Even after 14+ years I am continuously impressed by how thoughtful, big hearted and generous this organization is. OCCU has developed and supported me as a person, beyond just an employee pursing a career (while that has been supported as well). I have seen countless situations where we go above and beyond to help our members, community and employees. It truly is an amazing place to work. 

In my daily job I am challenged while knowing my manager and team have my back and deeply care about me as a person. I feel like I can be my authentic self and am recognized for my unique value and effort. I started off as a Teller and have grown an unexpected career that I love. I have developed steadfast friendships while working at OCCU and even met my spouse here. Not to mention the hundreds of employees that I work with regularly who are exceptional humans in addition to being talented, hard working, caring people. 

Working for an organization that genuinely cares about it's members and making a difference in their lives, creates a unifying purpose for all employees to rally around. Our employees care about our members and it warms my heart to see the vast number of ways they show it, throughout all levels of the organization. Knowing that the place you work for is a force for good, provides it's own intrinsic value that isn't easily replaced. 

I am proud to work at OCCU and so grateful for my wonderful team, Leadership, and every employee that shows up each day to help our members and community thrive. 

A typical day at work at Oregon Community Credit Union would be very productive. It consisted of around a nine hour day with an eight hour period of time open to the public. During that eight hour period, as a teller, I would help members with day to day financial transactions as well as assist with more specific financial needs. To be confident in doing this took hard work and time. We had monthly online tests and workshops to make sure we were performing at our absolute best. Along with this, there was a incentive "points" system in place that made you responsible for holding your own weight in the company. You would have a goal of the amount of points that you would earn by successfully having someone sign up for a new service (new account, credit card, line of credit etc.). Teamwork at OCCU was very important and in my experience we succeeded at making it a fun and comfortable place to work. We felt confident in one another and it showed in our work and to our members. In my opinion the hardest part of the job was advancement. It was extremely difficult to have time to shadow other jobs (which was encouraged) therefore it was difficult to show  your interest to a wider audience. One of many things I enjoyed about my work at OCCU was building relationships with the members and seeing their trust in me grow.

When I started my journey with OCCU, I could have never fathomed the family I would be joining, the support I'd be given, the friendships that would blossom, and the incredible leadership I would long to emulate. In my tenure, I have been given opportunities to grow and develop, not only in my career but to realize my personal aspirations in education as well. 

Although my education is not in this industry, I do not believe I could ever find a more big-hearted and supportive credit union than OCCU. They truly embody their core values and provide the opportunities to set employees up for success and find their passion. 

I started as a temporary employee and only thought that I would be here for a week or two to support the team, but I was told back then, they would grab hold of me and never let me go. I cannot be more grateful that they were right. I want everyone to experience the amazing opportunities for a lifelong enriching career that OCCU can provide.

While they are an excellent company to do business with (provided you never have to call in), their internal employee culture is more like a cult than an office. Sales are emphasized more than member service regardless of what management says. They have a white board they climb up on a table to update, but it only reflects their sales. They do not have another white board for service. And the staff are grotesquely incentivized to sell - one rep I worked with took home more in bonuses than I took home on my entire paycheck. This is not the credit union way - it's disgusting. Management is overwhelmed and turnover is high, and the systems are pretty unwieldy. They're also quick to throw you into things without proper training, and they're miserable at the whole ADA interactive process. I've never had an experience like this before, and I thought I was prepared - this was my third credit union. I would recommend avoiding this place unless you have some pressing reason to work here besides a paycheck.

Currently as an employer OCCU fails to provide the kinds of career opportunities, benefits, and pay that make working here worth it. The two largest problems here involve upper management and the employee experience. Upper management consistently makes decisions that prevent career progression, fair employee compensation, and corporate transparency. An example is that the Chief of HR recently decided to place length of employment requirements for promotions and raises. This caps career progression and inhibits people that excel at their jobs from receiving credit. Aside from upper management the employee experience is hampered by an incredibly high stress environment that is matched with low wages. Fast food restaurants actually pay OCCU's SER and MCC wages at entry level positions. 

The company had great intentions of creating a fulfilling work environment, and typically meets or exceeds those goals. As with any employer, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch and in an effort to provide opportunities for growth, there are times where a poisonous employee is kept too long. This is especially bad when that person is in a management position because it makes life unpleasant for anyone below them. However, the overall culture is exceptional, and can serve as a beacon of light in times of darkness. 
Ongoing employee training is a strength, as is maintaining a fun atmosphere. Overall, there is a bit of room for improvement but when compared to similar places of employment, OCCU is likely the better option. 

The company as a whole has amazing values, people, and benefits. No company is perfect and there are some things to be adjusted to as far as technology goes, but overall this is the best job in Member Services I have ever experienced. You are challenged everyday while being appreciated often. People are genuine and amazing, and you will probably develop some friends along the way. You get compensated well and they take care of you, especially during difficult times. I'm grateful to be a part of such a wonderful organization. 

This company is horrific! I would not recomend anyone apply here unless you want a dead end job that has ALOT of office drama! There are a few bad apples that make working there a nightmare and hr will do nothing about it even though an entire staff made complaints. If you don’t work in the Eugene area they could care less about you! Most of the management staff in salem and Wilsonville are awesome but I think it speaks volume when the staff that has been there for a long time is all quitting or on the verge of quitting! Apply some place that values its employees! Not at occu

Oregon Community credit union is an excellent company to work for. They take good care of their employees offering good benefits and pay. I love my coworkers and the people I work for. I learned a lot about member service and what the atmosphere is like working for a credit union rather than a bank. The job can be stressful with a high volume intake of loans, but this was another learning experience and a good challenge to better myself as an employee. The culture is very laid back and welcoming.

Everyone at this wonderful not for profit is extremely nice and supportive. Though I am in a sales position my performance is not solely rated by how much I sell. What's important to this company is how well the members are treated. Any question I ever have is answered with patience and encouragement. The company makes concerted efforts to stand behind employees during tough and stressful times.
