This hospital was ranked in the top 15 of most expensive hospitals in the nation but pay scale on the other hand not comparable for central Arkansas.  Critical nurses before covid were overworked and understaffed majority of time.  Nurse to patient ratio most of time 3:1 with astronomical acuity level patients. It’s understood at times in critical care that the need for 3:1 can not be helped. But here at NPMC it was every shift occurrence even before Covid.  The ICU charge nurses are tasked with charge duties, rapid response and code blue calls of whole hospital, having their own 2-3 patients.  When charge nurses are called away from the unit for rapid or codes their 2-3 patients become the responsibility of other nurses who are strained with their own 3 patients, thus effecting patient safety.  Then as if that wasn’t enough ICU charge nurses are now having to report to ER when a patient with sepsis comes in sometimes these charge nurses are called away for hours at a time with rapid or code situations arise. Why would a nurse need to go to ER for a sepsis protocol when there are nurses with critical care experience and a physician.  A nurse can lose their job and license for abandonment, but it’s ok for nurse to leave critical care patients for hours at a time when the hospital says.  
Short staffed in lab and environmental services to the point they Go to work for couple hours then go clock in because they can not complete the required tasks in their shift hours. 
Being for profit, most expensive list in nation and lining managements pockets with bonus’ while employees didn’t get raises for 3 years makes for terrible morale. 
On top of all the covid money from state was not handled correctly and direct patient care employees did not receive the full amount.  
No In house pharmacist At night which should be required for hospital this size.  

Where do I begin? Most units here are often understaffed. Some units float their nurses and/or CNA's so often that it is as though they are actually float pool employees. We are often lacking bath towels, supplies and the tools for us to properly perform our job. Many of the beds are old and in need of repair. Accountability and leadership are lacking, which makes for many rule breakers and lazy employees. Long term employees say the poor management starts at the top at NPMC. There are so many things here that need improvement, that it is over-whelming. Some of the staff are extremely hateful and not patient oriented. The pay is not that of the other large hospital in town. Many of us leave work "sick and tired", determined to change jobs, but changing jobs is a hassle so we keep coming back.

10/10 would not recommend. Lowest pay scale of any area hospital or doctor's office. They do not value their employees. They fire people for no reason, without notice. I've seen it happen to many quality coworkers. It's like they try to keep the worst on staff. Consistent budget cuts. Everyone is walking around on pins and needles and it shows. Administration needs a serious overhaul. Patient care is negligent at best. Our Christmas bonus last year? Didn't have one. The year before was a $1 out of a bag. The work culture is toxic. HR is a joke. If you can avoid working here, do it. The only positive is the coworkers, but don't get too attached. They probably won't be there tomorrow. Also- don't eat the food. It's terrible and will make you sick. No healthy options available. Also, don't depend on the volunteers helping ease any of the load. Their leader is a joke.  Most of the time, you'll find them reading a book ignoring what needs to be done.

I work on the critical care unit which is the step down unit to ICU.  I take care of heart patients and renal patients and have been blessed to be able to form positive relationships with my patients.  My day starts with reports and focused assessments.  I monitor electrolyte imbalances and initiate protocols when needed.  I give blood and blood products and monitor telemetry.  I learned how to do peritoneal dialysis here at National Park.  The hardest part of my job is seeing patients that I have taken care of over the months pass away from kidney failure or heart failure.  The relationships that I have built along the way and the impact that I was able to have on their lives is the most enjoyable part of my job.  I know they have touched my life as much as I have theirs and they will always be in my heart.

I have been an RT for 30 years. I have traveled and worked at many facilities, both large and small medical centers.  The nursing staff is excellent at National Park, their ICU manager, great! Team work between rt's and nurses very good. Herein the problem is the rt staff itself, the backbiting, the lack of management is quite frankly astounding. The director of respiratory is a Pharmacist who readily admits he knows nothing about respiratory care.  They overstaff you and work you short, constantly.  There would be days of 2 vents and days of 10 vents and yes with no team work, your on your own. Good luck keeping your license

Great co workers. Like most Healthcare facilities, it's about numbers and not employees. Admit as many as you can. Even if they must stay in the ER for two or three days. Burn out the floor employees constantlytaking max or over max patient load. Burn out the ER staff due to playing floor nurses and being ER nurses. Good way to kill someone. When it's slow during the summer, flex off your staff so they don't get paid or have zero vacation hours left. Lowest paying hospital in town. Lowest paying hospital from Hot Springs to Little Rock. Saline Memorial may pay less but I believe they have the same owner, shocker. 

Most all nurses, CNAs, maintenance and other such staff are hard working, caring and attentive. But, it's hard for two people to do the job of five when caring for very sick people. Or, a staff of seven to care for forty patients. Especially when a third of them require dress for PPE for covid, etc. Then, a third elderly who need fed, changed, bathed. On top of that, mental health and special needs. Nobody cares to answer the radio because everyone is already juggling several patients. The schedule changes ten times a day and you get points for not knowing the eleventh time they decided to change your schedule on your day off while you slept. 

What can I say the place was a dump while I worked there.Literally disgusting as a hospital and OR.People really don’t understand the life gamble they take as far as infection wise, they take in that operating room.The surgeons were cool, as long as you know your stuff everyone’s life is easier.Management was terrible.To think living in the 20th century you have to communicate with management who couldn’t pass a yearly “common sense” test if they existed.Over worked under paid.I would only recommend a young person fresh out of school to learn/sharpen there skills with as many procedures in a years time frame and move on.

My day starts with a daily morning meeting and discusses problems and what projects are coming up, checking current interfaces and the medical server systems for problems.  My staff has learned to make sure curtain medical devices are up, mainly prescription printers for the doctors.  The hardest part of the part are the unknowns such as hardware or software failures, but I enjoy a challenge in finding an answer and making sure before I leave that operation continues to work after I leave for the day.

Every day is something new, the workplace culture is a very close-knit community, and I love coming to work each day. You tend to form good working relationships with your co-workers, and for the patients who tend to visit the hospital a lot, you form friendly relationships/bonds with them as well. The hospital tries to make employees feel like they belong and like a "family".
