Working at Oxford is overall great! But, it is not a reliable income for todays price of living. It is best suited for students, someone with a job who just wants a little extra side gig, etc... The hours are limited. Perhaps if they hired less and offered employees a full time schedule it wouldn’t be a concern. Other than the limited hours, the only other complaint is new employees aren’t trained all too well. They give you their packets on what they expect of you as an employee etc but as far as who to contact for certain things you have to always call the office phone to be directed and you don’t always know who to speak with about a certain concern. When starting, if they were to be a little more thorough on who handles what would be great. I remember having a concern and talking to a lady at the office on the phone she said well who’s your supervisor and I didn’t know what to say, I was never informed who the supervisor was or the chain of command. Aside from those concerns, everyone is so nice and always has the best interest in mind. And all the residents I have worked with in their homes has been so sweet and amazing. It feels like just spending time at grandma and grandpas place and helping with daily activities of living. This is the absolute ideal job if you’re looking for just a short shift or two to pick up on time off from a regular full time job. But the hours is understandable since working with the elder population they are prone to illness and sudden cancellation occur. Usually when shifts do open it’s very last minute, most shifts are 4 hours long so if traveling from far away it may not be worth it unless you have back to back shifts or longer shifts. 

They pay biweekly, the pay is different depending on what type of resident you work with and your job title. As a CNA it ranges from starting pay of $10.25-$11.00.

One Pro is that if you show up to a home and a resident don’t answer and the office can’t get in touch with them,  you will either be paid for your time or reimbursed mileage traveled to residents home.

Helping the elderly is something that I love to do so when Oxford called and offered me a job it was a fantastic fit for me. I worked five days a week, usually 8 hour days if the person you were going to even kept you that long. I had several of my elders make me leave before I was finished because they had other things to do, which was fine up until I got the paycheck at the end of the week. I would drive 40-60 miles a day and would not be paid mileage because they just don't do that correctly. They would only pay you mileage one way, if at all. The management treated me like family, which is what a place should do! They were always there for me when I needed them! The person who hired me was supposed to show me the opening videos about how to bathe, help incontinent people and other helpful things to know. I didn't get the glory of seeing those  videos until after I had worked there for over two months. The woman who hired me actually quit right after she hired me and several other girls. The pay wasn't that good, honestly. $9.25 for me but with how my car ran and how many miles i had to drive every day it was awful trying to keep gas in my car, food in my belly, and bills paid when half the time my patients were gone or they just didn't want me there. I had this couple completely kick me out and then come up to the office and complain about me all because I went out to my car to eat my lunch which I didn't have time to eat because of how fast paced everything is. Luckily the boss ladies took up for me, which I loved. I loved everyone I worked for. Despite being called in constantly for fill ins, and if you refused the fill in, you got written up. That's just stupid. I miss all of the ladies at the office, if I could go back and work for them again, I would in a heart beat. I just hope they changed some of the things around to help us caregivers out a bit.

No time in between clients to eat and you are not allowed to eat at a home. Also, even if you say you can work FT you are not given hours yet they always tell ppl the need is greater than the staff on hand.  You wil not be doing personal care so dont think you will.  You will doing maid service work.  Save time and work at a hospital, cleaning service, etc.  You will make more and have more hours.  They use the guise as you are helping them stay in theur homes and say they wish they can pay you more but then blame it on the state's Medicaid program for the low wages.  You are required to wear their uniform scrubs but you have to pay for them, again Medicaid charges you and you only get one set. You will also deal with lack of client info such as diagnosis, infections, where to park, etc. So, if you have to park in a timed zone area and you are there longer, guess who pays for the fine.  Yep, you will. A lot of clients are not informed of an incoming aide so then they dont need anyone and you are out of work, gas, etc. They bill Medicaid for personal care but they are only receiving homemaker (maid) services, which some really do need that assistance but most just get it because they are on Medicaid and the state grants it. You will clean blinds, windows, toilets, you will clean their homes and then be too tired to do your own. 
They do offer, where they didnt before, mileage of your clients after the first one and drive pay if you have multiple clients, after the first client of the day.

The new management has made this place a nightmare to work for. There is no control over staffers and it doesn't appear management even cares. Abusive drunken phone calls, not taking no for answer, threats to punish you if you don"t give them what they want are normal life. They don't care if you have a family. They violate laws. This is an agency with PRN assignments though you get full time if you kiss the right butt. No benefits, raises, mileage in years but the request forms are available. Health insurance is supposedly available but it doesn't meet federal guidelines constituting minimum value. They now demand you give mandatory weekends and will take your hours if you don't. They are using facility staffing rules by very inexperienced staffers., They have been successfully sued for failing to pay overtime. They act like they're your best friend until you need a day off.  This is an AGENCY! We owe them nothing but they act like we do. You've trained us to expect nothing and that's what you will get from us. My client is the only thing that has kept me there and that has nothing to do with Oxford!

