I love the physicians/supporting clinical staff here. The learning ability and gain in personal relationships are worth it most days. Then other days, it’s not. This is THE most stressful job I’ve ever had and it shouldn’t be. Management is more like a lack there off. They do not care what your opinion/feelings are because it doesn’t change the outcome. It’s a lot of “hearing” but not truly listening. Responsibility in the office for tasks gets moved constantly without any proper discussion about it as a team to improve workflows and quality of work. Schedules are overbooked and double booked. Not only is the staff and providers suffering from it but the patients are too. Rather than putting care first it’s about revenue. And PTO/Time off is a joke. You get to barley accumulate enough PTO per paycheck to afford the holidays let alone needs for dr apts, kids, emergency..etc. So take your vitamin C and don’t get sick. 

(Note: this was from 4 years ago, things might have changed :-)) OPR is a nice hospital to go to if you're sick, the doctors are amazing and the hospital is high-tech. However, working there had its ups and downs. I learned a lot during my time there, and the Tele department head when I was hired was simply amazing (the three that followed her were horrible). My night shift charge nurse was also amazing. My fellow night shift nurses were simply awesome! (lots of young nurses so no attitude yet :-) :-)) The day shift charges were clicky and unsympathetic. I have vivid memories of running my A off all night long, just to hear from the day shift charge that I'd forgotten to update something on my whiteboard. Tele was the unwanted stepchild, and we got dumped with everything. Didn't matter how many patients you had and what their acuity was, if they wanted to hit you with another admit, they did. Beginning and end of shift were often insane. On the plus side, you will definitely learn time management!! Much like growing up on a farm, I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't do it again :-)

Pros: Entry level, hands on experience in sterile processing, benefits are standard for a large healthcare facility 

Cons: The department was often understaffed, leading to heavy workloads and frequent pressure to rush tasks. Communication from leadership was inconsistent, and expectations were not always clearly communicated. Training varied depending on staffing needs rather than a standardized process, which made it challenging to feel fully supported in the role. Employee concerns regarding workload and workflow were not regarding workload and workflow were not consistently addressed, contributing to stress and low morale.

Advice to Management: Improve staffing levels, provide consistent training, and communicate expectations more clearly. Support staff and addressing concerns proactively would improve retention and overall department performance.

This is an environment of watch out for number 1. Co-workers throw each other under the bus routinely, management is out of touch with front line work in nearly every discipline. Administration is completely out of touch and maintains an environment of secrecy while claiming to be transparent. This is definitely a workplace in dire need of legitimate leadership rather than a CEO who loves to hear himself talk and exudes a "my way or the highway" attitude to everyone else. Administrators definitely let others know they are beneath them. Everyone talks about a culture of ownership and empowerment but there is anything but. Decisions are driven from the top down where there is little consideration for the individual responsible for the actual work. It is overwhelmingly a do as I say, not as I do environment. Service to customers is hit or miss at best, facility is dirty, staff is lazy, HR is a joke.

I get along great with everyone I work with, but despite changes that are being made, the ambiance in the office is uncertain. We are currently expanding our office since we added on a few new Doctors, but we hired new employees without anywhere to put them since construction isn't complete. We also used Centricity for our EMR and it worked great, but switched over to ECW in April and it was a messy transition.
We didn't get enough training on how exactly to use the system so many of the charts aren't preloaded as they are supposed to be.
I enjoy my coworkers and Doctors and we have great patients.
I'm assured that once every patient has been converted to ECW, which will still take some time, charting will be much easier. We get lots of free lunches which is a great benefit, and management is very open and easy to talk to about anything you have concerns about.

Great place to work where everyone, no joke, treated each other like family. Being around people who's job it was to helping very sick and very small babies thrive--was very rewarding. Management all the way up to the CEO had an open-door policy.

One of the most difficult parts of my job was processing payroll for all 177 people in the unit.  I also kept track of their meeting attendance, certifications, licenses, and various lists and databases with specific information on the employees. Using my sense of humor and keeping a positive attitude, made these processes enjoyable for everyone.  

My interaction with so many people from so many backgrounds was the most rewarding part of my job.  Never a dull moment and always learning something new.

Typical day started often with "trauma" patients in ICU/CCU where I worked. I learned a lot about trauma and what has to be done to save a life. The management team was highly trained and execution showed. My coworker were great and always ready to help save a life.
The hardest part of the job was keeping up the fast paced level we were under but managed it well.
The most enjoyable part of this job was being able to see "trauma" patients either being able to move out of the ICU/CCU unit or sometimes being able to walk out on their own power.

I enjoyed working here because of the awesome manager who was very upbeat and enthusiastic about her position and her team. She was not only a great communicator (she had an open-door policy and was very accessible) but she was hands-on with patient care when the situation called for it. I loved all the advanced technology being used at this facility from the computerized vitals' machines to the IPhones we used where patient information could be found. I also like the ratio of patients to nurses on the telemetry unit I worked on (4:1). There was also room for career advancement too.

Personally, I believe workplace culture and people you work with are a huge factor in how you feel about your job and can make the difference in loving your job vs. not being able to stand it! I've worked at OPR for over a year and have never encountered a hospital that has so many friendly people. 
On top of that, I can honestly say the management is wonderful. They're helpful, supportive, and are always trying to come up with ways to improve things not only for patients, but for the staff. It's much easier to have a strong team when you have managers like that. Such a breath of fresh air compared to many other companies (whether in health care or not).

Management is two faced and will screw you over as much as possible. Hospital staff treats patient safety attendants like scum. You’re locked in a room for 12 hours with a patient and good luck getting anyone to help you. They say you’re not allowed to touch the patient but nurses and care techs will leave you to do everything on your own including showers and going to bathroom. Hospital makes patients involuntary psych to hold them for extra days for more $$. Nurses do not care or have the proper psych training so sometimes that makes situations ten times worse. I’ve worked a lot of different jobs and I never hated my life more than working at this  company.
