I worked for parkvista for 8 yrs form 2007-2015 I work on nursing 2 I loved my coworkers they were and still is like family to me, I loved my residence and even some of the family members, But management  is another story I basically had no choice but to resign from my position after being threaten to get fired all because I couldn't get in contact with the nurse that treated me at the emergency room when I had to leave work early because of pink eye, I spent three days off of work due to pink eye and on the third day I called whoever was on call that and told her both my eyes were still pink and if I came into work would they send me home, she said more than likely I would be so I called off that day to the day I came back to work I was called to the office and told that the extra day I took off would count against me and i would probably be fired after explaining everything to them they told me that I had until the end of my sift which was less then two hours away to get in contact with the doctor that treated me at the hospital confirming that extra day I took off, I spent the rest of my sift calling the hospital crying asking for the doctor that treated me in the ER only to find out she was on vacation and did not know when she was coming back. At the end of my shift I let management know what happened and they told be there was a good chance I would be fired for it but they wouldn't know until the administrator came back form vacation that week then on top of that as they was telling me this the scheduler comes in and tells me I'm mandated needless to say I did not stay for the mandate because I was not working and extra shift if they just plan on firing me ,so I resign because I didn't want a termination on my work record I had to leave a pass where I started as a kid and left as a adult not just in age but in maturity and a good work ethic I miss my floor dearly and never did I think parkvista would  hurt me like that, it's been almost two years sense I've resigned and I've put in a couple of applications to try to get back in but I still get denied and I wasn't even fired

Over the past couple of years at Ohio Living Lake Vista, leadership at the community has shifted their focus by putting employees first, and they have developed this by building a solid foundation based off trust, loyalty, and integrity.  Leadership here is just as interested in how their business develops its people and how it contributes to society as they are in the quality of care they provide and profits. The leadership is strategic, inspirational, visionary, and most importantly, personable.

It’s not just management pushing for career development as it is definitely a two-way street as employees are encouraged to guide their own career. I know for a fact that employees have approached leadership about training and/or certifications that they were interested in and Ohio Living Lake Vista management made that investment in my coworkers, all they had to do was ask. 

In addition to these great advancements at Ohio Living Lake Vista we also have the ability to flex our schedules within reason which helps us enhance our work/life balance and I am still aware of what is expected of me. I also receive more frequent and honest feedback, as well as I am consistently recognized for a job well done. 

Ohio Living Lake Vista positively impacts the outside community with the care and services we provide, and it is great to come to work with people every day that have an insatiable desire for making a difference. 
All these great things I mentioned are not just my imagination, as we have the outcomes to show that Ohio Living Lake Vista is one of the best retirement communities to live and work at, not just in Ohio, but in the entire nation!

Ohio Living seems to be able to attract and retain very mission-oriented, competent and caring  staff who wish to make a difference in their roles and in the lives of other employees and the patients, clients and resident customers served.  Like any workplace, there are the natural stressors, but there is great listening, affirmation and desire to improve each day!  The words I hear fellow employees use to describe this culture: "compassionate", "ethical", "positive reputation", "quality", "mission", "person-centered", "forward-thinking" and "community". The behaviors I've seen demonstrated at work: "integrity", "innovation", "leadership", "respect", "teamwork",      "accountability", "truthfulness", "generosity", "caring" and "empathy".  

The place I worked before this I thought was terrific and I was anxious about leaving there, but came here because it was closer to where I lived.  By FAR,  coming here was the best professional decision I have ever made.  And I'm not alone.

There are many different departments here, IT, fundraising, clinical, communications, HR, operations, finance, etc.  We do many things as one big group like our summer picnic, holiday party, chili-cook-offs, themed events, etc. and monthly we come together for a town meeting where our officers share what is going on in the company and all of us get to share personal and professional information and ask the questions important to us.

The pay and benefits are VERY competitive.  I see a lot of longevity...some people are hired and stay happy in one role for a long time...some people want to grow and get promoted.  (Happened twice to me.). I want joy at work and there is much of that here.  

At the recent town meeting our employee opinion survey results were shared,and system-wide, there is great employee satisfaction scores.  I wouldn't listen to the disgruntled employees who leave (or were asked to leave) who let it rip on these kinds of sites, but rather those of us who have worked in other places and hope to stay here for a long time.

Fan for life!

I worked in the culinary department. I absolutely loved all the residents and quickly learned the position is was hired to do. Most of all a quickly fell in love with the residents there. About 2 weeks after I started there a new girl was hired. Working in small teams made this transition very difficult because for some unknown reason this new hire decided she didn’t like me was going to be rude to me constantly and refuse to answer anything I asked her. I would be treated horribly by this other staff member every shift. When I brought my concerns to the manager she said it was a “she said, she said” situation and there was nothing they could do about it. Management did finally agree to put us in separate shifts but still gave her the liberty to change to my shift if she wanted to. Both managers made excuses for her that she was an only child or it was her first job so she didn’t know how to act properly at work. My last shift there this staff member, who again switched to my shift, came at me physically and I put my hands up in defense. She immediately yelled that I pushed her and taunted me that I would be in trouble now. Maybe I did push her? I certainly wasn’t trying to. I am the most non confrontational person which is probably why I had to deal with this bullying for so long. It was hard to know for sure if I pushed her since she was clearly in my personal space. Long story short, I was terminated, so was she, but she should have been not me. When I met with HR, they wouldn’t even hear my side of the story. They said they have a zero tolerance policy. What a joke, if that was the case I would have had to deal with this daily torment from this employee. I was looking for Ohio living facilities to work where I will be attending college next year, pre-med. very disappointed. The management and HR failed me.