Again, I have always worked with some wonderful folks.  I can't say enough good things about the owners/management at Upjohn HealthCare.  I'm sure there have been many changes over the years but I would not be surprised if at least 1 person that I worked with back in 1990 was not still in this location.  My main responsibility while at Upjohn was processing the payroll for 1000 MS and AL employees and all the assorted tasks that go with payroll.  I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the job except when someone's check was not right - usually due to the employee not turning in their timesheet on time.  This was something that we took in stride and made every effort to accomodate the employee.  This was a part time job for most of our employees so that they could supplement their full time pay or earn a little extra money for their families so we did what we could.  The most enjoyable part was payday - that's when we got to see most of the employees and sometimes their children - we made it a fun day for all with balloons and lollipops for the children and the "big" children.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Other health care worker's. The girls that work in clients home and do their job really helps the client more than they know. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The possibility of being set up to lose your job because someone you work with wants to move ahead in the company. Manipulation and lies created to where you cannot defend yourself or be able to confront the persons speaking against you. But then again, at this company they are very, very good at covering up their tracks and fabricating the information they are using against you. What is really sad is the co-workers that know you and the truth about you are afraid to speak up for you in fear of losing their jobs. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It use to be a family oriented company that really about the clients. But now seems like it’s all about the money to be made.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy, but enjoy being and helping clients with their daily activities. Adding a little happiness to their day

A typical day on the job is actually rather slow most days. We go and sit with a single client all day, or night, whatever the schedule may be. I have been able to keep up my nursing skills with a few of the clients but one or two it seems more like babysitting, although I'm not complaining. The purpose is for us to help with someones sick child so that they can work and know their child is in good hands. I enjoy that part the most. I also enjoy some of the clients I get to teach. I feel like am making a difference Management is not the best but they do have A LOT to keep up with and sometimes they lose track, that's why its good to keep in contact with them weekly. My current coworkers are amazing. I struggled with the company at first but the people I am with now are really helping me blossom into a better nurse, and I am grateful. Really the hardest part are the hours sometime. Your hours are set by the clients family. If the need from 3am to 3 pm, well that is what you do. Sometimes it is consistent sometimes its not.

I worked for Oxford Healthcare out of Tupelo/Starkville Mississippi. The managment in both offices are horrible. The are very unprofessional and rude. They dont care about the patients they want you to work like a slave for nine dollars a hour. They put you in bad situations like with wild dogs and angry people. The regional manager is rude, and unprofessional. The office personal are rude also calling your phone yelling.You travel with no miles and you have to travel many miles with no mileage. They make you pay 50.00 for a background check they never send off. They dont drug test and I have personally seen personal smoking and drinking while I drop my timesheets off on the weekend it is ashame. I would never want to work for this company again. They suspend people for not having on the uniform they provided but it took 2 months to get the uniform. Other employees who are friends have did worst things like sex on the job with patients family members,stealing time, and doing drugs.

This company is run crazy. They don't care about the employee or patient. As long as they're getting paid, they don't care. You will get called 2 hours before a 12 hour night shift asking if you can be at work in 2 hours (with no warning and no sleep). After you get the job, you're never informed about the patients. No history of what's going on. You will only know the address and phone number. Then they will call and ask you to stay over sometimes 4 hours. Also, they ask their RNs to cover LPN positions and will only pay RNs $17/hr. It was so stressful. Getting called at 2 AM to be asked if you could be able to work at 6 AM that morning. Then you get no training whatsoever. Maybe 3 hours and you're on your own. The people assigning the cases are not even nurses so they don't have a clue and don't care about the nurse or patient. So, glad I got away from this job. Oh, and did I mention you have absolutely no benefits.

Cared for skilled clients over 8 hour shifts. Clients are the best part of the job normally. I am the type of nurse that feels that clients' needs come first. There is a severe lack of communication/management in this company. Constant Drama in the Office leads to drama in the field. Every "problem" is handled in a personal manner instead of a professional manner. Workers are asked to lie on paperwork, are not reimbursed for mileage, and nurses are refused overtime pay (even if overtime hours are worked). The only reason I stayed as long as I did was because I care for my client. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone.
