One Nevada Credit Union

This place has its moments. The CEO is great. You always see him around. He knows everyone's name. Makes employees feel welcomes. The benefits are some of the best you'll find in Las Vegas. They do take care of employees with benefits. They offer plenty of training to help you learn and advance but advancing from within is tough because the turnover is lower and managers are stagnant and never leave so that leaves those under them stuck in positions and maxed out in salaries. Many of the AVP level and up managers have been there so long they have forgotten how to be a leader and mentor and instead just "manage". Plus so much is expected from them and many wont delegate so they get wrapped up in their own schedules. Then there are some that do not belong at that level whatsoever but they've been there so long and knew the "right people" so they got the position.  There are also two "leaders" who get more of an ego with each title they get and unfortunately are two of the biggest gossips/cancers in the organization and belittle those lower than them any chance they get all over the organization. Everyone hears it and gets defeated when hearing it. But one handles the numbers so she does as she pleases and the other heads branches.  Some additional leadership training would go a long way for all. 

There are some managers that are very good at what they do and are great for employees to look up to and turn to but unfortunately they usually get the short end of the stick and go elsewhere for respect and promotions.

A culture statement was created a few years ago and unfortunately it is no longer accurate. Opportunity to repair it is there. 

Do not expect holiday bonuses, parties or gatherings. No company picnics or events outside of work. They have a yearly company meeting offsite but don't expect so much as even a bottle of water when attending no matter what kind of monthly income records they set. 

There is potential for a semi annual bonus if certain goals are made  

This company is very successful and has the potential to cleanup some things and truly be the best in Nevada.  They just have to want to listen and not turn a blind eye to the leadership issues or the culture that is deteriorating. 

If you are strong-willed, have a great personality and looking for that true banker's hour job, this place could work for you.

Ready to be talked to like a child no matter HOW old you are?  **note: To the rest of the company, try LETTING your IT Department DO THEIR JOB!** 
Welcome to One Nevada, where you too can be talked down to by the painfully stupid and obnoxious.  Where the unreasonable career harpies of this distasteful, unpleasant, unethical, micro-managing, on top of being BOTH Touchy-feely AND Vindictive banking institution will insult and offer daily inane observations without prompt. 
..... And those are just the nice things I could think of.   
First off, DON'T believe what you're told; from directors on up.  They'll promise the sun and the stars, then quietly and quickly change their story behind closed doors.  Followed by looking for someone ELSE to blame for their own failings.  
Second, let me say this LOUD and CLEAR:  DO NOT "make friends" with your manager(s), keep your work and private life FAR apart in this company..... vindictive backstabbing management is rampant.  
Pro-Tip: Heaven help you though, if you don't adhere to the latest VP's whim.  
You can also expect to be force-feed company rhetoric and a massive dose of management's personal opinions on anything they can think of to whine about. (and yes... they whine & threaten A LOT!)  
Here's another major failing... IF your job description is EXACTLY to your liking the day you START, excellent and good for you!... OTHERWISE, never believe anything you hear about changes or additions to your title or duties.  Don't agree with unwanted changes?  Too bad, hit the road!
Unless.... you're willing and able to kiss upper management's *ss for years on end, on a regular basis, AND you can keep up the facade of a shiny-happy person every second you're there, AND happen to come equipped with a pocket miracle to solve whatever imaginary crisis they just dreamed up.   Expect to have completely unreasonable, sometimes unethical, usually pointless *by their own admission*, demands rain on you.  
I'll part with my 2 favorite quotes about their customer facing division... (neither are mine)

Typcial day at work is pretty laid back. I come in an login to the auto loan queue. I call on accounts that are typically 5-30 days past due and inquire on when they will be making their auto payment. If myself and co-workers happen to finish that queue before our shift is over, we also call on advancepays and overdrawn accounts. In this position, I have learned a great deal on how loans work, interest rates, and  about home mortages. In my department at the corporate office, there are only about 4-5 part time employees I work with. I have one manager, who works side by side with us on our shift. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to work with others, and help others in regards to what ever type of account they may have at the credit union. I love that the position is more of a customer service based job, rather than cold calling or third party collections.

Fair job for fair pay. Company boasts about having an extremely high employee retention rate while in the same breath say how much opportunity for career advancement. Small company so people in higher positions have been there for years with no plans of leaving soon, resulting in very few and far between opportunities to take on a new roll or career path. Benefits and bonuses are good, CEO (current and former) is fantastic. Makes regular appearances with front line staff and is very friendly/understanding. 
Management in its entirety reflects that of high school cliques. Whether branch to branch or to different departments, can feel very odd at times if youre not in the "group".


If it wasn't for my mom having health issues I would have never left. They have great pay/benefits/management/ co workers. They care about your well being and they will invest in your future/career.  This was by far the best job I ever had and wish I could have worked remotely or they had branches in the state I moved to.

I really enjoyed working for One Nevada Credit Union. The company really cares for you and helps you build your skills. Everyone was very friendly and kind and any issues you might have always an open door with upper management.

Ok Benefits but pay is stagnant and the only way to advance is office politics and being at the same position for 5+ years. New employees are hired at lower rate of pay, to justify not giving raises. Company spends more on company events than giving back to associates.

One Nevada houses a small company feel, where the CEO/President will step in to help out and make you feel included and welcome. 
Adequate training is provided, along with many opportunities to share your ideas.

I've been here for a year and there is absolutely no room to advance. People who been with the company for 30 to 40 years isn't going to retire and I would like to move out the contact center and advance.

ONCU is a great place to work. They treat everyone fairly. The work is not that hard and the core values are a great way to treat everyone. The well being of all employees is important to all management.
