having plenty of time to connect and communicate with my patients with minimal interruptions.
