Northwest Specialty Hospital

NWSH is a great hospital that focuses on providing its patients with optimal health care. Employees are valued and respected, and management is typically on top of managing any conflicts or drama. I have worked in three of NWSH's clinics and have seen synchronicity of care and similar standards for employees demonstrated across all three departments. The hospital itself makes it a point to showcase its appreciation for employees through hospital sponsored events such as our annual summer BBQ and raffle contest, discounted tickets to local hockey and baseball games, free cruises on CDA lake, and our annual Christmas party with raffle contest. There are always opportunities for employees to learn and typically options for employees to progress within the hospital, whether that be lateral or vertical changes and promotions. 

NWSH does provide poor health care insurance/benefits, however they have applied cost of living wage increases and yearly merit increases to help offset these costs. 

Overall NWSH is a great company to work for- they value their employees and ensure that the collective hospital is working towards providing its patients with the best care in the community. 



Working at Northwest Specialty Hospital has been an incredible experience. From day one, I’ve felt valued and supported by both leadership and my colleagues. The workplace atmosphere is welcoming and team-oriented, making it easy to collaborate and grow within my role.

Archaic work culture, and it shows. 

There is very little reason your administrative staff needed to be crammed into a small working office like sardines. Absolutely no WFH policies set in place for staff even during COVID- with an exception for management of course!

Many of my former coworkers were very nice. That could not be said for some of the practitioners and surgeons employed here. Because this hospital is physician owned some providers feel they can walk all over you and speak down to you.  A very toxic work environment if you aren't dealing directly in patient care.

Pay was abysmal. Not at all competitive for the surrounding area. After leaving NWSH I quickly found work entry level coding work that paid more and gave the option of WFH without any false promises. I have received two raises since working here and couldn't be happier at my current position.

If you need a foot-in-the-door job at any costs, this is the place! If you want a career you can see yourself in for the long haul, look the other way.

Each day I come to work I am greeted with smiles and hellos from peers and patients alike. Our CEO Rick knows everyone by name and will always stop to say hello. The environment is fun and friendly, and there is ample support from management and peers.  A healthy work/home life balance is encouraged and supported here.

The culture of commitment to co-worker and our ability to create a positive caring environment for our patients, has kept me at Northwest specialty hospital for fifteen years now. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Growing pains. Any time a small hospital starts to grow it becomes more difficult to maintain the culture that creates a caring and supportive environment for our patients and staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We strive to create a positive and supportive work environment.  Our jobs are very fast paced and stressful, therefore having the ability to have fun and feel valued is essential. In my experience Northwest Specialty Hospital does this very well.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clocking in,  taking excellent care of patients in collaboration with my co-workers. Helping each other and having fun along the way. It is an exceptional experience to not dread going to work and to truly be a part of a team.

NWSH is a very fast-growing hospital and a wonderful place to work. The leadership team truly cares about each individual and leads by example. The culture at NWSH is the best I've ever worked for, everyone is authentic and truly cares about what they do for patients and the community exemplified by their “Patient’s First” approach. Excellent work-life balance with top-notch benefits. The leadership team treats you like a person, not an employee which is probably the thing I appreciated most when transitioning from my previous employer to NWSH. This is reflected in the benefits, culture and how leadership approaches employees. NWSH gives plenty of opportunity to learn and grow in your role, and management gives the ability for individuals to work independently and prove abilities without being micro-managed. Leadership recognizes every individual for the jobs they do, and they go above and beyond to appreciate and reward efforts. Overall a fantastic place to work that prioritizes the community and their employees.

In a specialty, we start the day off bright and early by making sure patient charts are current and ready for the day(adding the charts for late add on's). We start procedures at 6:30am being the first one and finish the day at 4:45pm with clean up. I learn something new everyday but I am currently in a new role so that is to be expected. The workplace culture is unique and the management shows and tells the employees how good they are doing and gives constructive feedback. We work towards having open communication in our team and work-life balance. There are several opportunities for growth within our specialty. I started out as a CMA and was offered a lead role and then completed my schooling and became practice supervisor. My favorite part of my job is getting to see the people I work with and seeing them grow and learn how to better their roles for our patients.

North West Specialty is my first job after completing college. I was placed here during xray school for one of my clinical rotations. NWSH was by far my favorite we have some of the best patient care you can find and the people are awesome to work with. Everyone gets along really well and works well together to provide our patients with the best quality care. There are many different shifts you can work that will give you your preferred work life balance. Even though the hospital is fairly small compared to other facilities nearby we provide a very wide range of care that allows you to learn many different things. The imaging department has great management as well as the hospital as a whole. The best part of the job is working somewhere that patients are willing to  travel from several hours away just to receive the quality care they can expect from us. 

I joined Northwest Specialty Hospital in 2020 on the patient care side, I have since transitioned to a business role. This hospital at its core believes in providing the best patient care possible, and in order to do that they first ensure the happiness and growth of their employees. The positive family culture, incredible teams, and community impact are a few of the reasons I chose Northwest Specialty Hospital as my work home. My managers have a deep interest in my career growth, personal goals, and development which is a high priority for me in choosing an organization. My co-workers leave the ego at the door, are understanding, listen intently, own their roles, they raise the bar, and operate from a place of love and not fear. I believe with this team we will be able to grow the organization and further impact our community and provide high quality jobs. 

I have proudly been a part of the NWSH family now for a little over 8 years. As we continue to grow to meet our community's needs the culture remains the same compassionate, supportive & family oriented one I was drawn to from the beginning. I work with a great manager who makes me feel valued as a coworker as well as a mom, wife & daughter. She's gone above & beyond for me in times of need & she has taught me to be more confident, compassionate & patient in every situation. My job includes working with insurance which can be challenging at times. However, in the end I feel a sense of accomplishment as well as gained a little more knowledge. I love where I work and who I work with and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for me at NWSH!
