Really enjoyed the culture, people, and overall experience, but the intern program was a pretty blah. There was, however, a pretty large disconnect between the HR Coordinators and the actual supervisors. My supervisor didn't know what to do with me, so I mostly Netflixed or read. This was a commonality among the majority of other interns, who played online games, played put-put, or slept. 

As an extremely personable and motivated go-getter, it was really hard to get work, as the fast-paced agency work environment isn't conducive for an employer to take time and explain the task. I was a student in the Sciences, and didn't know the majority of interns were Business students. They could definitely bolster their opportunities for science-minded individuals. My biggest projects were creating literature for the client and doing a series of phone calls to doctors advertising programs. 

**HOWEVER** If you are looking for a Design/UX internship APPLY HERE. AMAZING people to work with, you grow so much and have a lot of really cool opportunities. I had the honor of working with the Design interns very closely and they got the most out of the experience. 

Further, there was a very cool entirely intern-run project where we raised money for a local charity over the summer, which gives interns a lot to talk about with future employers. 


Overall, Ogilvy is GIGANTIC and WORLD-RENOWNED. Seriously, I think 'Mad Men' mentioned the company like 4 times in the series. It expands to every discipline and is really worth an application. Even if the intern program isn't all that fabulous, the "name brand" aspect of it is really cool, and a great spring board for future employment.

The name Ogilvy reads great on your resume and is definitely something you can brag about to friends/family in the business. The downside is that the company knows that--and takes advantage of its employee's as being associated with Ogilvy is a "privilege". The job is 24 hrs a day. You get blamed for everything unless you are a VP. Blame tends to get pushed down to lower positions which-in turn- gets pushed down to lower positions and so on. There are so many middle men that really have no purpose so any change you can bring to the table won't happen for a yr or 2 because it has to get funneled through all the middlemen. The middlemen usually end up claiming your ides as their own if the idea is liked.

Their client list is GREAT! However their programs might as well be marketing programs created in the 50's. Not innovative in any way. Their solution to all their tech problem is to "clear your cache's."

Coworkers try to make other coworkers look bad in order to make themselves look better.

Overall a very unhealthy workplace. If you are truly passionate about marketing programs- go elsewhere as their programs are "safe" and boring.

Great company great office and you're doing great work. You see your efforts pay off in the campaigns and seeing the advertisements out in the world outside of work. I definitely felt fulfilled and it felt good working for the top advertising agency in the world.

But at times I couldn't believe how not put together the company is overall. I think it has to do more with the scale of the parent company WPP. And it pulling all the agencies in a different direction instead of together in unison. 

Often the overall direction of the project we were working on would switch Paces and it felt like everybody was on a different level of urgency because information had either not been communicated or people weren't really aligned on the overall goal. I understand it's a fast paced environment and things change but then a proper communication channel should be set up.

It was also hard to get proper support from other teams and use the resources of the entire agency because people either felt Like that's not my job or they were too busy to help out. I think if the agency took more of an effort to unify everybody It would benefit everybody. Especially from the parent company who just needs to be more transparent honestly.

I averaged 50% overtime (20 hours a week) either with all-nighters or weekends at Ogilvy. It seemed to me that the highest-level creatives would not pull the trigger on an idea until the end of "their day" then left everyone else to polish it until it was presentable the next day. If they would have stuck to the second or third idea (almost always the same as the final idea) we could have saved a lot of hours. 

I knew this going in and insisted on two things. 1) I got paid hourly, and  2) 4 weeks off for vacation. I got two weeks vacation and two weeks un-paid leave, which was great. I should have asked for more money, but it likely would not have been worth all the time I gave up from my personal life.  

The ad industry is tough. I would pick another industry if you can, if you are in college, do something else - anything else. It's not Mad Men :-)  

But saying that the culture at Ogilvy is THE BEST in the ad world.  I did a lot of freelance work in all the major agencies and several smaller ones and Ogilvy does give the most to their employees, and the long hours does bond people together. But all said and done, it was not worth my effort.

A typical work day includes my leaving for my assignment, fully equipped to do the work I've been assigned. I arrive on time, meet the store management and inform them of the purpose of my visit. 

