If I were to write a review at the time I was leaving, it would not have been how I feel now, especially working for another smaller organization. When I left, I had typical burnout. Things felt very repetitive and every job has other team members that you just don't work well with. Now that I had went to another organization, hoping for different things and achieving a less desirable outcome, I can see that Ohio's Hospice is NOT a bad employer. In fact, I miss them for many reasons. They are to date, one of the most structured organizations I have worked for in health care. I did full time and then stepped down to PRN for convenience and a VERY substantial pay raise. You are guaranteed the hours on the shift you want so there is alot of flexibility. HR is AMAZING! When my dad died and I had to take off, not only did my boss send me a beautiful memorial plaque in remembrance of him, but I also got a card and I filed for emergency assistance die to missing a brief period of time and with ease, Ohio's Hospice helped with my mortgage ans I requested only half of my electric to be paid, but they took it upon themselves to wipe the full balance, which was a genuine surprise! The workload was always reasonable. Some shifts I had 3 patients, some shifts I had 8 but I never recall exceeding 10. You will have your typical clique experiences, but I know now that it is MINISCULE compared to other employers.  All in all, it is a great place for growth and having an inpatient unit keeps you humble! It was easy to utilize all my break and lunch times when I desired but DO make sure you step off the unit and you will not be bothered. If you have lunch in your unit, they can still call you. It's almost like you've made a voluntary decision to help if needed, but we all know that sometimes we just need to breathe.

I was incredibly excited to work for this company and start this job and enjoyed learning everything that I did during my time. The people are great, everybody loves IT! but the IT Manager is a micro manager that uses fear to run the department. My first day, the IT team had to give me a pep talk on how to talk and survive the manager. The current manager can play a cool game but is very set in their ways. I think being close to retirement plays a factor. Talks down and is very condescending. Ends every sentence with "Hope that helps". Defenses go up if you ask any questions that they can't understand why you are asking. Words may come out that are nice but tone, body language and actions do not match.  Think before asking the team for any advice past week 3. Apparently it comes off as incompetence. The role is underpaid for what it is with yearly raises only equating to under a dollar. Coming from a 10 yr consumer electronic background, I was very excited to take this next step but only 2 months in, I found myself needing to escape the toxicity that is the IT manager. I started to believe their assumptions and hearing "your 90 day is coming up and it's up to you if you stay" was not encouraging either. I pride myself on my introspection, attention to detail and always work to get better and this was not a lack of that. Rather, nobody you can trust. And apparently there is a history of it, starting when this manager did. It's funny, during my interview I spoke highly of accountability because of its ability to become constructive, and they loved it, yet the current manager couldn't spot accountability if it was pink giraffe. Anyways, "Hope this helps" and good luck! Hoping they see this and actually become better to the next hire. Noone deserves to feel how I did.

I could not believe my short lived experience with Hospice. Very poor management. They will find some ridiculous reason to let you go at any time. I was let go for something that had nothing to do with my performance, but rather the fact that I did not "fit" in with the culture of Hospice. There was no opportunity for an improvement plan or helpful discussion. Come to find out, they hired back the person who was previously in my position. It seemed sneaky. I was told by a supervisor during my first week that she "does not know why I was hired" and that I would "not succeed" at this job. It was the most disrespected I have every felt in a professional environment. They truly live by the Ohio "employment at will" law, and will drop you on a dime. This is a place that allows their new employees to be disrespected and treated as less than. I heard so much gossip among the various teams, much of it directed toward the inadequacies of new employees. Many staff are amazing and wonderful, while others seem to think that if you don't have prior hospice experience, you can not do the job. I preformed just fine, was passionate about the work. I was told that I was excelling as a new employee one week, and was let go the next. I would not recommend working here.

Decent company with knowledgeable physicians, and team leaders. RNCM’s have lots of charting/IDT meetings

When there is a lack of communication or too many changes in a short period of time

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is good , you have the tools you need to get the job done. Caring culture for the most part

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy. Lots of interruptions at times, driving to visits either in the home or nursing facility, charting, calling in prescriptions, phone calls to families and doctors. Collaborating with other team members concerning the patient and POC.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping patients and family work through the end of life journey 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor communication from administration. Failure to hire for positions from those who quit/retire, which increased workload for current staff. 
Constant issues with ipad technology.
Employees not being held accountable for lacking in their job expectations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very low moral and high stress. Concerns and complaints about don't get fixed. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Often many long hours catching up on documentation,  that cuts in to personal/family time.

Company underpays employees for what they require from the employees. I was lied to in my interview about what I would be doing once I got the job. Once I started the position I was doing something different from what I was told. Management and Directors are poor in knowledge of their teams daily duties, they are messy, petty and have micromanagement mentalities, they have pointless meetings sometimes multiple times a day, they write you up for expressing your opinion, you're not aloud to not smile in meetings, you must always be happy, your camera must always be on when in meetings even if you're having a  bad day, the managers curse in meetings and talk about alcohol, the list goes on.

Salaried position for 40 hours with no comp for many hours worked over this
No understanding for drive times, patient/family acuity— everyone is a number- 
Expected to answer emails, text msg, TEAMS, or phone calls while driving or in between appointments or during visits.
Patients over  hour apart at times

Used to be a wonderful place to work 

Many long time workers leaving due to new poor management 
Feels like For-Profit not non-profit 

Many changes to team members with no concern for patients 

Great orientation as a new employee. Ohio's Hospice has a great team of personnel that are engaging and supportive in the orientation process. Once in the field, the impression of the families that I served were appreciative of the care Ohio's Hospice provided. My co-workers and manager were supportive and encouraging with any questions I had in while in the field. We provided compassionate care and support to our patients and families, in their homes, in hospitals, and in extended care and assisted living facilities. Ohio's Hospice is a wonderful organization to be a part of.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Pay is decent, but they just revamped benefits and increased rates on insurance, took away PTO. In some cases by half of the previous PTO. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They treat salaried employees as hourly, load the work on so that you are never just putting in 8 hours. Major amounts of gossip and back stabbing. Constant change. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Profess to be a culture of kindness, but lots fear and lack of feeling any level of support. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Non stop, struggle to get everything done.

Any place will have its share of annoyances and disappointments.  It's up to me to put those into context:  why am I here?  I've chosen to not interpret these annoyances as personal; rather I try every day to focus on the real reason:  the patient and the family.  There are no do-overs in hospice. We have to get it right; and it's NOT about us.

Whenever I've shared my frustrations with my boss, I'm always heard.  I know they can't read my mind, so I have the responsibility to let them know: candid and respectful feedback.

Most days--nearly all days-- I feel blessed to work here knowing that it's purposeful and meaningful work.
