For much of my career at NELC, I loved working for the company. It was my second family, a home away from home. I could create my own destiny; my manager and other colleagues were open to new ideas and allowed me to participate in initiatives to grow the company and my own career. Outside-the-box thinking was encouraged and I was rewarded and appreciated for my contributions. It really was a great place to work for 7 years. I worked hard and earned several promotions, worked on many large scale initiatives, and was even invited to present at a board of directors meeting for a project I was on. 

This all changed when my position moved to the Woburn branch for my final 3 years at NELC. Despite the rest of the company working great together and enjoying their jobs, the Woburn team always had a chip on their shoulder. It was a toxic environment with cliques and negativity being spewed on a daily basis. Everyone in the world was out to get them and they spent more time focusing on complaining than anything. Even when the company would do something nice like giving away T-Shirts and BBQ lunches, it would be mocked because it "wasn't enough". This attitude and negativity at this branch started at the top. One of the site leaders was one of the most toxic, negative, selfish people I've ever encountered. She promoted this site-wide negativity and certainly led by example. 

In closing, if you are thinking of joining the team in the Woburn location, AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. If you are thinking of joining the Concord, Canton, Portland, or any administration teams, I couldnt recommend this company more. The company as a whole is going places and there is so much opportunity. I'm confident they'll eventually figure out their Woburn problems that keep holding them back, and when they do, the whole company will be unified. My ratings will all move to 5 stars once they do.

New England Life Care was an exceptional company to work for.  A typical day would involve being one of the first employees in the building, greeting my co-workers as they arrived. working with reports to  meet deadlines for essential documentation for patient records. Supporting the Nursing Departments clerical needs, working on projects for Nursing, Pharmacy, Materials Management and Dietary dept. Trouble shooting office equipment, ensuring office as well as nursing supplies were kept at an expected level,as well as checking with our other branches to ensure they also had what was needed.  I was fortunate enough to work with the IT dept to test new software before rolling it out to the rest of the company. I acted as the company preceptor traveling to our other branches as required for training.  My co-workers were exceptional! I absolutely loved working for this company and honestly the hardest part was having to walk away when my position was eliminated.  But the CFO made time to do it in person and explain the reason.  That made me feel like I was a valued employee. The most enjoyable part of my position was the opportunity to mulit-task on a daily basis as well as the challenge to meet deadlines.  I had the oportunity to learn new tasks on a regular basis due to the projects that were given to me.

In the Communications Coordinator role, the primary responsibility is to remain available throughout the shift waiting for incoming calls. Call volume is relatively low, averaging one call per hour, sometimes two or three within that timeframe.
Unfortunately, my experience with workplace culture was negative. I found management and HR to be unfamiliar with ADA accommodations, and when I utilized an approved accommodation, I was made to feel as though it was an inconvenience. Concerns were raised about scheduling coverage rather than focusing on compliance and support.
Performance expectations also lacked flexibility. Notes were expected to be written exactly in a specific format, and deviations from a supervisor’s style resulted in corrective action. I was placed on a Creative Action Plan under these circumstances.
Additionally, I observed unprofessional behavior from leadership, including negative remarks about team members’ abilities.
My employment was ultimately terminated on a Friday, which also happened to be my birthday.
Prospective employees may want to carefully consider whether this environment aligns with their expectations for leadership, professionalism, and organizational culture.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very interesting job. Learned a lot about the supplies that IV’s take.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The person leading the team. Lots of down time for certain tech’s that turns into a very loud and annoying conversation that goes on for a very long time. Very hard to concentrate with the constant distractions.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment had its good days and bad days. I guess chit chat and phones are acceptable in the work place when work should be done.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It started out great but then turned into walking on eggshells because you never knew the mood of the lead person. Someday’s it was busy and someday’s there was barely anything to do. When it was busy I was the one doing the job while the rest of the team definitely disappeared a lot.

Management at New England Life Care is nothing short of chaotic. You have managers that have no clue how to run their department, and you have managers that threaten your position and are rude on the daily. It’s true what they say “people usually don’t quit jobs, they quit managers”. I’m educated, I have a B.S in management and had asked to do something that would challenge me, not even asking to be in a leadership position, I was then told I wouldn’t like any other position and that they all were repetitive with little to no challenging factors, without even being offered a job shadow which they claim to pride themselves on and do for all new hires. I have never felt so under valued as a worker in my entire professional career. If you’re not going into a clinical role at NELC I wouldn’t even bother applying. Everyone is miserable.

There are good days and stressful days and how you manage this internally, verbally with your supervisors and team make this job.  Being able to accept help, work as a team, work independently and communicate is what is needed.  The company is always going out of their way to recognize and include employee's.  The manager's door is always open even with dozens of things on her plate never would feel unable to communicate to them.  Huge growth potential within the company makes it even more rewarding.  Been like a family since day one and going on 2 years.  The expectations are set high and have seen people not able to meet it but expect NELC to never lower their standards.

I throughly enjoy coming to work at the Concord branch. There is a very Energized atmosphere here. Everyone is working for the common goal throughout each department, very team oriented, positive conversations with one another & plenty of fun potlucks and celebrations. The DOP & Management in the branch are very receptive and open to suggestion. I’m very appreciative that our management team (including DOP) have no problem staffing if/when needed. I’m proud of the environment created here to make it a happy and comfortable place to be, there is a big emphasis on work life balance. I find the pay is comparable & there is always room for growth at NELC.

Your co-workers can be great people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Extremely poor leadership and management. Even after years of experience, they still do not know how to evaluate the work the company is generating and be able to manage and hire accordingly.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Extremely stressful with uncaring management. They just want to get in and out of the building as quickly as possible.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Enormous amount of work constantly being pushed down on you. You're on your own and management is not concerned with putting themselves in your or anyone else's shoes.

I have worked for New England Life Care for over 2 years and can't say enough positive things about this company. They truly care about their employees, especially when it comes to work-life balance. They go above and beyond to ensure their employees have all the support they need, which has become even more apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Management has been phenomenal, constantly checking in to make sure their employees have all the support they need.  I could not ask for a better place to work.

I feel I am helping people and the company does care about their employees 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with intense calls. I have the tools needed.  Sometimes the supervisor doesn’t seem supportive

CARES. That is mission.  They do care. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I have many tasks.  I take calls in real time.  I work in collections, and in 3 different folders.  It is incredibly busy and varied.
