Options Behavioral Health System

I worked here until recently. There is absolutely no structure with administration. The communication in the facility is awful with the administration and staff. In my personal opinion I believe that administration see the patients as product and not people. This is truly a number system, it's all about dollar signs for Options Behavioral Health. They do not care about their workers. Workers constantly worked out of ratio causing it to be dangerous. A lot of days no breaks at all. And these are just a few issues with this facility.

Working at the Mental Hospital Options was a fascinating experience. I was a second shift technician for a long time and then finished as a third shift technician. On second shift it is a part of an everyday routine to check on patients frequently, lead group discussions, help patients with day to day tasks, use de-esculation techniques and/or CPI holds. Along with that is the observation of moods, behaviors, and any reactions to medications. 
I got to meet some of the most intense and wonderful people while working there. Both the staff and patients alike were motivational in my continuing of employment there everyday.

Managed incoming and outgoing call for a busy Mental Hospital and Office.  Standardized department filing system to increase efficiency.  Improved communication efficiency as primary liaison between departments, clients and vendors.  Maintained and organized master Resident Index and information files in Master database.  Greeted  visitor, direct to appropriate department.  Always professional. positive and tactful.  Announce emergency codes over pager system.

A typical day at option is challenging in the sense that you don't know what behaviors you will deal with, but some days are surprisingly calm.
The management is poor. They don't rate performance based on your work. It is a fast- revolving door. Also, the working environment is always too cold or too hot. They never seem to get the right temperature. When you complain about it, they say it is because the building is old.

Options has both positive and negative aspects. The other employees make it a great place to work. People who truly care about those in crises work here. The company Acadia is very profit focused which unfortunately comes at the sacrifice of patient care. Still paper charting in place, but not that bad. Lots of opportunities to get over time and the bonuses are pretty good. Lots of diversity in the work place which is an absolute plus. Overall I have enjoyed my time here!

I learned a LOT working there, saw things I have never seen before.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
To me… nothing was stressful. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We were hardly known for turning people away but things could change at any moment we just had to move accordingly 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Eight hours of 15 minute checks to ensure that all were safe. Clean up at the end of the shift

I enjoyed helping people when they needed it the most. Leadership was approachable and cared about me personally when I had my own family crisis. Leadership has diversity and a lot of strong female leaders. The techs work hard to make sure the patients were safe. I had stressful days, but the environment and my coworkers made the stressful days bearable. It's paper charting which I liked, but there could be improvements. Pay for a travel nurse was good, especially with shift bonuses! If I moved back to the area, I would work there again.

As a former travel nurse there, what mattered most in this system was that each staff member did not have to work too hard to pull their weight. Without concern as to how the patients were effected, nurses and techs did not want to do more than the absolute minimum. Instead of pulling together as a team and doing their job description efficiently, they just yelled at each other and gripped about elementary aspects of their obligations. 

Lots of great people who work here. Psych is not for everyone. Lots of abuse verbally and physically by the patients. EASY MONEY THOUGH. Management is sub par. Patients are not separated to program on proper units wich causes alot of anxiety for the patients. The place just fills the beds and doesn't care about helping people get better. It's all about how long insurance will cover. If insurance will cover we keep them if not we kick them out. 

Acadia Healthcare (Options' parent company) has a "CEO school." Acadia staffs their clinics and hospitals with these green and clinically incompetent “graduates” that are trained to secure the bottom line. Period. 

If you are a medical or clinical professional, KEEP SEARCHING for employment.  However, Acadia might be a good stock buy if you have no qualms with choosing corporate greed over employee well-being and patient care.
