Initially I was impressed by the facility. It appeared they were very concerned for staff happiness and cohesiveness. I very quickly learned that, although the appearance was impeccable, the reality was very much different. Staff was very much separated into cliques and new staff was judged very quickly. If the leading "mean girl" disliked you for any reason--from the style of your shoes to the color of your stethoscope, you would never be one of the choice few whose schedule requests were guaranteed and chose whether or not to answer a request for back-up. Ironically one staff member would spend the better part of her shift in the med room texting friends, other times searching web sites on the computers for retail sales, travel arrangements, and to check her schedule. As an experienced nurse, I had learned what procedures were easy for me and what procedures were not, but I was neither asked to assist nor was I offered learning opportunities where my skills could be improved. At once time I came to work not feeling well. While at the triage desk I briefly lost consciousness (either falling asleep or from illness) a patient reported the incident--my manager removed me from from my assignment and demanded a urine specimen to see if I were on drugs---no BP was taken, no check for blood sugar, nor any other medical check was done. The assumption was that I was on drugs and that determination remained with me throughout the remainder of my tenure with the facility. Shortly after that incident, I was rushed to the hospital from my home for much the same behavior. Upon arrival to the ER, VS were obtained, as well as a complete examination. My temp was very high. A lumbar puncture was performed and based on its result a CT scan was completed. I was immediately transferred to another facility. Within hours I was taken to the OR and a large spinal cyst was removed. Per the neurosurgeon, a more timely diagnosis could have avoided the extensive surgery that was required. He was mystified by my ability to work for so long and by the treatment I had received at my place of employment--a thorough exam could well have caught the neurological symptoms I was exhibiting. I eventually returned to work with a PIC line for ongoing antibiotics. I had been working on a Masters on-line and just completed it. The facility recognized the achievement by noting it in the hospital newsletter and using it for Magnet renewal.  Throughout the months I continued to work there was never a day that my manager did not ask about the need for continuing meds and the PIC line, and by her tone and posture it was clear the questions were not the result of caring, but more of questioning my situation. Then the questions actually began "We're concerned that you might not have the stamina" "How are you doing when we get so busy""It must be really difficult to do this now" In short time I was fired
"because I made a joke about using the computer" when someone else had not signed off and I was just checking a lab quickly "not staying with my patient" when I asked another to get an IV and she agreed and told me to go do some charting now while she's caring for the patient," "You fell asleep that time" meaning when I lost consciousness briefly" "We just question your competence" In the meantime the nurse who spent her day texting and surfing the internet was promoted to manager and another, who clearly was lacking in basic skills remained in their employ. It is NOT a place I would recommend.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in this organization ( department i worked) my typical day involved managing an excessively unsafe workflow where I was assigned to handle the demands of 3–4 providers in addition to 2 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). My responsibilities included patient phone calls in average 20-25 per 7,5 hrs work/day , responding to emails, managing call center messages, coordinating internal communications, and processing medication pre-approvals including writing appeal letters. Despite the overwhelming workload, there was little to no acknowledgment of the strain this placed on patient care or staff well-being.
The environment was marked by constant changes in job responsibilities, with team members being added or shifted without any proper communication or transition plans from immediate manager. This lack of coordination often left me learning new skills on the go, without adequate training or support. Micromanagement was pervasive, with strict oversight aimed solely at preventing overtime, rather than fostering efficiency or safety.
One of the most challenging aspects of this role was the complete absence of mid-level management support. Concerns raised about safety, workload, or retaliation were either ignored or met with hidden consequences, leaving employees in a vulnerable position. The workplace culture further exacerbated these issues; employees were treated as faceless entities, adhering to the motto of “You in standard NYP uniform—no name printed,just ID badge, no unit, no personalization. We don’t want you to be identified. You are a replaceable robot.”
        The hardest part of this job was witnessing our team slowly deteriorate under unprofessional and ineffective lower-level management. The lack of communication, respect, and support created an environment where intuition became critical. If something felt wrong, my experience taught me that it likely was—and it was time to consider moving on.
       However, amidst these challenges, the most rewarding part of the role was the opportunity to use my knowledge to help patients. Advocating for their needs and providing clinical staff with support gave me a sense of purpose and fulfillment, even in a difficult environment.
             While this position allowed me to grow in resilience and resourcefulness, the systemic issues within the organization prevented it from being a sustainable or supportive workplace for long-term success.

