Oncourse Home Solutions

As much as Oncourse Home Solutions (OHS) advertises their brand as data-driven and their internal employee values as SUPER (meaning: successful, unified, progressive, empathetic, reliable), this really is not true in any area of the business as it concerns Finance reporting or IT. At best, they are data-aware with an early 2000s open-source tech stack with almost no data governance available. I really wanted OHS IT and Finance teams to succeed, however, sadly, there is a lack of Cloud and ELT expertise, and C-level executives are resistant to change and oftentimes micromanage their directors and senior managers to control every aspect of infrastructure and development work revolving around Oracle EBS and Snowflake. The culture is very tribal in terms of teams owning their technology and processes, and rarely is their good cross-functional team collaboration and communication during my time spent at OHS.
Lack of understanding around data engineering has made the company less successful with their reporting and analytical platforms and delivering data. As an example, they recently purchased Oracle Active Data Guard for one-way synchronous replication and load of their key operational data from Oracle EBS onto a centralized reporting server VM that to then fed into Snowflake for Analytics. However, despite numerous conversations and pushbacks by me and my colleagues and my team members, there was no POC, and no testing done on this new product in our loading pipelines resulting in downtime and data not being available for several days. In addition to this, senior management was not aware that only about .1% of the data was being ingested daily. The product was purchased for a substantial amount without addressing the needs of all IT teams while only helping the Oracle Support team during off-hours.
Executives, and VPs do not acknowledge any criticism or feedback from other leaders on issues present.
I felt undermined on calls with leadership and none of my recommendations were taken into account. Work-life is a headache due to the unorganized chaos between data governance projects, data expansion projects, security fixes, and Production fixes. Burn-out is common. HR does not support employees but is only subservient to the executives and their wishes. Diversity is also a problem with all the teams being so tribal and very much tuned toward the blue political spectrum as shown by their photos. I felt uncomfortable at times when either there were political discussions or entire teams were speaking in Hindi about issues.
This is not to say everything is negative at OHS. They are having a hiring boom (despite many employees being unhappy and finding other opportunities and an apparent revolving door being present). The building, which includes a cafeteria and gym, is nice and encourages work-life balance if you can manage the long work hours. I wish anyone who joins as a data professional or engineer good luck.


What I like best about Oncourse is the culture.  They have active inclusion and diversity groups that are backed by leadership and partner with local organizations to support their mission.  They have a take your kid to work day with is very well organized and thought out.Monthly town halls with important updates and useful information. I really like all the people I work with, it is a very collaborative environment. The leader I am under really cares about his people and really takes the time to walk around and see how people are doing. 
The company is very fast moving and you really hit the ground running from day 1.  This was stressful at first as it was a lot to take in at once but now I really enjoy it as you never know what the day will bring.   I will say if you like structure and are not able to adjust quickly this likely isn't the place for you.   However if you are flexible and are OK with pivoting frequently I would recommend Oncourse.

A growing company with no agreeable direction. They dedicated to employee betterment and then closed a call center. New leaders are constantly coming into newly created positions that seem redundant and only serve to put too many hands in the cookie jar. Worse is most of the new people come from past jobs where the CEO has worked because they are yes men. The company has been preaching about a new building which really is nice but hope it’ll solve their problems instead of actually sitting down to make adjustments to business strategies and growth. Sups and managers in the call center are the real problem. They refuse to acknowledge their faults and spend more time looking for who to blame instead of learning what they need to know. 

If you've never worked for a service company, who solely operates through service contracts. Get ready to relearn everything you know about running calls. Not to mention their customers are very demanding. The service managers here, I basically learned to avoid. The guy tasked with teaching you the sales system is just plain silly. And will lie to you just for laughs. They have an intense safety policy. Including a guy who's job it is to ride around and popup on techs in the field. But it's not your safety they're concerned about. The main goal is to protect the company from any exposure to liability. There are some positives. The PTO is pretty good. The dispatchers are decent. But overall, if you have other options as I did. Don't choose here.

The coworkers and the fake management in the call center , supervisors and coaches all walk around and talk to each other while calls are flowing in backed up! they are all disrespectful and long hours with not enough people ,turn over rate is extremely high because the call center sucks

Call center. On site no remote

Stressful dealing with backed up calls and unrealistic expectations from supervisors and coaches who do nothing but make the environment worse

Absolutely no work life balance, they claim to want to promote within but you must complete at least 4 interviews for the position you want. Not only that but majoirty of the managers and coaches lack knowledge they should know to improve employees work load and knowledge. Trainers state they don’t actually know the material and can’t get their story straight. 90-120 days on contract to hire without ANY benefits from the company itself to do twice the workload you would somewhere else. Save yourself time and money by taking your talents elsewhere.

Best part was the food honestly the rest was pretty bad

Micro managed and everyone's fake

Pretty laid back to a point but the quality team is constantly on you and its annoying sales over customers all the time

Training was down right bad when you get to the floor its worse

Ugh just too heavy with mangers unnecessary meetings that go no we’re,priorities backwards,way to many people that have no clue how customers need to come first,when there’s a issue the mangers are MIA.We here you and we’re making changes is the motto from mangers look into issues at call center poor and a joke

What is the best part of working at the company?
Basically no sales. Customers had all warranty work to do.

pretty easy going, good bosses

Start your day from home, one job at a time.

Hybrid schedule is definitely a great perk, but management is always changing and unorganized. They don’t pay attention to actual numbers, turnover rate is high due to them letting waves of employees  go when they feel like it (management included). I worked there for 6 months and had 3 different managers and 2 different VPs. 

I do not recommend if you want longevity somewhere and good culture
