Being apart of the Leadership team at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for the past year has been great. Owensboro has been a welcomed change. Owensboro Hospital is working their way up for being a great healthcare provider to becoming an excellent healthcare provider. That is commendable in itself. Most healthcare hospitals I have worked for in the past were being rating as OK on their patient surveys. Ownesboro has made a huge initiative to make sure their staff is happy. Due to the way the employee surveys were rated and weighted they have been able to figure out where more services are needed. Owensboro passed their Joint Commission Survey in Ma of 2017. The awesome part about it is Owensboro was rated and passed the survey based on Joint Commission's new surveying style. It has been a challenge in my role at the hospital only because most of the leaders in the organization have worked for the company many years and worked their way up through the ranks amongst their peers. Coming in from the outside has had it's pros and cons. It has personally been of great benefit to me because I am constantly challenged to do more and do even better than before. I really enjoy it.

I worked on the IT Service Desk for almost 2 years.  Daily I was cussed at by doctors and lower level employees while trying to assist them with basic computing. Some of the IT managers don't even know some of the basics.  It's a very low wage job and the mental stress isn't worth the trouble.  No one except the lowest level employees are held accountable.
And they will fire you for almost nothing.  Most people who work for the company are scared and/or unhappy and it influences everything about the company.  The way some of the docs and employees behave behind the scenes makes me question how patients (or more appropriately "customers") are treated.  And the company offers "success sharing."  Basically bonuses but they can't call them that since they are a non-profit.  
Most employees will get a "success sharing" check for $600 bucks... While people in Admin will received a bonus of their full annual salary.  So the days that I received a $600 dollar check there were other people in the org getting checked for $400,000 bucks...  
The company is severely broken.  Beware.

The Emergency Department of OHRH is fast paced, but is a great way to learn how a hospital is run and the inner workings between other facilities and companies that are working with the hospital. My job requires no medical knowledge, but I have learned a lot during my time here. Offers great benefits for full time employees (vacation hours, sick time, holiday hours, birthday hours, personal benefit time) with a shift differential from 6pm - 6am. The hardest part of my job is time management, it is easy to become overwhelmed with tasks if time management is not implemented. The most enjoyable part of my job is the staff that is in the Emergency Room. Most everyone in the ER is friendly towards each other and often have social gatherings outside of work, but not affiliated with the hospital. There is no typical day at work, each day is different but expect to be busy for a good portion of your day.

I currently work at this hospital, and have for the last 2 years. They make themselves out to be a safe, zero bullying workplace. However, this is far from the truth. Management is demeaning and talks down to staff, employees go behind each other’s backs to complain to management instead of bringing issues directly to the person involved, making it impossible to improve or feel safe while working. New nurses are looked down on and talked down to if they ask for help or if they take the time to step back and think, which leads nurses to rush through tasks and not be able to critically think. The facility brags about how it is a safe culture and a no blame culture, but blame is constantly placed on individual staff members, instead of process or manufacturing issues. Overall, I’m honestly disappointed, because I really thoroughly love many of the floor staff on my unit and absolutely love caring for the patients. However, this is just not a safe environment to make a career in. 

I work in General Maintenance and Security. If anything breaks, I fix it, ranging from scrubbing out whirlpools to rebuilding ballast trays to installing new contactors in rooftop HVAC units.Also tasked with any security issue involving unruly membership or parking lot accidents , complete with incident reports and online follow up. A typical day will involve coming in to work, checking the pending work orders, itemizing by customer needs, fixing those and then carrying on with assigned preventative maintenance tasks, while on standby for any emergency or security detail. I've learned a lot about plumbing and HVAC while in this position as well as general maintenance skills in drywall, carpentry and painting. The hardest part of the job is the shift, and knowing there is no room for advancement or shift change. The most enjoyable part of the job is it's atmosphere and the facility.

When I initially joined Owensboro Health, I found it to be a positive work environment. However, within a short few years, the morale at the hospital completely tanked. Leadership within case management has displayed highly questionable ethics. Employees are undervalued. Health insurance benefits are grossly poor - such a shame for a healthcare system. Apathy among all departments is rampant. I don’t think anything will change until the administration changes.  Somehow they don’t seem to understand that patients will receive an increased quality of care when the people taking care of them feel supported, valued, and invested in the success of the organization. I am baffled by any positive reviews and honestly question their validity. I would HIGHLY encourage anyone considering this employer to speak with current people working there for an accurate reading on the OH environment .

Not only is OHRH an excellent facility to work at with all of the latest technology and ancillary services to make an RN's job easier, the Surgical care and Pediatrics team in particular is one in a million. Management, supervisors and the educator are all amazing as well as the staff nurses. My experience at OHRH Surg care and Peds has been nothing short of enriching. The ONLY con about working at this facility is mandatory overtime. We have been doing one overtime shift per schedule since I started almost 2 years ago. It's not that bad for most people, and the compensation for overtime is great. However, I drive a long distance to work and have a baby at home, so mandatory overtime is hard on my family life. But the positive to this is the administrators and managers bring up mandatory overtime very frequently and do everything they can to discuss a better plan for their employees.

First real job I had in 23 years. OHRH gave me the opportunity to work again in their housekeeping department. I picked it up quick. I learned about different chemicals and different ways of cleaning rooms that had been infected with different bacteria. I was monitored and critiqued in a nice way. I loved the work because I kept going. I was never sitting down. I learned how to clean and prep different areas of the hospital. It was never boring. Working the ER was fast paced so it made the night go back very fast. My supervisors, Salvie Truitt and Joey were wonderful. They appreciated everyone and thanked them every night for their hard work. All my co-workers were great and funny. I had no issue with any one of them. I don't believe there was a hard part of my job. I am a fit person so bending, stooping, lifting, etc was very easy for me.

My experience has not been very good. It all depends where you work in the hospital. Management doesn't care about the employees. Department I worked in talked badly about employees in front of other employees and made fun of some employees. Not very professional or mature. I felt like I was back in elementary school working with these nurses. Never felt apart of the team because there weren't any teams that I could see.   Understaffed and overworked. Advancement is only offered to those who do not work.  If you get hurt or sick, don't take off work because management would make it hard on you when you come back or hire someone to take your place and you wouldn't get to come back.  Mgmt doesn't care about employees or their patients.  Why do you think management won't send their families to this hospital. Not a disgruntled ... just the facts!

I worked at Owensboro Health for nearly a decade.  I was proud to be part of the planning and establishment of the new facility.  It is one of the best hospitals in the country for patients, guests, and staff.

Salaries are competitive to excellent for the region.  The facility is stable and has excellent senior leadership,  There was a recently corrected poor hire at the CEO level by the governing board.  The current CEO is excellent and will repair any temporary damage promptly.  He is surrounded by a superb administrative team.

I enjoyed my time there and always felt my work was meaningful and appreciated.  Our staff in my department was committed to quality and patient-centered care.  I highly recommend this organization.
