At Holt there isn’t much of a way to “climb the ladder” in a job advancement. Unless you are a director/manager you are stuck where you hired in. During my year and a half there we went through about six dietary managers. In this time and after we lacked food supplies (because of the constant switching of managers there were times when the ordering was incomplete or incorrect), staff and overall leadership to continue a positive and effective work moral. Doubles were becoming a regular for our scheduled shifts and there was not a fair sense of rotation on who was responsible to pick up next making it the same people and burning them out. Because of this, time for my kids and I were sacrificed along with constant struggle to find on demand care for when needing to pull doubles for lack of staff or the impulsive firing of staff members abruptly on our administrators part. Also, the promised bonuses were either forgotten by HR on payroll and then when asked to fix it would fail to add it on. The lack of respect for the resident’s care and wellbeing along with the facility’s staff truly reflected on how the administrator held their title and cared for the nursing home. The lack of help and emergency on situations were appalling. They would be content having two CNAS run a hall and making one nurse wrap on two. They were content knowing only a cook and aide were left to feed up to 90 residents without the correct food items and safe working areas. Especially being the handling on Covid outbreaks which were terrifying (having a Covid positive nurse treat the Covid positive residents), not to mention the continuing of accepting new admissions. If you like left over food from the managers meetings or cold pizza instead of living wages, fair and SAFE work environments, then yes, this is the place to work.  But if you care about making a difference and having your work ethic be appreciated and noticed along with encouraged then please, do not start your CNA career here or agency with them. Do not hire in with nexcare facilities and please do not ruin your mental health by working at THIS specific facility. 

Some people are very friendly, while some need professional training. The kitchen is chaos. The entire place needs help really. You are expected to not only work in the position they hire you for but also in other departments. For example, you could be a resident aide and have to assist the understaffed kitchen staff. If you work in the kitchen and have an older supervisor, you may have a tough time. If you’re new to a kitchen position and don’t have much experience, you may be made to feel inadequate, especially by the older supervising person, who tends to criticize and nitpick everything you do. Everyone else there is decent, but professionalism training is needed like I said. My supervisor thought it was acceptable to talk negatively about me to kitchen staff and even people in other departments while I was nearby, assuming I couldn't hear them. The same person also had the audacity to ask me if I was pregnant because I had been sick for a couple of days in a week and had to leave work early. Little did they know, I can't get pregnant, which made their comment quite insensitive. Save yourself from lots of stress and possibly rudeness. If possible, consider working somewhere else.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Short staffed all the time, doing many departments work you normally wouldn't do at other facilities as a CNA. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poor work culture, less than supportive management.  If you aren't a DON favorite and speak up for fair work practices as they are adding more and more clients to your work load and other shifts work to your work load watch out!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely busy. Walk in and make all the breakfast trays for your hall and pass them all out to your residents and set them up and feed your feeds before you can even start patient care. In addition to your patient care responsibilities of 12-16 patients on a regular basis you regularly will have to go get linens and other supplies not properly stocked, do housekeeping services, as well as do meal service for three meals like you are a waitress and busser, take your linens down to the laundry room and take out all your own trash outside.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Not one thing. They are number driven only and do not genuinely care about staff or residents

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Walking into the buikding daily knowing nothing you will do with truly help the residents or the staff

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. Tolerable during the honeymoon phase and the residents are great, but after they figure you out, you are expected to go above and beyond daily but upper management does not participate in the many tasks asked of management. It quickly became a war zone with the addition of new management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Chaos. Every single day. Planning strategies to cover up resident care concerns or management lying to you and residents on a daily basis. No accountability is ever owned by anyone.

Do not work here. One of the worst places I've ever worked at. While I loved my residents, management and co-workers are very toxic. Management doesn't care about CNA staff being underpaid and overworked. Residents are not able to be properly cared for due to lack of supplies and lack of staff; a lot of times due to scheduling not allowing full staff. They send people home or don't staff adequately. About 90 percent of the nurses do not lift a finger to help CNAs who do the bulk of the work. They are extremely lazy and are too busy on their phones or sleeping while the CNAs run ragged. It's not fair either to the CNA's nor the residents as they are not provided the proper care they deserve. It's sad that nursing homes have come to this. Even the residents are fed up with the poor quality of care. State does nothing to make things better. Do not believe those high ratings. It's a facade.

This place is terrible they do not pay enough they accept any kind of patients the nurses here feel they can talk to you any kind of way they  management and payroll department is terrible you have to call corporate to get things done they can’t never keep no staff they expect a lot there residents report you and they will believe there resident over the cna they residents complain about there food is terrible the rooms are very old fashion they still using crank beds this is an terrible place to work the DON does not no her job .....they also give the CENA sometimes 17 to 20 people which is not staff working short or not I prefer gonelse we’re this not the place to work it’s terrible dirty and nasty and old fashion

Providing a sense of purpose to the people who live there.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Witnessing the lack of care the guests receive from lazy staff. 
Blatant favoritism and bullying from top management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hostile environment caused by uncaring lazy aides pushing their work onto the aides who care about the guests.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Frustrating. This company hires people for one department then forces them work in every department. The director shows blatant disregard for the care of the residents (guests).

When i worked here some of the nurses were terrible. Yelling at cnas. The management lies and also yells when you stick up for yourself when something goes wrong. Beautiful looking facility but horrible staff. Overworked underpaid. The patients that need to be assisted with two people are only put as one person assist. Patients fall and nurses tell cnas not to worry about or document it. Tube feeds aren’t properly monitored I’ve had stomach contents spilled on to me from nurses who lacked care and empathy so they half assed everything. Advice is to find people who are willing to help you when you need assist.

Nothing really they don’t listen to our concerns.

Working short, and doing other departments jobs. Which makes us cut our tasks with our guest.

Work environment was great. But carpet holds lots of germs. Culture seems only for the higher staffing. Management. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Overwhelmed everyday walking trays, sometimes having 14, 16 people to take care of.

The most enjoyable part of my job was interacting with the residents.  The most difficult part of my job was trying to communicate with the DON. She liked to hear herself talk and never was able to give a straight answer.  A simple question would turn into a 30 minute conversation and by the time it ended the question still wasn't answered.  But I knew all about how she fixed a problem when in reality it was her management staff that fixed a problem. Too bad she was unable to listen to her staff and employees that have been longtimers.  The place would have run a lot smoother.
