•	Conduct court-ordered assessments with inmates and defendants with mental health issues, severe trauma and or substance abuse
•	Assess at-risk factors and develops a preliminary plan, involving the veteran and family or significant others, and performs an insightful assessment of serious and complicated cases involving psychiatric illness which may also include, catastrophic medical condition, dementia, traumatic brain injuries, and other high risks diagnoses.
•	Coordinate community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs. Provides comprehensive case management services to veterans is a part of ambulatory care, community agencies, and outreach programs.
•	Interviews the veteran and their family members or significant others to establish facts about the veteran's situation, presenting problems and their causes, and the impact of such problems on the veterans functioning and health.
•	Provides referral, rehabilitation, and program admission activities that include referral to VA medical and mental health inpatient and outpatient treatment.
•	 Serves as the community liaison with military and civilian agencies to promote timely information exchange, coordinate collaborative prevention efforts, and establish resource links and community partnerships.
•	Interview consumers and obtain collateral information from relatives and all necessary parties to develop a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, including diagnostic formulation and recommendations regarding suitability for treatment within Veterans Treatment Court setting
•	Develop individualized, holistic treatment plans utilizing services provided by multiple agencies to address the comprehensive needs of the consumer, including housing, individual therapy, group therapy, dual diagnosis treatment, and more
•	Collaborate with VA Veterans Treatment Court liaisons (Veterans Justice Outreach Specialists) to construct the best treatment plan for each consumer in consideration of discharge status and available resources
•	Provide psycho-education to consumers about mental illness and treatment options, and collaborate with consumers to assist them in working towards recovery
•	Provide case presentations and written reports to an inter-agency, interdisciplinary collaborative team, the Veterans Treatment Court committee, and explain findings and clinical rationale of recommendations
•	Collaborate with consumer and multidisciplinary team to make referrals and assist with case management needs
•	Provide crisis intervention and assess for consumer safety (suicidal/homicidal ideation and self-harm)
•	Submit mandated child abuse or elder/dependent adult abuse reports as needed
•	Enter assessments, diagnosis, consumer care plan, and progress notes into the Riverside County Department of Mental Health Electronic Medical Record (ELMR) system

What is the best part of working at the company?
The diversity that I have each day that I work.  I could be in the office for the first part of my work day.  And then be working in the field for the second half of my work day.  And when I do go out to the field, it's never the same concern or issue that I have to inspect.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of my job is trying to engage with homeless people who appear to have mental issues.  And, trying to engage with residential homeowners to get a matter resolved and they want to talk with me with an adversarial attitude. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
At the Riverside County Flood Control & Water Conservation District, most of the people that I work with are down to earth, hard working, teachable, and easy to talk to. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My typical day is to first look at the California OES Website to see if there are any issues or concerns within Riverside County that have impacted or could have an impact to one of the District's flood control facilities.  After that, I usually go through emails to see if there are any concerns going on that may have impacted a District facility.  I usually complete an NPDES Complaint Call Report or two in the morning time.  I may go out to the field during the late morning or early afternoon to investigate a complaint that was reported as impacting a District facility.  After investigating that concern, I sometimes drive by other District facilities to see if there are any issues or concerns that need to be noted and possibly addressed in the near future.  I will usually email photos and notes to myself before I go back to my office from my field investigations.  So that when I get back to my office, I can download photos and copy and paste text into my NPDES Complaint Call Report database to compose a report.  After composing a preliminary report, I send that information to the District's Operations & Maintenance Division to notify them of concerns at District facilities that need to be resolved and/or cleaned up.

I was a volunteer at the Riverside Dept of Animal Services for about 2 years; it was nothing short of amazing! I felt I had a purpose, I was collaborating with several people and felt we all had a great, common goal--to save our shelter pets. I was so excited to be a part of such a great mission! Then, at the end of 2024, I got hired and I felt I finally found my niche in the perfect career as an animal lover. Everything was so good workwise, with several different projects and tasks for me to assist with, yet once I hit about 6 months into my temporary employment contract and was made part of a team, I wasn't recognized for my work. I was ignored and brushed aside in favor of the "dream team". I also was not updated on new processes and procedures as frequently, and no one really checked in with me for task progress at all.  Many times, even when my team would say "let us know if you need anything at all!" And I did, I would get radio silence and be forced to do things on my own. As a temp, I never knew much about what I was cleared to do or use, so I was extremely nervous that I would be fixing my issues using something I didn't know I couldn't use to problem solve. Then, I got restricted in 50% of my work load because the shelter staff  frowns on speaking to the public about animal details. While trying to be open and professional, I apparently said something that got me into trouble with the rescue team because it wasn't "the right verbage." I was only using the ways I was previously told how to handle public inquiries, and never got the new responses to use or process of communication. 

Overall, at first, it is a great place to work, but eventually, you don't really feel useful and very isolated. It doesn't help that management is a bit of a mess and takes forever to process contract extensions or update your access/badge cards for the building.

