New Hope Treatment Centers

New Hope treatment Center is a great place to get started in the mental health field. If you want to build a career promotions or not hard to obtain but that comes at the cost of an extremely high turnover rate.
New Hope has incredible potential but unfortunately none of the management are on the same page.
Every program has its own vibe and culture which is a major procon.
New Hope is hyper focused on recruiting new people to fill the voids but completely loses sight of employee retention.
For the amount of work and lack of help that one is expected to do and deal with your severely under compensated but on the flip side there's just much overtime as you can handle. But that means in order to make good money you have less time off.
It is not difficult to get time off at all or take vacations.
One of the major downsides of this job is lack of tools and training to handle the residents once they are irate due to insurance and liability you are expected to under react in almost every situation and the residents catch on to that quick which makes the job more difficult and dangerous for staff as well as them.

If New Hope could solve its retention issues on top of up their training to give staff more tools and knowledge on how to handle residents. On top of possibly holding classes to certify people in registered behavioral Health technician courses and up the pay for the actual ground workers then this place will be amazing in my opinion.

But it seems like all the favoritism is for the exempt staff and above everyone else is just cannon fodder.

I'd only recommend working here if you don't attend to stay and you need mental health experience but definitely watch your step until New Hope solves the above issues I mentioned thaen I can't recommend making a career here. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The hours are good. Lots of overtime available. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dangerously under staffed. Resadents are usually will, able and ready to fight you at all times.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The administration wants desperately and needs to change the culture  of the company. This will never happen untill they pay direct care staff a professional living wage starting at 25.00 hr plus benefits.  Starting pay at 16.00 hr is attracting low skill people who just need any pay check and they typically don't treat this are a career path.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive at work : Suposed to get a verbal report from last shift how day went and if any of kids had any issues or situations to deal with. ( Don't get it) suposed to be a full staff but theirs not. Usually a lead and maybe a few staff  But never fully staffed. The routine that is set for kids isn't fallowed  theirs no real structure for the kids or staff to fallow as theirs not enugf staff to respond to disturbances and still keep enugf staff to watch the kids who are not involved. The kids will often bate and switch to pull staff attention away so they can do wt ever the want while staff is breaking up a fight .

I would get report as soon as I came in. make rounds on all 4 of my
units,( rounds were done at lest 3 times in my shift) and do v/s and treatments. I would do controll count with the nurse going home . I would fill out discharge sheets, ttv papers
(residents going out for a weekend vist) make sure lab reports were in that was order.monitor restraints and give prns if needed . monitor any medical complants residents had and place them on clinic list if needed , If staff were sick ,I would monitor them and if needed send them to hospital or ergent care. Make and answer phone calls from pharmacy. geting controll scripts from psychiatrist and updating
them on there residents. Taking verbal orders and transcribing them,
answering med tech questions, and clarifying orders with psychiatrist and np.

. what I have learned ? I have learned that most people are products of their environment.

.time management is as important as prioritiesing the things that pop up though out your day.

The people you work with are so important , each one is a
team member and helps your job flow better .

The hardiest thing on the job was not to let my personal feeling get
in the way of how I do my job, we are still there for the children .

The most enjoyable part for me is knowing I made a differents in a
childs life .

I am greatful for the experience in the Healthcare/ PRTF field, considering I had just received my MS in Psychology and it's a great place to get a start for those wanting to further their education.  I enjoyed working with the kids and building a rapport with them. I learned that a lot of the children just need and want someone to listen & talk to. Only disadvantage to that is you may get to attached & then their gone or some of the children will take advantage of you.

Management & Staffing are only concerned about feeling the need for the day, making sure their is enough coverage. They could care less if you are sick, half dead, sickness or death in your family. They always want your help to cover, but when you need time off, it's like pulling a needle out of a haystack. Very rude, inconsiderate, & disrespectful. However, there are a few good staff still there.

Management will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat to save their own butt, & will lie on you with the quickness. After awhile my job was like a bad marriage,  I was only in it for the children.

A typical day would include waking up the patients in order for them to complete their morning hygiene which include taking prescribed medications, contributing to a tidy unit by completing their chores, completing their hygiene, and eating breakfast. From there, I would transport patients to their classroom or their scheduled psychiatric appointments. Throughout the shift I document the patients behaviors, while using their PCP goal as a reference. I have learned patience and how to interact with children of different ages and diverse backgrounds. There is a ratio of 3 patients to 1 staff. I work hand in hand with management meeting with them to report the patients overall behavior for the shift. The co workers at the facility are very supportive and has the patients best interest at heart. The hardest part of the job is not being able to spend individual time with each patient as much as I would like. The most enjoyable part is to see a positive change in the patient.

Overall enjoyable and rewarding interacting with and helping patients in my particular department. I enjoy my coworkers because I am fortunate enough to work in a well-organized yet laid back department. There is little stress in daily operations and a friendly atmosphere is easily promoted. My contact with patients has taught me ultimate client service and I can easily handle any type of individual that I may have dealings with because of this. The company, however, promotes an overall environment of discrimination toward its employees by inconsistently enforcing its policies. Throughout the company as a whole, this has brought about a general sense of insecurity and unfrienliness among workers. Poor management also makes advancement highly biased and unfair, making more qualified individuals overlooked and even terminated. The pay is also unreasonably low. It is easy to obtain a job at this workplace but keeping it is the real challenge.

As long as you build a rapport with the children your day can be smooth, but that’s no guarantee as they are behaviorally/ emotionally unstable. The “mission” is not inline with what is happening in that building. The children go to school for approximately 4 hours a day, have 30 minutes for recreational time that is a scheduled activity, and watch tv for the rest of the day.  But you may not leave the way you came in physically and management doesn’t value or care about the people that actually interact with the children. It’s a hassle to receive time off, they are constantly hounding staff to pick up extra shifts, they will wait last minute to tell you that you have to work over - covering part of someone else’s shift, and will leave the building understaffed putting everybody at risk. Management doesn’t care that floor staff have families and lives outside of work while they can come and go as they please. A lot of power is given to residents with little to no consequence to their actions and staff are not protected in anyway.

chaotic, unpredictable, and nonsupportive environment,
unpredictable (upon arriving to work that day/night),
don't know the kids on your temporarily assigned unit  and they don't know you,
rules in temporary unit are very likely to be different from the ones in your regular unit, 
job title of Residential Counselor has very little to do with responsibilities, 
Residential Counselors are, for the most part babysitters, and are allowed little to no treatment interaction with the residents, 
little structure during the day with the residents, with few structured activities or daily life experience situations that could benefit their transition into their next living situation.

As the Human Resources Director and Budget Officer of a facility with over 225 employees, the work was rewarding but very stressful.  We had constant challenges retaining the lower level direct care staff because of the long hours and population of clients served in a 24-hour, 7 days per week residential setting.  However our professional staff were very stable. 

The facility was licensed to house up to 150 clients, provided 5 different clinical treatment programs, maintained a year-round Special Education program, with in-house medical staff, and a fully staffed in-house cafeteria.  As the HR Director I ran up to 2 40-hour orientation programs per month and monthly attended job fairs hosted by universities and other organizations.

Mental Health can be a challenging field. We employees at New Hope Carolina's, work long hours trying our best to instill positive affirmations and life skills that can help these young people survive in the world. This job is not always easy but it is very rewarding. I am very thankful to be apart of a company built with employees that come in daily with the attitude of change. We leave our problems from home at the door and come to work with the mindset to speak life into others. Many children we serve definitely leave here much better than they came. Are we the magic pill? NO!!! But we definitely are a caring group of people who care and try our best to make a profound difference in our residents lives daily!
