OMC built it's culture around finding good employees to prop up departments while the directors hang out together outside of their departments. See for yourself, any day, by walking in the cafeteria and looking at the tables next to the cash register or in their cars outside smoking. The philosophy here lends to managers bearing the brunt of the directors and the hourly employees scurrying to keep buckets under the leaks in the roof so to speak. With the CEO anxiously trying to build a successful surgical department, they pressure the surgical team into allowing surgeons to bring cases to the OR that are not suitable for a small community hospital. I would highly recommend asking about their patient transfer rate to see how many patients get transferred to other facilities that are better equipped. The team winds up burning themselves out by lunch (if you get one) due to being worked so hard, just to be sent home early and not be able to work all scheduled hours. But, worry not, as you will be called in numerous times to perform non-emergent cases and be told to cover multiple departments for the same flat-rate call pay. They are on the lower end of the pay spectrum for the Central Florida market so with the loss of hours and constant night/weekend call it's not very conducive to working here and being able to support a family. The newer director is on a mission to get rid of all the employees that have been here since the first two years, so there will continue to be open positions and travelers. As with any surgical department, the staff is split. Most of the nurses and techs will bend over backwards to help each other, but there are a few that will sure do the opposite. Same goes for anesthesia, most of them are excellent, one is not very nice at all and another wouldn't stand up for the team if their life depended on it. Also, for some reason, PACU and the OR don't get along. PACU operates in the idea that the OR team is responsible for their duties like transporting patients. If you choose to work here anyway, come on down, put on a smile, don't complain about anything; especially favoritism, collect a paycheck/awesome benefits, and go home. Just keep your scrubs on, because you'll get called right back in anyway.

Lots of fraternizing going on between directors and management. No policies in place that benefit patients. Will make sure the cafeteria food is good before ensuring we have the proper equipment to be able to take care of patients.  Manager that do speak up for their department get fired. Managers do not listen to employees about the needs of the department. Managers will deny your vacation then turn around and take vacation. All of this is allowed by the upper management because they know. They punish you for having another job and won't give you hours. In the RT department the lead will take the same assignment and then will throw a tantrum when you want to change it up, the lead is also never available when you need help. Everyone sees these things and does nothing because they are scared to speak because retaliation is very popular there. The director and the lead of the same department are in a relationship and they don't see a conflict of interest there because the lead "reports to someone else".  HR is not your friend, they are there for the best interest of the company, it took HR 2 months to process an application for me, when it should have had a 3 day turn around time. They do not offer any room for growth unless you are up someone rear end. If you fight for your patients rights, and advocate for your department and are used to having policies to help you do your job this place is not for you. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Was doing my job. The best part was helping patients, and making sure that they got what was needed. I enjoyed knowing that the patient exited the records department with a smile. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The department I worked for. I worked eight years, however, the last year was not what I hoped for. There was no sense of belonging, unfairness, and discrimination by the leader. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company is great to work for,  but not when it comes to how long a person’s has worked there. Also, not having a sense of belonging. This is in the environment of the department I worked in. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I kept myself in a routine everyday. By doing that it made the day run smoothly. However, some colleagues were not onboard when it comes to having an up beat enthusiastic day.

I am so happy to be working at Oviedo. It is the best place I have ever worked, and it starts in the C-Suite; they are always available and are very hands on.  The expectation here is that we handle patient concerns immediately and strive to provide excellent care every day. To make that happen the Leadership takes care of the employees. When I was out with COVID, my leader checked on me and asked if there was anything I needed. Leadership loves to recognize employees and Oviedo has many different recognition awards. In addition, they have many events to show employees that they are appreciated such as serving them meals during holidays. Oviedo is also very involved in the community providing education and volunteers for other organizations that assist our community. 

I've worked as a nurse for many years and even worked for one of the bigger most popular company here in Orlando , Lord believe me.. Management actually cares for you as an individual. I feel in a sense I have more help here than I had at the other corporation I worked for. We actually have techs and lab comes to draw our blood work!!Hospital is smaller, yes but everyone and teams works well together. Sometimes we have resource nurses and discharge nurses. Easy to communicate with Doctors with great response times. I especially like they promote their nurses to higher positions from within. Overall happier to be here. Every Hospital has it's challenges, yes we have challenging days. It's how you deal with stress but overall not a bad place to work at all. I feel the nurses have a strong voice and we are heard which is rare. 

This is an amazing facility/company to work for.  Staff are appreciated.  Care is taken to ensure everyone has what they need to complete their daily tasks.  Leadership is readily available especially if you have a need.  As the facility becomes busier, there are growing pains, but everyone works together to listen to the issue, formulate a resolution, and adjust as needed on implementation.  Culture is fantastic.  There is a distinct, clear expectation that our patients are the center of everything we do.  I love working here and plan to be here for years to come!

Oviedo Medical Center is the best organization I have served in my career. Of course, it isn’t perfect but it has less issues than most American healthcare organizations. The current leaders led by example to demonstrate the Mission. Over the last 1.5 years, we had multiple gatherings with free food, give aways, fun events, & many other ways to say “thank you.” There are at least 5 formal ways to be recognized by peers/patients/leaders. Resources are defiantly abundant! If you are willing to be part of the solution, hard work, & keep the patient the center of everything…This IS the place for you!! 

I worked here and they had been open for just a year. So I’m hoping that some things have changed. The staffing was terrible. Management was turning over like crazy. How can a manager on a flailing unit be promoted for a director level position at another hospital? I guess that’s HCA for you. 

People were nice and the technology was outstanding. However, most floors relied on bottom of the barrel agency nurses who did not have a vested interest in seeing the hospital succeed. It just seemed too much. Hopefully as time has gone on, they’ve learned some things along the way.

Management and staff are friendly and helpful. Training is provided for you to be successful in your job.

The company is stress free.  They provide all you need to do your job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment is pleasant . Staff is helpful and no drama.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The ER is unpredictably. It can calm to crazy busy in few minutes.

The management looks at other avenues to get the heat of off themselves. In the beginning it is told they will work with you for school and work balance life. As time goes on if you don’t pick up extra and still have your own life to put first it’s a problem. I understand A business aspect but this management does not care what so ever. If you are a CNA or a patient care tech do not work here.