I applied for the County of Riverside back in October of 2015. I got a call in December in regards to my application and if I'd be interested in coming in to test for the position. It was for the TAP office in Riverside, which was explained to be basically like a temp agency for the county. I did a test in Spanish, to be eligible for positions that were bilingual. I was told I had passed, and was asked to come to "interview". I came back, interviewed, did a finger printing as well as took a photo. I was told I'd have to wait for the results of my back round check, and the DOJ. Well, a month passed and I heard nothing. I assumed something went wrong, or the position I was offered was no longer available. In January, I received a call from another employee at that office, that said I would be required to do a drug and blood test, asap. Well, I did that, and was told I would be contacted once the results came back. 4 weeks passed, and I heard nothing. So, I called the recruiter and discovered VIA her voice mail, she was on vacation and would be returning a week later. I called her a few days after she had returned and she had told me she needed to wait til the first person I interviewed returned from their vacation, but that she would send me an email with instructions and the information for my orientation, since the results of my blood/drug test came back clear. Well, that email never came. I waited a week and called the first person I interviewed with. He told me that I still needed to speak to her. So, he claimed he would leave her my name and number, and that she would be calling me back. Well, that was a lie, I never heard anything from anyone. I wasted my time for this position, declined other offers with the assumption this would go through, base on everything they told me. Biggest waste of time. I'm aware of positions sometimes not falling through etc... but a simple email stating that would have sufficed.

I am currently an Eligibility Technician II for the CalFresh/ General Assistance program. Being a Eligibility Technician is the most stressful job you can have working at the county. Our work is never ending, we have around 8 appointmentments scheduled a day and that does not include the amount of reports or cases that you have to get done to avoid delinquencies, and not to mention lobby applications that come in throughout the day. Lobby applications are about 2-3 a day at times. When a normal appointment should be scheduled for 1 hour long, our appointments right now are being scheduled for 30 minutes long , and that is to allow us to book these appointments before the applications go past the 30 day processing timeframe.  We have a caseload of around 560 each, we have around 70 semi annual reports due each month before the end of the month, we have around 30 recertifications due also by the end of the month. Also there are our tasks that are crazy unmanageable, we have so many past due task. The management does little to nothing to help us out and eliviate the amount of work we have and the amount of stress. We are expected to be up to date on our work, and call customers back without 24 hours, mind you we get around 20 voicemails each day, sometimes you don't even have time to call these customers back because you are too busy processing cases , or conducting interviews. Now we are getting transitioned to being MCFresh workers, which basically means you do Medical & CalFresh programs, but each program has their own rules and regulations. The ET's right now that are MCFresh are having trouble managing their caseload, and again management does nothing to help. If you are considering working for the county I would NOT recommend the Eligibility Technician position.

Very trying of character red tape is a trip to see the county and state couldn't pay for overtime and also very disappointed that our elders are with low priority in the overall attitude towards how the caregivers are paid and that overtime and normal benefits like overtime and the hours and going overtime is always the real worry. The care for our elders is at stake constantly as they need more respect as people and our loved ones that set us on a better path bringing us up how can you limit who takes care of them by denying certain compensation as fast food workers are paid more in wages and the travel time is also not reimbursed but it's us special people who keep doing it even tho it leaves it close for us to care for our families and stay working as economy or the fight to lower rent hurts these special few worse than others to be abled caregivers and afford our bills at the same time but our integrity keeps us employees for those who will be gone when we are elders hoping there is a family member or a good person that will care alot. I hope and can only pray for them and for our future to get better by changing the level of seriousness the issue is and change the structure of our bosses and the importance of the need instead of being so firm on fraud or stress consistently over how much money we save and budge a bit to make things reasonable and be appreciative that we want to be there as most of us want to do what we were taught as children and that is to respect and take care of the elderly in need and to live out life at home. We must think to pay out in these areas instead if thinking or questioning it's importance in making the position less and less able economical y.

A typical day at County of Riverside is dynamic and engaging. Mornings often start with a team check-in to align on priorities and goals for the day. Then, I focus on my core tasks, whether that’s working on projects, collaborating with colleagues, or problem-solving. Customer Services. To complete data Entry, conduct pre-screening of eligibility factors, as well as interviews to determine eligibility in accordance with State and Federal guidelines. Interpret program rules and regulations to customers and the general public. Provide excellent customer service. To interview customers to assist them in the completion of the application so that eligibility can be determined. Review and evaluate all statements of fact given by Social Service case managers during initial eligibility determinations. Request necessary documentation needed to verify client’s property, income, other financial resources and financial obligations. Deputies deal with various different ranges of persons including the repeated criminals, gangs, sex offenders, drug dealers, the common citizen, lawyers, judges and other agencies such as CIA, FBI, ATF, homeland security, social services and other municipal agencies. This job is not for the faint hearted. You have to quick on your feet to make decisions that could be either life or death, be open minded when dealing with crime scenes by listening to both sides of the story. Compassion is also a good asset in this job. The only part about this job is it can harden you by all the different types of calls you attend. If you feel you can make a difference and are not afraid to confront others who are out to get you, this job is for you. The benefits are great, the camaraderie will last a lifetime and the satisfaction of saving or changing someone's life cannot be learned in any school.