I locate the person doing the sampling of the featured product, observe several things about how the booth is set up, review the key points the sampler has been assigned to include in their "pitch" before casually walking up to interact with the person. While I'm standing there, I note the amount to effort they put forth to make eye contact and greet the passers-by, to try and get them to stop and sample  the product.

I stay a few extra moments to make sure I've heard the major points from the sampler with at least 2-3 passers-by before I leave for my car and record my observations.  I then hurry on to my next assignment. On my very best days--Saturdays, usually, I've been able to fulfill the tasks that were assigned me in 8-9 stores.

Any day I've worked for Ogilvy Action has been a fun and fulfilling day!.

Everyday, I ran open payable reports for all my clients through DDS. I then had to match the buy in DDS with the invoices in Aspen, billing report and insertion order in prisma. If there wasany discrepancy in the matches, I would email and contact with the media teams to update each document. I had to schedule meetings and do light administrative work such as printing,copying and screening. My co workers were great but the load of work was too much for one person to handle. the hardest part of the job is to approve hundreds and hundreds of invoices which is very difficult becuase there are so many discrepant invoices that it becomes hard to approve many invoices in a day and then it overloads. Instead of making a newcomer like me feel comfortable with the job, the boss would instead discourage me and would make remarks which made my effort and hardwork seem worthless. I had a terrible boss. The most enjoyable part is the culture at Ogilvy. Everybody is nice and helpful, the environment was casual and not very stern. The best part is that we could dress up in casuals.

A typical day is 16 hours (Not kidding), and I learned not to trust Ogilvy NY HR as they promote dysfunction and cover up for bad behavior among cliques. Management has a group of people they protect, and then everyone else is mistreated and gaslit into thinking they are doing things wrong. The workplace culture is fun and welcoming for the first few months, but then unrealistic work expectations start, boundaries are overstepped, and mental/ emotional abuse starts. The hardest part of the job is the egregious violations of abuse and discrimination. There are no raises or promotions for anyone... ever. Look at current and former employees and you will notice, that they only hold one role before moving on to another company or maintaining that same role and title for several years. The most enjoyable part of the job is some of the people you will encounter in day-to-day work. Creatives and Strategy are always innovative and friendly. WPP should perform extended investigations into HR and any employee complaints about mistreatment.

During the course of each day, I set up breakfast platters for the office and took coffee orders for clients, which was later followed by lunch orders and a catering selection. If clients were staying late, they had the option of ordering dinner. It was my responsibility to meet client requests, anything from calling a car service to retrieving their favorite wine.
This job helped me learn how to create and manage a budget, as there were certain restraints I had to work within when making decisions. It was also a great experience in working independently. There was minimal supervision and I could start my own projects to better improve the office. This included changing the style of the break room.
The entire staff was friendly and supportive of each other. There was definitely a sense of camaraderie. It could sometimes be difficult to anticipate the needs of each client, but it was wonderful to always meet new people and be of assistance to them.

As an independent contractor, I worked for the 'Client Finance' department of Ogilvy & Mather for 9 months. Outsourcing had taken its toll on people in more ways than one, as I saw employees leaving left and right. Their responsibilities were being sent overseas to a contract company whose diligence was, for lack of a better term, lacking in many key areas. I was brought along to help point out and rectify any and all professional 'misunderstandings' in regards to what was expected of the outsourced personnel.

I was able to learn a lot from my supervisors and co-workers, and am very sad that my time at Ogilvy had to be cut short. With any luck, my next place of employment will be as educational and friendly, with the added incentive of aiding my professional growth through a strong sense of job security.

As an Intern at OCHWW, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn as much as I could at the company; the "uncommon" culture at OCHWW created a dynamic atmosphere that was fun and exciting. I was able to sit in on creative client meetings, learn about the process of a job, and generally I was able to learn about how the flow of an agency works. My coworkers were helpful and interested in making my time at the company as an intern be as productive as possible. 
The company's culture also played a role in my experience: Fun activities for the employees heightened the work stamina and atmosphere and a summer-long intern group campaign assignment exposed the interns to the daily tasks and flow of a job, in a creative manner.
My overall internship experience was great.