It's a good place to put your foot through the door. You could stay at entry-level and it gets comfortable. However, seniority takes precedence above all else. If you're expecting a promotion in 3-5 years, good luck. Even if you're amazingly knowledgeable, or you can take action, it doesn't mean you are guaranteed a promotion. Sure, they'll give you a yearly raise. 1199 gives raises as well but other than that, you're pretty stuck at a cap unless you study and want to go to a higher position. Like for example, nurse, tech, lab, physician, etc.
The schedule sometimes gets hectic, and not the entire hospital is open 24 hours. You may get 9-5 Monday, 7-3 Tuesday, 4-11 Wednesday, 7-2 Thursday, etc. If you could handle that, then you'll be fine. You may also get overtime. They may also have you hired as part-time working as full-time, which isn't bad since they do pay overtime.
The job itself is not bad, it's the people. Sometimes patients will give you a hard time, that's alright since they're there for a reason. But wow, some employees are just straight up whacky. Some treat people like trash, no joke. I've had good experiences with some employees but I did get harassed quite often. Was there a reason? They were simply bored. They can't mind their own business so they'll try to get into yours. You know how they say to separate private life and work life? That separation does not exist here.
Some employees abuse the clock-in system. Let's say a family member is having non-threatening surgery or even a simple x-ray at the outpatient facility, one could just take PTO (Paid Time Off) instead of staying on the clock. If it's an emergency situation, I could understand. If it was scheduled then there really isn't an excuse to do that.
The infamous smoke breaks. Wow. "I need a smoke." = Gone for 15 minutes every hour or so. Plus you get 30 minute lunch and two 15 minute breaks. What? So you're getting a 2+ hour break everyday. Nice.
They're minor things but could build up to something bigger so try to take control before things get out of hand.
In the end, I did enjoy my experience there. There are a lot of good people, you just have to find them. Do your own thing, don't let others get to you. Rumors - they fly around. Ignore them.

P.S. - Management and HR probably won't be able to do much for you so you'll have to take action yourself. Management is unable to see the lower levels and HR could only go with hearsay.

Typical day at work would be coming in grabbing patient meal tickets for whatever floor I’m running setting up the trays cold items condiments utensils etc. Having morning huddle then not too long after calling out the hot food and pouring hot beverages for patients trays. Once done calling out heading to the floors to deliver first halves to each correct patient checking wrist bands and MRN. Then I go downstairs and do it all over again setting up calling out grab my tablet extra coffee condiments for the top of cart  and back to delivering the rest. Then after I’m done delivering I take the patient orders lunch dinner and breakfast for the next day. Patient orders will vary depending on specific dietary restrictions and requirements. After I finish with taking patient orders I sweep all dirty trays from the floor and bring them down to dish room before I then stick the fridges and go take a break til the next huddle. Then once back again do the same exact thing for lunch time building ,calling ,delivering. At the end of the shift making sure all orders are taken as some diets may change or new admits may come in and then sweeping the floors for dirty trays again then time to leave. 

I believe I learned more about certain restrictions of diets and what people can or can’t have to where I know it like second nature now. 

Management can be a little iffy but at the end of the day they have a job to do themselves. 

Hardest part of the job would be timing if you run later on building or calling food it will put you behind for patients and taking orders which can leave you scrambling for the rest of the shift as there’s only an hour and a half to take 25-35 patients orders which can take 5 minutes per patient so time management is really crucial for the job. 

Most enjoyable part would be talking to patients and connecting and communicating patient satisfaction is the most important I like getting to know who I’m serving.

This was my first job out of PA school, and I cannot recommend this to any of my graduating friends.  You are completely unsupported here.  Attendings do not teach, you are rather looked at as if to be a glorified secretary.  The PA leadership is by and large awful.  I don't know at what point I deserved to get treated so poorly, but it became very clear that this was not an organization that I could advance in.  PTO that was initially approved, and then magically unapproved - after that battle I cut my family vacation short by two days... my family was thrilled when I resigned from here.  On the plus, My peers were great.  Compensation was fair for an NYC PA, however, look elsewhere if you want better compensation.  NJ and CT are much more fertile grounds in terms of compensation for PAs.

Working with nursing staff is a mixed bag, some are excellent, most are average, some are just a danger to patients and your medical license.  Being that they are unionized, it leads to a lot of mistakes that can potentially be costly to patients.  Became very hostile after a coworker reported a CNA for a real, and repeated issue that compromised patient care and safety, nursing staff was very hostile to PA staff following that CNA's completely justified termination.

Phlebotomy is another unionized service.  As a PA here you will routinely find yourself cleaning up their mess.  EKGs that are not performed.  Timed lab draws that are missed or just flat out not done.  STAT labs will never be performed by phlebotomy either.  When asked to draw a lab that was not previously scheduled, they are extraordinarily and outwardly hostile.

In short, I cannot warn potential PAs enough.  Avoid this institution.  You are not treated as a clinician, but rather as a secretary and technician.  Pushing drugs that nurses do not feel comfortable pushing (which is ridiculous), drawing labs, drawing ABGs, getting EKGs.  And once you're done doing everyone else's work you then need to do what you were in supposedly hired to do... be a clinician and make medical decisions.

