Employee Beware! If you are conned into taking an offer from Caliber Home Loans formally Vericrest Financial (Vericrest) you will find yourself being placed into a magical time machine that will take you directly back to high school. Drama drama drama...blah blah blah. There also is no HR representative onsite in this office leading to an anything goes/say anything type of work place-Management included.

Next is the lead generation....there is none. Good luck finding anything that isn't taken by other sales reps. Selling the product is like fishing with dynamite. You can not build a strong enough pipeline to hit your growing quotas. I'm serious...entire teams are not hitting there quota this quarter. If you do take an offer, be sure to negotiate a base pay that is able to provide for your family/lifestyle, because most likely you'll be paid that and maybe a little little more.

Overall...look elsewhere. Say no to the offer and go to a company that has better lead generation. I would of recommended it awhile ago when I first started but sadly I would not recommend working at Caliber Home Loans/Vericrest.

The only thing good about this place is being able to leave at the end of your shift.

Unless you can make friends with the right managers there is no job security, a person who's been employed at least 10 months is considered a veteran.

Commission structure has limitations and stipulations and can change with no notice to the employee right up to the time you get your paycheck. Yes you might end up being shorted on pay because they saw they were going to pay to much and decided it was best to pay out less commission. 

Expect you to make so many calls a day when you run out of people to call after your 3rd week of employment.

Leads are recycled amongst your coworkers so after you've been working a lead it will drop into someone else's lap and they'll get credit for the deal. 

Again, I can't stress this enough, horrible management leads to a atmosphere where it is not possible to be guided to hit sales quotas.

If you are not buddy buddy with upper management then you will never be promoted...even if your sales are better then your competition.

Management, directors are there to micromanage and basically be "stat-checkers" (for lack of better terms), management brings no creative value to the company, sales reps do all of the work while getting belittled, one AVP in particular has no idea what she is doing and should be fired.

The Good:: Foreclosure “FIRST LEVEL” management does not micromanage. For the most part they give you your space and allow you to come in and do what you are supposed to do. Some really nice & friendly employees and “first level” managers.  You just have to weed them out. I got along very well with my assigned manager, supervisor, and my co-workers on my assigned team. My particular manager trusted me to come in and do my work and often encouraged me to work towards promotion. That was appreciated, as that is not always common. So if you’re lucky to get a supportive manager,  good for you. 

The Bad:: Poor “UPPER” management due to their attitude, lack of knowledge, and poor leadership. Upper management and some lower level managers do not know how to communicate effectively with non-management employees and often lack etiquette. Plenty of office politics. It’s not what you know it’s who you know and how well you tap dance. If you think you will be recognized from the merit of your work alone you would be mistaken. Many holes in the work processes. It is a throw it against the wall and see what sticks type mentality. Nothing is ever 100% thought through before launching. Management cannot continue to use the “we’re a work in progress…these are growing pains” excuse. Fix the holes and implement change. Also make all departments accountable when the stages of the files are not moving like a well-oiled machine. Other Departments act as if everyone does not work for the same company trying to reach the same goal. Pay could be more competitive. Especially for the amount of work they expect a Foreclosure Specialist to do on a daily basis. Often felt over worked and under paid which at times made me feel underappreciated. No overtime. At all. Ever. Poor work culture; too much gossip and rumors, often felt like high school, people constantly getting too comfortable and crossing boundaries. A person cannot just come to work, mind their business, and do their job. HR has  no “official” process in place for employees to apply internally. Very unorganized. Computer system and network needs to be upgraded. Slow and constantly down. Honestly, I could think of worse places to be but at the end of the day I never felt like the work environment was a fit for me. It was a paycheck.

Worked for caliber home loans for 3 years and during the three years I was never able to advance to a diffrent position and this goes for everyone who worked in the collections department. Management is terrible, they talk about all the employees behind there back. 

The only reason I know this is becuse a friend who worked in management from this company told me. They said they look for reasons to fire people who are on fmla and who they didnt like. 

The collections position also micromanages every thing you do for example if you clock in one minute before your shift starts you had a discussion with your manager about it. Any late charges you would credit on a customers loan was looked at very closely and you had to send a report on each accout to a member of management on why you credited a late charge. 

If a member of managment tells you to do something BE SURE TO GET IT IN WRITING! Email chat something, If you dont it will come back to you and you could be wrote up for not taking calls when you were told to do a special project in the first place. They make you take calls that arnt even part of your job such as customer service calls when your in collections and deal with past due accounts.

The bonus structure is very hard to reach.they They change it all the time and once I was told by a member of managment "to many people are hitting these goals so we had to make it more of a challenge so that everyone isnt collecting on a bonus" Also overtime was never an option when I worked here it was always mandatory.

