First few years stress was on budget and dated tools used.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Major change since new CEO's 2 years back. Before was low costs but very well known coworkers. New CEO is pro growth and investment  and high percentage of new employees from Providers to Administration and most other depaertments. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Was arrive and check open tickets and emails and status of backups and new requests. quick breakfast at hospital cafe. work on requests for new access or fixes. 40 minute lunch usually at cafe again for $4-$6 lunch. Afternoon for meetings and more tickets, projects.user calls for assistance. Call vendors if necessary. Leave 8.5 hours after arriving unless schedued for oncall after hours support.  Somefailures with power or network or major systems take much longerto fix for days or weeks. VMware or AT&T were most frequent issues. smaller issues on password resets and printer reliability is unique and fractured support.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Teamwork with those who care about the patients. Good training for high standards of patient care & safety.  Excellent benefits and bonuses for Wellness health care.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When there is not enough time (because of low staff coverage) to show high standards of care because the priorities are for things that bring in the financial resources and the qualifications of the State.  These include time consuming meticulous record keeping in every department and extreme rules and regulations that are almost impossible to keep consistently. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Usually very professional and fast-paced. People usually work together cooperatively and trained well in teamwork and safety.  They take great effort to create comfort for breaks and celebrations and rewarding treats and free meals on special holidays.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always busy yet able to finish what is needed for the day even though exhausted. There was a lot of energy in my department and we usually enjoyed most of our work of the day.

It is important to understand and research where you apply to.   Oak Valley is a community hospital in a semi rural area.  It is very hard to compete with our nearest city of Modesto hospitals.  OV might not bring high wages but it beats other hospitals with its excellent benefits and employees.   They also demonstrate their appreciation by giving pizza, ice cream, cupcakes, etc for the entire hospital.  They celebrate nurses week, hospital week, etc by giving out awesome gifts.  

I have worked at OV for many years and have enjoyed my time here.  I feel my voice is heard by my manager who tries very hard to make changes that benefit us.  My manager is always available for her staff which is greatly noticed.  We are not micromanaged which makes it easier to complete daily duties.  The most enjoyable part of my job are the co-workers that make the day go by fast.  

I believe in having good work ethics.  By doing so, then you have nothing to worry about anywhere you work.  Your work speaks for itself.  I would recommend anyone joining Oak Valley if you are looking to work in a friendly and small hospital.

This hospital is underpaid with poor management. Manager wouldn't help out the nurses when it was crazy busy. Manager was inconsiderate and heartless when I had a family crisis and had to miss work for a while. Also wouldn't want to give me one day off, would schedule me the rest of the days that I didnt go to school no weekends off, and would schedule me when I had school when the information of me going to school was given from the start. I was there only CNA when they said they were going to hire one more but never did. Some of the nurses acted like they couldn't do anything on their own and would get mad if I was busy doing something else. I was hired for a pm shift but then when I started the job they said I would be on day shift which was better for me but the CEO didnt want me on day shift but rather on nights. That was really upsetting & eventually they were going to move me to nights. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone!

Oakdale is a small town, bringing the population together within a growing community. We love to share and help our people here at Oak Valley Hospital District. My experience volunteering here at the Nursing home/ rehabilitation unit is really something I’ll never forget. I meet new people and see what the world is like through there eyes. My main priority is pleasing people. I enjoy the workspace, always being in high demand, and learning new skills. 
Overall, working hard never goes unnoticed here. All the staff clientele including rehabilited persons are never unappreciated. Residents, Nurses, Rnas, Cnas, Lvns , and Activities  get a week of fun spontaneous treats and or events to participate in. I don’t know many towns that show appreciation for a weeks long to there staff. 
I find that this town is really supportive within its community in going l the extra mile.

Great training, staff camaraderie,  great leadership, time off leniency,  working conditions are very admirable for healthcare, company cares about their employees.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes the schedule is very full, but that's to be expected in this type of setting.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very much at ease and others are always willing to lend a hand.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Returning messages, auditing the med room, prepping for vaccinations needed per immunization records, administering vaccinations and answering patient questions, electronic charting, obtaining prior authorization for meds and DME, administering other types of injections per orders, ordering meds, and conducting covid/strep tests.

Short staff, bad managers, horrible schedule, low pay, toxic culture.

The most poorly reviewed (by the employees) hospital in CA!

They post the openings, but never fill them, waste their resources on travelers and temps, and nobody in HR cares.

If you interview here, you better accept the offer, or they will never call you again, which is pretty standard in CA District Hospitals... They do employ many out of state travelers, who are pretty bad...

These folks are in trouble, are poorly regarded, and appear to be swirling near bankruptcy. Many Hospitals this size have been closed, and many are now run by management companies...

I advise you to find another place to work, if possible.

Unfortunately we are short staffed most of the time and rely on travelers to fill in the gaps.  While most of them roll with the flow a few are constantly complaining they are being treated unfairly.  This creates discord among the other staff. This is the hardest part of my job to get the nurses to pull together for the betterment of the patient.

The most enjoyable part of my job is helping new nurses pull the nursing theory together within the actual clinical environment.

I have learned that politics also play a major part in daily activities of the ER. Favoritism occurs frequently and is usually transparent. This also creates discord and friction among staff.

I worked ICU here for about 6 months. While here I was not allowed to leave the hospital for 30 min. breaks due to understaffing issues. They manager was new to the role and did not address our understaffing & lack of real breaks. I would and should have turned this in to the labor board but left instead. Also, the quality of care at this hospital was very low due to old systems of practice and outdated policies. The staff hired there mostly appeared as older nurses looking for a place to make easy money without putting in real work. If you like a lot of down time with very light "ICU" work and low accountability you would love Oak Valley. Low standard of care here!!