I was nervous at first when I first walked into those doors as a transporter in training. However, being trained by senior staff, learning the layout, and being walked through the process really put me at ease. I recieved hands on training experience which was necessary since shortly after training ended we entered the days of COVID-19 being rampant in the hospital. The hospital ensured we were as safe as physically possible before handling any job we were tasked with. N95 masks were on short supply, but we were always equipped with them before handling jobs that required them.

This hospital has opportunities in its union's programs, including educational programs that cover tuition so you can advance not just in your own department, but within the hospital. Its physically demanding work made easier by the high quality equipment, expectations that are reasonable, and a polite range of co-workers that care about your well being.

Nobody is perfect, but I feel confident I gave a strong performance during each shift due to the enviroment bringing out the best in me. It was truly rewarding to help as many patients as possible even if it was in the simple matter as taking them from A to B.

My reason for leaving was unrelated to the job, which makes me sad. I did not want to leave, and both my co-workers and even management did not want to see me leave either.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is no growth if they don’t like you. They will gatekeep you and you will not have any employment options. They have a click at within nursing management at NYP Lawrence in Bronxville. Their click is private and very tight. You will only know what is going on if you are experiencing. Human Resources is also working very closely with this management click and you will not have any growth with employment. They will do everything and anything to hold you down or back from future employment. This company has given me the worse impression and experience working with them at this point I am afraid to go to the Director of nursing or the Vice President to take this matter into their hands. Do not work here if you plan for future growth because you will set yourself up for disappointment. Good luck

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, gossip a lot, nursing management aids this a lot. Negative energy, they take anything you say and twist it and fight you out. Things might seem good when you first start but will only get worse. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful. There is always some drama and you pray it’s not you at New York Presbyterian Lawerence Hospital in Bronxville, NY or Westchester, NY same location. Nursing management assist to this gossip be very careful. Working here is so stressful because you have to constantly watch your back hoping you don’t be to kind or say the wrong thing staff their is constantly searching for and opportunity to make you the target.

A typical day for me begins by checking my emails and addressing any urgent matters as quickly as possible. I then check the staff (45 people) timecards to assure their time is correct. After that is completed, there can be various things I would have to work on such as special projects with the practice administrator, ordering supplies for staff members, ordering new furniture if necessary, contacting facilities, IT or bio-medical engineers to address any issues, order housekeeping supplies, create any flyers if necessary, update staff with any information, attend to meetings and keep minutes, arrange meetings or luncheons or assuring certain bills are sent off to accounts payable for they can be paid off.

I have learned a lot working at this organization. I have learned how to multi-task, how to work with payroll/Kronos, gained more knowledge in Excel and most importantly how to make sure that our patients leave the clinic satisfied. 

At my current place of employment, everyone especially management, makes my day very enjoyable. The work is fair and I feel like we are heard when we need to address something. My day can be busy, but my manager and co-workers makes my day go by smoothly. They are very understanding, patient and makes me feel appreciated.

I believe with my organization and ability to multi-task, it makes my job manageable. There is nothing that I can say is the hard about my job. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is when I know I have done something to keep the practice running. It can be from making sure a computer is fixed so it can be utilized by a doctor to see patients to ordering the supplies needed to continue patient care.

Everyone was friendly, kind and helpful! The opportunities were endless, many training programs provided for advancement, housing, great employee health clinic, great benefits, and awesome teamwork. A typical day went fast, you always had what you needed for assignments, everyone did their jobs productively. Great food to eat in the hospital, as well as; outside of the facilities, even a hair salon in one of the builings; you could get your hair done on a break. On friday's (payday), workers were allowed an extra twenty minute break to extend your regular break to go across the street to take care of your banking business. The hospital always showed their appreciation for the staff with lavish celebrations, music and gifts. We got 20% discounts to all of the area restaurants and Macy's with your employee ID. The hospital owned many apartment buildings in the immediate area in which they rented  to it's employees and the rent came out of your paychecks. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dr. Oz. Management was fair. There were just a few slackers. They also paid for schooling and Columbia University School of Nursing was a block away. The campus consisted of nine-ten buildings; Children's Hospital, Cancer Institue, Library, Original building, two Psych buildings, just to name a few. The hardest part of the job was seeing the patients suffer with their illnesses. I enjoyed working for NY Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. The perfect work environment, but personal situations called for me to leave New York.

•	Preparing daily and monthly Purchasing Reports for all NYP campuses, (Allen Pavilion, Westchester, Cornell and Columbia) within the food and nutrition department.
•	Deleting and adjusting invoices incorrectly entered in Cboard computer system.
•	Perform recovery (charges), the calculation of how much each department is to pay back to the food & nutrition department for meal services.
•	Performed a fiscal court to add skipped and back dated invoices in the monthly reports. 
•	Train and oversee work of other accounting staff
