This company was created to offer in home care to work exclusively with former department of energy workers who have been diagnosed with work related illnesses. Which is a great purpose and mission, however the company is poorly organized, and leadership is below substandard. 

I was hired as a case manager, that included supervisory work, helping patient's problem solve, and coordinating medical care, this were all skills I was eager add to my resume. The patient population seemed to be intriguing, I looked forward to the travel around town, and was very excited to begin my work with Nuclear Care Partners. My orientations was  close to non-exsistant. Orientation consisted of 2 one hour sessions via skype with their  "educator". The rest of the onboarding was initiated by the other case manager in the area at her home, going over charting. I brought this up to leadership several times, only to be told "its usually not like this" and they apologized but never made corrections, or gave official orientation. They did however provide a large manual with outlines of the orientation process. 
Soon, I discovered that I would not be functioning in my role as a case manager. I was told I would be working an 8 hour day no weekends, with occasional on call hours. My second week of employment I was already expected to work 12 hour shifts, and was being asked to work weekends, and evening or night-shifts. I would be used as a private duty nurse/house-keeper, caring for mostly independent highly functioning patients and their families, not a case manager. 
The majority of families and patients are enjoyable to be around, but I too often found my self acting as more of house keeper, completing duties as capable family members sat and watched. Dusting, moping, preparing meals, cleaning toilets.
Shifts varied anywhere from 2 to 12 hours, shifts that were longer than 2 hours consist mostly of watching patients sleep. Patient's often seem "put out" by RN presences, as we do take up several hours in their day. 
Management both at the district and regional level have a difficult time with communication. The Colorado Manager who resides in Grand Junction, seems to be a novice RN, and is extremely new to her role in management. She has difficulty with communicating, she overly communicates with out communicating a thing, if that makes sense. She finds difficulty in being transparent, she will say one thing to one employee but mean another thing to a different employee. Following through with expectations also seems to be difficult for her as well.  Many of the staff RN's complained that she spoke "down" to them. 
What was the most disturbing is that the regional director was most concerned with RN staffing of patient, and not the business model of the company. Currently NCP Denver has only one full time staffed RN,no CNA's are employed at this time, and the rest of nurses are travelers, if you need hours you have to be open to working weekends, and night shifts. NCP does not care about their nurses, only about having a warm body to staff the patients that marketing sets unreal expectations for. 
Health Benefits are ok but a tad expensive. 
On the upside if your looking to not due much in a nursing capacity, this is the job for you. Charting isn't to extensive, the company gives you points to follow. Pay is about 36-40 dollars an hour.

It's a chill nursing job for the most part, so chill that I sometimes can't believe I get paid what I get paid compared to the work I do.


The vast majority of the patients/families and your coworkers are great to work with! You definitely get to make connections with your patients and their families! 


Management... I've been told by other employees who have been here longer than I have that management seems to change like 1x a year. I feel like the current management is trying their best to try to make things more organized and consolidating staff to patients near their homes, but it's not going smoothly. There's definitely still a disconnect between management and staff, even though they're trying hard to fix it.


Hours... There's many nurses (and CNAs) who are unable to get the full time hours that they need, so many of them have to find a better job. I'm looking for one right now and I know multiple other coworkers who are forced to do the same. It's hard to survive on 0-20 hour weeks when we signed up to work 40. You can try and speak with scheduling, but it seems that they're so busy that they either take days to get back to you or not get back to you at all. And depending on where you live, your side of town may not have enough hours to pick up, but you have no access to the vast amounts of hours available in the team for the other side of town. 


On top of that, I hear rumors that they're still hiring nurses even though many of their current nurses are short on hours!


...And that is how if you have not enough hours, it will take WEEKS to MONTHS for you to get a full time schedule. That's from my personal experience & the experience of others I've spoken to. If you work here full-time and this is your only job, you have to gamble with the fact that if something happens to your regular patients, there's no security for you. 


PTO accrual sucks, you get like 5? days a year.


Training... what training? You go on one shadow shift and then you get thrown out by yourself. A lot of things don't get explained to you. Good thing the charting is easy. 


In short, if you like stability and this will be your only full-time job, don't work here. 
If you just want a part-time gig, this is a great company to work for (for that extra cash)!

I don’t even know where to begin. When I worked here it was Severely understaffed. You pick up hours because you feel bad for the client. But the company will call and pitch a fit over $2 because you put your differential in for the hours but nights doesn’t get differential past 6am. A whole $2, not to mention the company gets paid regardless if the patient has coverage or not. There is no work life balance, you can’t get days off because there isn’t staff to cover your shift so cancel your plans and don’t count on having a life. No one checks on you there is no team. And if you ask for help with anything they can’t be bothered just give you a number to call to handle it on your own. You basically work for yourself. They only call if they need something. I never heard from one person in this company when I worked there. No one checks on you, or the client. They don’t appreciate your time, how hard you work. Or the things you have to put up with or your personal life. The only enjoyable part of the job is the client. Management should show appreciation for their staff, it’s a bit of a slap in the face to the people that are working hard and showing up and taking care of the people that provide their salary. You get more appreciation from clients and family on a daily basis. Very disheartening and that’s what made  me search out other employment options. It’s clear that this company doesn’t value their workers. Take a look into all your offices and workers and what they do for you not just a select few. 