The job is extremely stressful even if it was collections the customers and co workers make it tolerable. The worst part of this job is the managment. There is so much I could write being at this job for three years but if this isnt enough to have you avoid the collections position in the oklahoma City office I dont know what will. I did attempt to disclose alot of this information to human resocures when I worked here however I could never seem to set up a sit down with them or have them respond to my emails I sent. Also when I left I was never given the opportunity to have a exit interview with this company. 

I feel this job would be great if it wasn't for the bad managment that runs the collections department in Oklahoma City.

Mandatory overtime, lunch breaks removed, short 15 minute breaks, no team meetings, main management  dislikes minority women and find any reason to fire them, favoritism highly shown, management don’t help agents continue to learn their jobs, lack of continued training, you have to teach yourself the role. The bonus is difficult to get after your probation period ends. You’re lucky to make $100 on the bonus monthly. They tease you with $800 on the bonus for the first three months. Management promises to give cash incentives $25 to $50 sometimes for working some overtime then you don’t see that promise on your check. So, you work for a incentive you don’t get. If you ever have an issue with management and report it you end up fired and even if they’re wrong they don’t get reprimanded. You cannot trust management. Main management has the tendency to speak very disrespectful to women employees and has even went off on the employees publicly and through emails. Avoid at all cost the stress, lack of being respected, treated fairly, appreciation for your hard work goes unnoticed and the lack in pay isn’t worth the poor treatment overall. Very, very high turn over rate! Seen up to 10 people leave once they come on the floor and due to being treated so poorly by main management  if they weren’t fired for something small then they resigned. I’ve never seen such a high turn over rate and management is the reason. Majority of employees in this department or either looking for another job or waiting for their year to transfer out of this department. Horrible and worse job experience ever! Also, constant system issues the systems used to do your job hardly works properly always errors and crashing. Customer experience is not a priority nor is educating the customer. The focus is on how fast you can get them off your phone which is horrible as well if you’re the type of person truly wanting to help the customer.

This was my 1st time working in the retention department for any mortgage related business. My experiences span over 15 years at from MLO to acct rep. I have returned to the mortgage industry several years a miss. This review is based on my insight from my time at NPF. 
MLO's are to work up to close an average of 10 loans per month. You would think being in the retention department that closing a loan in 30 days would be realistic, and should be realistic. But not the case here, loans take way too long to process, therefore closing 10 loans per month you need to build an enormous pipeline. The problem with building an enormous pipeline is you the need for an enormous amount of leads. Again, not the case! After being told in my interview the company acquired 2.5 million loans, loans that is, not volume! so leads should be falling out of the ceiling, pouring out the spigots. piled up on your desk. Again, not the case. 
The leads you do get, half are high LTV's, low int % rates, as well as bad credit from the newly acquired loan portfolios.  Then to top it off starting in my 3rd month, they decided that the 1st two deals go to the house and we now had to working 3-4 hours on Saturday.
A lot of lathering each other goes on with management who think because they are your boss, have a little money, they are better than you. It is like "Revenge of the Nerds!" 
 
Lastly, this job was not a good fit for me to say the least, but if you are a young go getter and want to get licensed, it may be good for you. Just understand that you be working like you are in a sweat shop. And although the Mortgage Industry has changed regarding licensing and regulations it still is infested with snakes, liars and thieves. These snakes, liars and thieves survived the years, like survival of the fittest, to keep their breed strong and robust!

NOTE: The new upper management that came in from DiTech will push out the current regime with the help from a current manager.

A typical day at work was disorganized and discouraging. There was a clear lack of structure in training, and support was minimal. I was encouraged to ask questions, but every time I did, I was met with frustration or passive-aggressive responses that made it clear I was seen as a bother. It made the learning environment feel unsafe and uncomfortable.
I had hoped to grow within the company and contribute meaningfully, but there was absolutely no room for growth or development. The team leads were consistently rude and condescending, and it felt like they had no patience for new hires. Rather than being coached or guided, I was made to feel like a burden for needing help—something that, in a training period, should never be the case. The workplace culture was toxic, and morale seemed low across the board. It didn’t feel like anyone actually enjoyed being there. It was more of a survival mentality than a team environment. The hardest part of the job wasn’t the work itself. It was dealing with management’s attitudes and trying to stay motivated in such a dismissive and unsupportive atmosphere. The only somewhat enjoyable part was connecting briefly with other new hires who felt just as confused and unsupported. That solidarity was short-lived though, since turnover was high and many didn’t make it through training. Unfortunately, I didn’t even make it through the full two weeks before it was clear they had made up their mind about me. I wouldn’t recommend this employer to anyone looking for a respectful, growth-oriented, or team-driven workplace.

Overall Ratings: Encourage all applicants to read reviews. The hardest part of the job the volume work assigned (outside of daily job duties), the high level of skill and concentration to complete coupled with unrealistic deadlines.  Additional workload and daily deadline or "must have by EOD" is crazy.  To finish job duties, and additional work, individual must work overtime daily.  

