Overnight shift is usually the best shift to work. It is more structured and there is better communication. Other shifts come with their challenges, due to poor management and lack of support. 

There are some coworkers that mean well and are knowledgeable when training new staff. But there are also coworkers that are favorites and get away with things they are not supposed to, creating a hostile work environment. I worked a shift one day where an upper MHT left me for half the shift alone, because they were meeting up with another MHT they were friends with. The expectation is to show up on time and to provide the best care possible for the patients. However, there is a reason for the high turn over rates.

Administration tried to sway in orientation that they are looking to get rid of people that are not doing their jobs, to create a better work environment. There has yet to be improvement in showing that, as it appears that Admin still have their own agenda.

It is not uncommon for one MHT and one nurse to be on a unit taking care of up to 20 or more patients. There are times the Nursing Supervisor or upper management will scold someone for refusing to overwork or declining to pick up a shift. They started implementing deducting time off for call outs to reduce the issue in people calling out. But they have yet to tackle issues in coworkers not showing up on time, harrassment, and keeping consistent structures for all workers and all units. They keep outdated calendars on the units, leaving patients and MHT's confused as to when a group therapy will start and other structures that are vital to treatment. 

Great experience in working with a range of diagnoses, and the pay was decent. However, they keep everyone in a low bracket and are not as generous about giving raises. It was good that there was opportunity for overtime. 





Working in mental health and hospital settings is already extremely taxing and stressful, but this place does not work to alleviate the stress. You will have consistently unrealistic expectations. You will often be expected to watch 16 or more patients by yourself while getting them things they need, checking in/out belongings, cleaning, answering phones, assisting the nurses, and maintaining 7 to 15-minute rounds (To name just a few duties you will be assigned). There is NO consistency across shifts, so you must deal with (arguably justified) disgruntled and difficult patients. Often, management will tell you one thing and then do the exact opposite: give patients what they want to make them stop acting out or complaining. This causes issues because it makes the staff look incompetent and creates issues about what the rules are or are not. Also, good luck getting a manager when you really need help. They are constantly stretched thin with multiple tasks and cannot help staff the way they need. I worked here for less than 5 years and, say, a revolving door of management, staff, and CNOs. They cannot keep anyone because of the toxic environment. The only semi-consistent staff is in the HR/dietary departments; the environment is constantly unsafe due to the patients they admit and put together.  Patients do not get the care they need because they lack staff and resources. Too many times, I have seen patients kicked out the door without the help they needed, and they often come right back. They are also very quick to blame staff if things go poorly. I did not listen to the reviews before applying chalking it up to disgruntled staff. If you choose to work here you are a strong individual. Good Luck 

Working at Old Vineyard can be very stressful, and is definitely not for everyone. On a day where everything is how it's supposed to be, I loved my job. Being able to work with patients, see their improvement, and taking a part in their recovery can be very rewarding. I wish I could say every day was like that, but it's usually not and it's usually the fault of the upper management. Depending on the shift you work, you will almost always have to deal with short-staffing, and as of late, understaffing. I don't know if people are not applying to work here, if prospective employees are rejecting the (honestly) low pay they are offered, or if upper management is purposely not hiring people to save on labor costs. But it is frustrating to be the only mental health tech on the floor, and also only having one nurse to help. In some cases, there are no techs and a nurse has to act as one. 

The policy here is to have no empty beds, empty beds means no money! This means sometimes you will have patients on a unit that obviously don't belong and trigger all of the other patients and cause a general ruckus. Which normally wouldn't be too big of an issue if there was staffing to help manage the units, oops! 

I personally have not had any issues with HR, but I have heard some pretty terrible stories on how they have treated some employees. I don't think very many people are evil, but I'm starting to think the HR director is.

Job requires a bachelor degree and/or years of experience but you can make more working for Amazon or Target with a high school degree.

I spent an entire year and four months working for this establishment. Training here is a joke. It takes roughly a week to train and prepare recruits. When you start working here; you are told to do your rounds every 7 to 15 minutes depending on the patient. However, you may have to place the board down to handle stressful situations. This job is nothing more than a glorified bouncer. The only people who make it in this environment are people who have previously lived in the projects or were exposed to worse situations. I have been involved in four physical altercations in which the shift supervisor stood around doing nothing or even asking if the staff was okay. My advice to anyone applying for this position is to go PRN (Per Request Needed) or part-time and never answer the phone when they call you. Stick to your shift and only your shift. Also, make sure to have a second job because they pick favorites and threaten to fire you consistently. Paid Time Off, you can forget it! They mysteriously lose your paperwork and make it seem like time off is a burden. So, therefore you have to call out back to back just to rest and recharge your mind. I made it work for me because I had a goal in mind and stuck to it. I used this job to save up money and purchase my second property in downtown Winston so make sure you have a plan. I beg you, make the money, and don't let it make you. Tootles!

I loved working there for the reason of being my own boss during the night and it was always peaceful , helped a lot of families even gained of respect an friends working in that environment .

