The typical workday at Ono Hawaiian BBQ is hostile and based on favoritism. Managers openly take about the faults of their employees to OTHER employees, which creates a very tense work environment. At my store, the managers will talk about you in front of your face, but in spanish. Those unable to speak or understand Spanish are automatically targeted and gossiped about in front of their faces- unknowingly. I understand what they are saying and it is not professional for managers to be gossiping about their employees. This occurs daily and those who are the favorites receive more work hours and accommodations to their schedules. I called out when I was sick, and the next weekend's schedule reflected their retaliation on me. My hours were cut in half. Ono Hawaiian BBQ management does not care if you are sick. They still expect you to show up to your shift. (Even during this pandemic)!!!
     I have learned absolutely nothing new at this job. The teenagers who work here don't even properly do their job. They sit around on their phones while you help out customers and pack orders. Managers don't even do their job in managing their employees! They are focused on themselves. Managers will not directly tell you if you are doing something wrong. They will just gossip about it. The only thing they teach you is how to use the register and how to package to-go orders. One manager even preys on the young girls that are hired. That's why they only hire [young] females. They do not explain their expectations on customer service, or the treatment of coworkers. 
     The only hard part of this job is dealing with management. Management will not try to correct an employee's attitude and work effort, but they will, once again, gossip about how bad of an employee a person is.  This is my experience as a cashier. You do not want to get me started on how the kitchen handles cooked and raw meat. The kitchen is a mess as well! I absolutely DO NOT recommend working at this company. For your sake and sanity, work anywhere else.

A work day consists of taking orders, helping cooks in the back if its a rush, or cleaning the dining room. When evening rolls around the day starts to slow down and that is time to restock.
   I've learned its important to be quick, especially when there is rush. Not only are you taking orders but you are serving those orders as well. You have to start getting creative, start stacking trays full of multiple orders to put them all out at once. Keep in mind ya want to be calm at this time. If you show any sign of being overwhelmed customers can start to become rude for some strange reason.
   Management is strict, if any manager comes into work they check everything for cleanliness. If you haven't done any cleaning and it hasn't been busy, they are going to have a talk with you. Even though the management is strict they are there to help with anything.
   Starting out, senior co-workers can be rude. They don't want to lose their hours to the new employee. So it's going to be a rough first few weeks. 
   The hardest part about this job is keeping busy. When its slow you run out of things to clean or restock and you get bored.
   I enjoy the rush of customers, when its busy the time flies by and you feel like you are in and out before you even know it.

I love most of my employees and they are an awesome group!( were all young and it’s a fairly small town so everyone recognizes or remembers someone from awhile back and it’s amazing). as far as management goes..... the absolute worst. My manager makes me feel horrible about myself and i have had to drive home in tears because of him. Most of management is asian and the language barrier is really hard to actually have a conversation about what’s going on ( not at all saying it’s unacceptable or wrong i just wish i could speak to my manager about issues rather then struggling with trying to understand him through his accent). They’re are very clicky and if an employee complaints they will definitely favor the manager more then you, won’t even look into the issue and assume they are all in the right. No management should ever treat employees like this, let alone young teenagers who are just there to save up for college and pay off their vehicles. I wish corporate could find better management because it would really benefit the company and employees experiences.

When i first started working there everything seemed nice and comfortable, in fact the training was pretty good and i learned a lot. I didn't needed any supervision for the first year, until they change the procedures it was the hardest part, because my new supervisor wanted me to knew the new procedure in 2 weeks when in the training the CEO told us for every change in the procedure we would have at least 3 to 4 months to learn everything. The most enjoyable part of my job was that i learned a lot of new things and it was easy for me to learn, it was a nice place to meet people and socialize, in fact i meet two people there and i can say that i never saw them as co-workers always as friends because even tho now i don't work there anymore we still spend time together like real good friends.
i had to managed 3 different stores, payroll, schedule, food cost, labor cost, yearly increase and decrease range between 40 stores, i can say that was the fun part. :)

This is a good job if nothing else lines up. I would advise anyone who reads this to avoid working for this company. Read my pros and cons list and that will give you all the info you need.

-Typical day at work for the back crew usually involves cooking, cleaning, or prepping food. Some days there will be shipment which consists of stocking and sorting items.

-Hardest part is rush hour. It can get very busy and workers can get flustered if they're not staying on top with orders.

-Most enjoyable part of the job is socializing with co workers. Once you get comfortable with the environment and the people you work with, it can be pretty fun. If there are people you don't get along with, you'll have some dreadful days.

-Management isn't good. Schedules are inconsistent and managers/supervisors don't often communicate. Meetings are held once a week to discuss things that need to be improved but feedback isn't received well. There are lots of name shaming and workers are often blamed for their incompetence when really, they just haven't received proper training.

the store has a roach problem and corporate continues to blame it on the front crew’s “cleaning” when in reality it can only be solved with professional help. they frequently understaff the front as well as the kitchen due to low sales, resulting in angry customers and angry management due to the longer wait times. your overall work experience is largely dependent on your coworkers as well as your management. corporate needs to get their act together and actually care for their employees instead of just watching them on the cameras and complaining. because of the roach problem, we have had countless customers harass us and scream at us when they find a roach. it’s extremely frustrating when i’m forced to deal with customers that are angry at a problem that i have no control over. while my store’s management is fine, im sick of dealing with corporate’s laziness and incompetence, they need to get their act together. 

A typical day at work consisted of taking orders, handing them out as they came out, maintaining the dinning area clean and all tables pushed in. Depending on the shift and days you worked  affected how fast you had to be moving and how many orders you would br taking and handing out. As a first job this was a great start and learned multiple things and how to stay calm and maintain focused in a fast pace environment. As the months went by working here I wasn't working more than 50 hrs per check and was one of my reasons for leaving. Along with this my second reason for leaving was management and the shift leaders, both lacked leadership skills and being able to maintain a professional work environment. within management their were favorites and those were also the same people that would get 65+ hrs per check.

When I come into work, the first thing that I do is go straight to the office and open the store email to see if there is any mail from the office. Then I look over them and reply to any that need to be responded to. Then I go over all the paper work from the day before and input all the total sales numbers and the cost of the inventory received. I have to help the cashiers in the front with orders and customer service. Also go and help the kitchen with making the orders. At the end of my shift I need to make sure that all the front crew is closing the registers right and filling out their closing paper work. I  have to make sure that the right amount of money from each drawer is dropped at the correct amount.

It's honestly not the best long term considering how I just got screwed out of a promotion by the whims of the regional manager but the pay is pretty good (14.00 at start till training is over then it's 14.50) and its definitely is an easy first job. The workers are all very friendly and my mangers are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Getting to advanced crew (a postion just below shift lead and the one you go to begin training for the afor mentioned position) involves hard work and getting noticed by your superiors but overall pretty easy to get to. The hardest part is climbing above it especially when your boss's boss hires someone with more experience despite someone else already being promised the position.