NCP has been an amazing nursing work experience for me. I have been a RN for 25+ years and never have I felt such satisfaction and a rewarding experience in patient care than I have with NCP. The one on one patient experience and building relationship allows me to make a difference in my patients lives. I have seen the benefits that patient education and nursing has on improving patients overall quality of life. It's so rewarding to see your patients joy and love for life return when you make a difference. NCP is always open to suggestions and allows its staff to work independently. They encourage "Thinking out of the box" to improve patient care and are always looking for ways to improve. They go above and beyond to make patients satisfied and deliver the best possible care. Management has been very flexible for all my personal and work needs. Almost all nursing facilities say they put patient care first, most outfits put financial concerns first, effecting the quality of patient care. Not with NCP! Patients always come first at NCP. They have been the only company I have worked for that truly believe and care about patients more than anything else. The world would be a better place if all nursing facilities followed NCP example and caring values for their patients. It's a privilege to be part of NCP!

It can be a great job if you are lucky enough to be assigned to a patient or patients who have hours that need to be filled. This is like shift nursing, I guess. You see one patient for 3, 4, 7, 8, 12 hours, or however many hours and days the DOL (and the patients’ primary doctor) says the patient needs. They’re all long term patients. It’s not like typical home health where you see a bunch of different patients a day, and they’re discharged after 60 days. For instance, you may have a patient that was approved by the DOL for 4 hours, 3x a week. Or 5 hours, 5 days a week, or 3 hours once a week. So, unless you’re lucky enough to have a patient or two that need a lot of nurse hours filled, it’s slim pickins. They may offer you one or two patients a week that equal 8 hours. Or someone who needs 24 hour care and they offer you the night shift. *eye roll* It’s nice you don’t have to worry about wound vacs, PICC lines, or ports (Thank God). But it can be stressful if you aren’t getting enough hours. If you have a patient that you’re seeing regularly, and they pass away, (it happens, they’re all elderly), then you have no hours, no money, and you’re basically unemployed. Then when you tell them you’re getting a new job, because, you know, survival and all, they give you attitude or the silent treatment. 

I love the patients they are incredible to work with. I feel the clinical department is a failure and will be looking for other work along with many others. We are overworked, untrained and the benefits are a joke. NCP has become just like all the other home health companies that they once criticized for unethical practices, overworked, and untrained staff. We have all these "new" programs yet no one is properly trained on them. How can do the Breathe Better Program if I am not trained on it? The family caregiver program online video is remedial at best.  The clinical department needs new management, new leadership from the VERY top, and training that is pertinent to the EEOICPA program, which never happens. When you keep dumping more and more work on someone with no incentive they are bound to look elsewhere. What do the regionals do? Except sit in on endless meetings. The drastic culture change is obvious to everyone this past year and fears it causes more and more people to look elsewhere and resign.  We are not valued or appreciated anymore. The once-great employees with solid experience, professionalism are dispensable, taken advantage of by piling on the workload.  It's horribly disappointing we've become just like all the other DOL providers-

NCP was founded by two RNs who are passionate about caring for the individuals we serve.  They have created a culture of care that is unparalleled in the industry and they will often roll up their own sleeves to pitch in when assistance is needed.

Coworkers are the best -- they collectively have a can-do attitude and are willing to go the extra mile for patients and employees alike.

Typical marketing day consists of making calls, holding outreach events and speaking with referral sources and potential patients.  Much follow through is required to ensure patients have a valid Department of Labor Medical Card and NCP's billing department are all experts in processing those claims and keeping on top of requirements.

Most enjoyable part of the job, aside from the awesome coworkers, is speaking with the men and women who we serve and learning about their work experience during the Cold War.  These folks literally ensured our country's freedom and it's an honor to serve them.

I tried for many months ( nearly a year) but can't deal with incompetency. Many times I received zero communication from regionals - I mean nothing. It is often discussed the Executives are way over their heads and this lack of leadership is going only to hurt the company. Talking in circles about programs we offer but no one is trained. It's embarrassing, uncomfortable and it is 100% the fault of clinical leadership but the programs do have a value yet no training. The onboarding is probably the most tedious, long process I have ever been through. Many of the RN's are very unhappy and bewildered by the lack of training, leadership, or understanding of the basics of the EEOICP Program. I am a great nurse but this is not typical nursing yet no one is available to assist, guide, and explain. I was told to reach out to the Marketer in another state and she was more helpful in a 30-minute conversation than anyone in clinical. I am so disappointed yet I will miss my darling patients- they are truly awesome individuals but as a whole, the Leadership Team is very ineffective and lack the knowledge or expertise to carry the company to the next level. Everyone seems to be chasing their tails. 

I loved my patients. My co-workers were great and supportive. Unfortunately not many stick around because the compensation is ridiculously low. They claim to pay competitive wages, but the hourly pay is much lower than the competition. Mileage reimbursement is also significantly lower. Charting is done online but you must provide your own personal laptop. One is not provided for you. If you aren't able to chart in a patient's home due to lack of wifi and have to do it at home, you are not paid for your time. And I have never seen a hiring packet that was as extensive as this company...close to 50 pages which I had to pay to fax to their corporate office in Colorado. The orientation consisted of essentially a Skype conversation with a nurse in Arizona. There was no job shadowing to speak of. I got the impression that the corporate office is more idealistic than realistic. I ended up going back to my former employer after a couple months at NCP. The out-of-pocket expenses involved with this company are most definitely not balanced by the compensation and there is definitely a sense of disorganization within the office.

First of all, please note that I am only part time and I am a LPN.  I don't have any benefits at this time. I don't think k there is advancement for LPNS. I enjoy working for NCP because it is one on one care in the home with the patient. It is a relaxed job and not at all stressful. I get to take really great care of deserving patients without feeling rushed. It is actually fun and enjoyable as most patients are really appreciative of NCP staff! They love us and we love them! I hope to stay with NCP until I am no longer physically able! Having worked in several settings, this has been the most rewarding place for me! Thank you NCP! I have lead four other employees your way, and will continue to do so!
