Most people that go to work for the Oklahoma Health Care Authority make this a career its not just a job and there is not a large turnover rate. I would say the average person that I worked with in my unit has worked for the agency 10 plus years. Management is easy to work with and have an open door policy. The unit I worked in involved a lot of policy and rules so anyone coming in as a new employee are in for a rude awakening. If they think the job is easy and they will learn it in a matter of days or weeks. It takes a month or two to fully understand the job, even with training you never know everything there is to know about the position. Its so much that goes into a days work. So much time is spent with co-workers, they become friends and like your family.

The Oklahoma Healthcare Authority is not your typical government job stereotypically hindered by red-tape and bureaucracy.  The majority of people working at OHCA have a strong identity and purpose and are glad to be there.  It's a culture with a vast range of employees from insurance claims to nurses, to dentists and member services and reporting.  Pay is pretty decent, especially for state government and it has a good work-life balance.

I started as a temporary worker, then I became permanent after 3 years. It was a pretty laid back  place when I first started but then there was some changes in management and within the agency that I don't agree with. Managers have favorites and there are chances of advancement if you are one of their favorites.

Stayed busy everyday sometimes we were short handed with inbound calls and faxes . My supervisor helped me meet my goal. Location was easy to get in and out of..parking was ok. Great benefits and hours with closure on all holidays and bad weather. We were able to work from home for a little while which was a plus. Overall its a good place.

It's a great paying job however there is very little support especially for the night crew. They for very easily over anything. Even if it is a misunderstanding you have no resources/support to turn to. Your supervisor doesn't know you on any sort of personal level and every one is expendable sometimes for no substantial reason at all. 

Definitely depends on which department you work in. My team collaborates well, and there’s a strong culture of support and appreciation for employees. Leadership seems to value staff contributions, and there are efforts to create a positive workplace. The only downside is the pay. If compensation were more competitive, it would be an unbeatable place to work.

Senior management does a bad job of making sure employees have the most current information and blame employees for not doing job correctly when they have information that is not correct. CYA is required if you want to continue working there.

The OHCA is a great place to work, its a team environment where everyone worked together to accomplish a goal in helping members and providers with claims payments, eligibility issues and other health care issues. I enjoyed working at OHCA because it was my family away from home

Important work regarding Medicaid consumers, providers, and the proper application and enforcement of ever changing rules, law and policy governing the complex landscape of healthcare.
