New Horizons Baking Company

I worked here for over a year and saw well over 20 people come and go before their 90 days because of how mismanaged this place is. If you are a new employee you will be forced to work 12 hour days several days a week with no notice because of other people calling off. Everything is dictated by seniority and until someone else is hired in after you it will be you getting stuck with staying over almost every day. It's VERY hot in there as the whole facility is basically an oven. The managers are insufferable as they micromanage you to death when they spend all day in an air conditioned office. They charge you a lot for uniforms which are mandatory. Most of your overtime pay is taken out by taxes. The HR department will consistently mis manage your time sheet and pay you incorrectly. Dangerous working conditions consist of the managers taking away sanctioned heat breaks, poor air circulation, poor quality of water provided (it has zinc in it), forced over time, unfair pay discrepancies, dirty facilities, and general poor managers. The managers theyve promoted got there by being hard workers and not by being good leaders so the entire place is built on horrible skills. DO NOT WORK HERE. You will not stay here for more than a year.

Nothing positive about this sweatshop. Everyone that works here hates their life. All chain smokers and junkies or simply beaten down and desperate human beings needing a paycheck with not much opportunity due to the necessity of survival while stuck in the busted out rust belt where there are more abandoned factory's and charred out husks of dead small towns than not so there aren't many choices for employment that isn't minimum wage. You will work twelve hours a day, six or seven days a week. They own you like property and can mandate you four more hours seconds before you are set to go home. Management thinks they are better than you even though they're squandering entire lives in a dreary and soulless manufacturing plant like everyone that works there existing as an only a add on to a human assembly line while they drift farther away from their children and families and life outside. Stay away unless you are single and have no other options. You're auctioning on your precious time on this earth for mediocre pay and alienating yourself and family.

I love what I do at the Bakery.  I started out working on the Bun Packaging line.  We pulled out bad product and made sure that the buns were packaged properly.  I also learned out to run the packaging machines, bulk packer and cluster bagger.  I gave days off for the machine operator.  I then started in sanitation which is where I am now.  I spend my days cleaning machinery, tanks, floors and everything else to keep the entire plant clean and sanitary.  I enjoy cleaning and the crew that I work with.  Summers get very hot and miserable.  It is also very hard to plan anything with my family.  We have a rotating schedule and don't get very many weekends off to do stuff with my family.  I am also stuck on a split shift working 10am-6:30pm, so I don't get to spend much time with my kids when I do work.  I like what I do, I just want to be able to raise my kids as well as work.  Our healthcare also just took a turn for the worst.  I might as well not have healthcare with the new plans we have.

the employee's on the the muffin side are very helpful and work as a team. I've learned to help other's and to be a team player, I've learned a lot of job's and I advanced out there. The supervisor's are pretty good people, and they have a lot of responsibilities on their hand's, but they are very responsive whenever you need their help. It's a very fast paced job, especially pullaway. As far as the pullaway position, I think they should have more help as I think we have to do way too much.  I really enjoyed some of the friend's  and really cool people that entertained me at times, but there are a few overbearing  and rediculous people that think they are "supervisor's' out there though. Those same people like to go around telling on people and writing statements on other employee's. I guess you can find that anywhere though. The pay and benefit's are really good!

Work-life balance
No set days off. Expect to live inside the facility because you’re being scheduled for 6 days and having a 7th day added by the weekend. Come prepared to work 12 hours as well because 15 minutes before your shift ends you’ll be mandated for half the following shift.

The culture is awful. Very cut throat. Lack of team work.

Overall
You will work 6-7 days a week. A majority of those days will be 12 hour shifts with little to no notice. Management is terrible and shift supervisors aren’t fit to be door greeters. You will receive minimal training, be left alone almost immediately, and subsequently be punished when you struggle to do your job. Don’t expect any backing from the Union either as they tend only follow the contract when they want to. If you have the option then I’d recommend you work elsewhere.

I have worked here long enough to know everything they say that is to improve work never works or is just a false promise to motivate workers, they say there is no favorites but they’re favorites, seniority doesn’t mean a thing to the company when you are buddies with upper management, and if you aren’t on first shift don’t expect to have an easy day, you come into work to find nothing but utter confusion and not enough trucks being loaded, it could be management that caused it or the workers on the previous shift, but there is always an excuse for them, and then your shift is half the size of day shift and you have to load and unload trailers while having todo someone else’s job so you can do your next trailer, it’s not worth the hassle 

The afternoons and nights there drug on, time went very slow. Learned how to itemize a truck when loading for different stops. Co-workers were great to work with, if you needed help with something there were always plenty of support. The hardest part of job was getting used to the rotating shifts, could work all 3 shifts in one week and was very tiring. Most enjoyable part of job was the free buns or muffins we could have. Management has very poor values for I was let go for taking ONE day off to see dying grandmother.

Im not sure where to even start, except do not come there to work. You will never see your family. Your scheduled 8 hrs shift but mandated everyday after 90 days to 12 hr shift 6 days a week if not 7. Supervisors, leads, and union stewards are all a joke. They do not follow the union contract or the employee handbook. One week its one way the next its another. The turnover rate is one of the highest ive ever seen. They treat you like trash and tell you, your completely replacable, which is obviously not the case when they cant get anyone to stay. The only good thing about the company is the pay and the benefits which in all actuality they could be much better. 

This company offers pretty decent pay for the work. It is a hot and humid environment. However the scheduling is horrible. Your work schedule is not done in advance, so you only have a couple days notice on what days you are working the following week. Management is full of young inexperienced supervisors, that are typically friendly, but the lack of experience shows in ways of organization, preparation and planning. Turnover is pretty high, being that it is a hot place of employment but co workers are overall enjoyable. Job bids go up regularly, so advancement and better paying positions are available.

There is no work life balance.  The Over Time is crazy and yes it pays well but you only get 1 day off a week. Front office gives no concern about employees.  Treat everyone as replaceable.  There is a lot of favoritism and Constantly on your back about any little thing. You feel like you have no job security or you could be fired at any moment for trivial things. Fired a guy of 12 years for un tucked shirt and ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to pay unemployment. The employees are the reason they do so well but treated extremely poor and eventually will fall back on them.