I love working for OPRS because of what we do...we serve older adults so they can live wonderful, fulfilling lives. While I am not in a position where I get to interact with our residents and clients daily, I know that the hard work I do in the corporate office serves our employees which then serves our residents and clients so they can get the best care possible. 

We are a faith-based, non-profit organization that has been in business since 1922. Not many companies out there that have 90+ years under their belt and are still going strong.

I worked at park vista for almost 2 years and was treated unbelievably unfair. I was written up for dress code after they didn’t even give me a uniform until months into the job even though I wasn’t the only person breaking it. I also was written up for my laptop being out when other people had kindles/laptops out as well but they didn’t even get a warning. The boss simply hated me because I was honest about how things were at the desk and she would rather have someone be her “yes man”. I called off maybe 4 times the entire time I worked and was always asking for hours and willing to come in, although, once new employees were hired who primarily took over hours I had asked for I knew it was a game of who is the biggest brown nosed and not who does their job. I asked for benefits because I was 2 hours short of getting them and wasn’t given the extra two hours. An on call girl was hired to help out and managed to end up with more hours than me. Also was given poor evaluations based on how the boss didn’t like me more less than how my actual job performance was. Residents even noticed this unfair behavior. Once I gave my two week notice it took my boss a week to even get back to me while in the mean time she was sending emails throughout the building as well as posting the new schedule without me on it. VERY immature and rude considering MANY people told me not to even give her a notice. Very disappointed with how I was treated and soon enough the others will realize how disposable our boss truly thinks we are.

I worked in the Culinary Department before and throughout the start of COVID. I enjoyed my job, it wasn’t too tasking; just a lot to do in a short amount of time. If coworkers were slacking, you often had to say something to them or pick up the slack. I always felt very comfortable expressing how I felt to management, or pic. If you don’t like the position you’re working, they will do what they can to help you in to a more comfortable position. Once COVID was in our facility, it was much more stressful.. along with staff shortages we often were 1-2 people down. It got to where I couldn’t handle it anymore with schooling and work, so I had to leave. They often had me working 5-6 day/night a week, as part time (some of which I did volunteer to come in for, but most of time I was already working). One of the most frustrating things was, if you had a day off you almost always had 2-3 people texting you to cover their shift. But, they have free lunches, and really nice facilities. They always do staff appreciation, whether it’s food, ice cream, or celebrating holidays together. I’ve definitely made a lot of really good friends while working there, and learned a lot of valuable skills. Plus, working with the residents is always amazing. Hearing their stories are always interesting! 

OPRS was once a respectful company and I was more than proud to work there. Over the years key positions at the corporate level has experienced turnover which has resulted in the downfall of all the OPRS communities. The corporate HR department has suffered greatly and poor decisions and hiring at the local levels have resulted in strained untrusting relationships between facilty managers and HR. 
While there are some fun and worthwhile incentives like the Virgin Health Miles program and tuition reimbursement and free lunches, this hardly makes up for the daily stress, unfair and improper treatment of loyal employee by the HR dept.  and lack of support at corporate level.
The safety and care of the residents has suffered because of this as well. The coworkers were wonderful and work as a team to be successful but their efforts often went unrecognized. While budget issues are everywhere sometimes you need to take a close look at what you have at a corporate level and make cuts there as opposed to the facility level and cutting staff that is taking care of the residents. OPRS has lost focus it's not about the mission or the residents anymore.

This role started with promise but quickly became overwhelming due to insufficient training and support. I was placed into a complex position managing billing, Medicaid, and resident finances with minimal guidance. Training opportunities were limited, and requests for one-on-one help were often ignored or delayed. At times I was expected to cover the workload of multiple roles, which was unrealistic and unsustainable due to the lack of training.

The most concerning part was being responsible for residents’ finances without receiving proper preparation, which created a stressful and difficult work environment. While I enjoyed working with residents and some supportive coworkers, management seemed disconnected and slow to address staff needs. Turnover was high, and positions often stayed open for long periods. Overall, I cannot recommend this role for someone seeking stability or thorough training. I left this role in April 2025, another person was hired briefly but lasted less than a month, and now it’s almost October and remains unfilled. You can connect the dots.

When I accepted the position at Llanfair I was asked to "bring them into the 20th century" which I did. I was only the second DON in their history. So was difficult at first with new ideas. But persevered and encouraged dialogue, we worked hard but also had fun. I too worked the floor in a pinch, something no one expected, so was good. Then the Executive Director that hired me stepped down and a new one took his place, no one could work with her,was very stressful. I enjoyed working for such a large supportive corporate company. There was always a resource person available. I learned to be very self reliant, that I can do anything that is asked of me. I worked with very talented nurses, some are still there and I see them when I am in the facility to admit to the program I now work with, hospice.