Job Work/Life Balance/Culture:  Expected to work 8 plus hours a day, management is unconcerned with family, children commitments, and/or the individual.  Management attitude centered around "what can this person do for me in a day, how much can they do and/or how much will the do?  Employees are numbers and balance is unimportant.  

Movement, collaboration, and teamwork undervalued.  If not a part of the "cool club", then employee is invisible.  Bullying, gossip, mean-girl/boy behavior rewarded by management.

Experience was unpleasant; and, shocking.  Culture is stuck in the 80's call center model.  Job presentation upon hiring completely different than job experience.  Individual feeling: how dumb is this employee, and, how long can I get this employee to perform her job tasks, the additional tasks, without breaking?  How much can they do for me vs. employee valuable member of team.  Hourly vs. Salary in re to medium level job and/or upper level work:  Hourly is detriment because an 8 hour day is unrealistic.  Work and task assigned cannot be completed within the normal 40 hour workweek.  

If you work to live or have children, read reviews.  All of the above-mentioned experiences were career firsts.  Did not know this type of environment existed.

This company is growing and has lost most of what little touch with the employees they once had. Instead of investing in current employees and increasing salaries with the recent tax cut, they expanded. In my area, The expansion has seen a whitening of the staff. My area values youth over longevity, experience, and knowledge. It encourages speed over accuracy. The bonus structure is used as a punishment rather than reward. Supervisors encourage thought, suggestions, and working within one’s authorized yet undefined  scope. But they do not value or appreciate these same attributes when exercised. “Open door policies” to constructively speak about issues and concerns is often met with reprocussions. The employee handbook is only a suggestion and is not applied universally or equally across the organization. Professional credentials are neither valued nor encouraged and if you have them, it may become difficult to maintain them. The environment is that of a very busy, overworked factory. The same thing day in and out. They claim free meals as a benefit of working there. The meals consist of a birthday lunch where you listen to statistics about the company, a Thanksgiving lunch, and a Holiday party at the end of the year. Other lunches happen if a client is in town and buys lunch for a department. If they want you to work overtime they may have something. Free lunch is not a regular thing to expect. The popcorn on Fridays is nice. The on-site nurse practitioner is a very nice benefit. 
If you want to work here, be college-aged, healthy, quiet, smile, agree with everything, get your daily quota done (accurately or not), don’t have any ideas, don’t have activities or commitments outside of work. When you accept your position, double check what they really hired you to do-it may not be what you interviewed for.

If your life is headed nowhere, then this is the place you should work. If you have a moral compass and care about your health, self-esteem and home life, I'd stay clear of this place.

I committed more time than I should of at Caliber and paid a very heavy price. Between moving deadlines (like weekly) to moving directives (does 2-3 times a week sound excessive?), no one, including myself, had a chance to succeed. Sure, there were little pockets of calm and happiness, followed by weeks or months of chaos where no one was at the helm. 

Sinking ships almost can never be saved. It's best to watch the ocean claim them from the safety of the shore. Caliber is the ship, you should stand on the shore if you are thinking of working here.

I lost a big chunk of "me" after working there, and it's taken some time to build myself back up. It is akin to a bad marriage, and I almost gave up a 16 year career because of Caliber. 

Most are miserable to some degree or another and most of their daily frustration isn't with the job itself, it's with management (I use the term loosely). These yahoos came in from hill and dale and some other places I can't/shouldn't say aloud, and they sadly brought their bad habits with them. They use their incompetence to micro-manage their teams, demean and destroy any self confidence senior team members had and then brush them off to the side when they become bitter or emboldened to speak their mind. I did, and I am sure that is my legacy at Caliber, not the work I did. 

I have moved on, but if you get a job offer at Caliber, do not let the lure of a large salary or the overused speech "We are a dynamic and growing company with a solid reputation" catch you in the cheek. It's not true and it will never be true no matter how many times it is said.

Newrez is a decent place to be if you're starting out in the mortgage industry. They will train you from the ground up, pay for your licenses, and provide inbound/outbound leads. 

However, the company as a whole seems to be too focused on growing and buying out other companies/servicing rights rather than addressing the myriad of existing issues. 

Management is relatively disconnected from their front line staff and only seem to care about numbers. Goals are only attainable through overtime or manipulating the system.

Their programs/systems are consistently slow or down. Thankfully their IT department was easy to reach for the most part. 

The processing and originations departments are very disconnected. There is no clear guideline on which department is responsible for which parts of the process. 

The processing department is very understaffed and seem to have a high turnover rate as loans would constantly be reassigned. Processors and their managers are very difficult to get in touch with, and seem to only respond when issues are escalated. 

Management does not care about the customer. If a customer has a slightly abnormal situation, you'll be told to move on to the next deal or to refer them to the processing department instead of helping them find a solution. I was reprimanded for having loans with unresolved issues and was also reprimanded for trying to resolve said issues/taking complaints because I wasn't on the phone bringing in new business. 

If you are willing to sacrifice your happiness, sanity, and your personal life for great pay, this is for you.