But on the real side of it : The current manager for the Kitchen is absolutely a 1000 % Rude ,disrespectful , lazy ,vindictive , puts her work on others "me" speaking for myself..!

Was fine when I 1st started working there putting up a front I've seen and experienced her doing it too countless employees ..
I worked there for over 6 months and have seen 5 people quit on the drop of a dime.."ridiculous" .
Besides "Her" the Manager of the kitchen.. The cooks which by the way are grumpy women , gossip about other staff in the kitchen and facility , always following other staff around the building when they should be doing there jobs.. They can be rude as well then kind later "fake"..

If your a female and you think of working here for dietary aide.."RUN" !!!! they cant stand females..

as a show of favoritism : I was compensated $9.25 hr ,a guy whose been there more than 3 yrs $9 hr .A new female or male whom she favors at the time..$10 ,$10.50 ,$11 hr ...

Human resources doesnt care about your feelings nor do they even do anything about it..

If you want to work for a company that has very strong cliques and are constantly disrespected and micromanaged by your coworkers that are your "Old Vineyard Family" then this is the place for you. I only been here for a few months and as soon as i started working here. One of the nurses commented and stated "Oh. Here come the next victims." And how right he was. Every since i started working here i have constantly been insulted and talked about behind my back by staff members that are supposed to support me. If you work here then you will be doing the job of 3 people and if something goes wrong then you will be the scapegoat for it. You WILL be on the floor by yourself with 14 to 18 patients and are expected to just "Go along with it" without receiving any help unless something goes wrong. And a break? What's that? Breaks does not exist here and good luck getting one of the arrogant nurses to get you to help out on your board. I love the handful of techs and nurses that actually were nice to me but they are far and few in-between. My advice? Don't even apply because they will hire anyone. Just run. Don't even put yourself through this hel* that they call a "Fulfilling job". I'm not even going to get into the aspect where they harass you to work overtime beyond your scheduled shift because they are always "Understaffed"

I worked for a year as a mental health tech. You will consistently be expected to care of approximately 16-18 patients with just you and one nurse. Don't get too comfortable with any particular unit either, because they will float you and fire you if you refuse. Only ever worked with teens? Well now you're getting floated to the adult detox unit. They also mix patient populations, which for the record putting someone who is on assault precautions on a unit with a domestic violence victim is a BAD IDEA.

You will get zero support. Management only cares about dollar signs and you are disposable. They make sure you know this too, operating on fear of job loss rather than encouragement to succeed. They have their favorites however who can get away with anything. I watched tech threaten a patient in front of the supervisor once, and the supervisor laughed.

They also do not emphasize just how dangerous the job can be. You will be punched, thrown, kicked, bit, etc. You can, and most likely will, get hurt.

Just don't work here. Don't support their horrible practice, don't sacrifice your own mental health for a paycheck, just don't do it.

It wouldn't be a bad place to work if it were properly staffed, but they purposely cut every corner imaginable to maximize profits. You're unable to do what you need to do to properly treat the patients and give them the support and attention they need, which is incredibly frustrating for someone who truly has a desire to help people. As a tech, you're basically doing three jobs at once, and it's just not possible to do them as well as you'd like. There should be three techs on each unit. Not one or two. The care the patients receive is very subpar as a result. In addition, there's a few techs and nurses who love the authority too much and treat the patients more like prisoners, rather than patients in need of medical care. That made me absolutely sick, but due to my position as a tech there wasn't much I could do except to try my best in my role.

On the positive side:
-A small majority of teammates were good at their job, cared about the patients, and were easy to work with.
-Benefits were excellent.
-Free food for 1st and 2nd shift.
-HR was professional and responsive.

Things change from day to day! The department I work in the managers are very Caty and Childish often times Goofy acting and Immature as they were younger then many of the employees they so-called Managed! You could never ever get a Holiday off and would cancel your vacation request so that they could take theirs! Employees are over worked and under payed and never given any work incentives or  even told that they are appreciated! Here you are strictly a number that’s all , a spot filler doesn’t matter if you can do the job or not!  They should offer etiquette and management classes because many people in “ lead “ positions have no idea of how to actually “lead”! Especially by example! The gossip and undermining of staff is insane!  My time here was strictly fueled by the love for the patients, many were appreciative and let you know they were thankful for your service! It can be a good place to work” however” the recent candidates that have been chosen for employment just don’t cut it! It’s like the patients run this place!

This place could be a wonderful facility if they got rid of current human resources who talk down to you and treat even professionals as if they are less than human. Human Resources was so unprofessional that I had to choose another facility. I thought about going to corporate but realized that this lady had already caused enough stress in my life for someone just wanting to work and make a difference. I've never seen someone who worked in human resources talk down to a licensed professional like that before. If they ever change who is in charge of human resources - JP - I will reconsider working there. When the front door of your facility is guarded by an unprofessional, rude, belittling, unhelpful, representative of human resources you're not going to get quality employees. Professionals do not tolerate being treated like that. Perhaps one day I will go to corporate on this woman to help prevent other great nurses from being turned away by this unprofessional and rude behavior.
