If you require only part time work PICS is a great place to work! 

Typical day begins anywhere from 3am to 6am and lasts roughly until 11am to 3pm depending on whether or not it's a local or travel store, type of store and combined team counts per hour working that inventory.

I've learned how to be far more proficient on a 10-key device, to always be constantly moving without exception for the entire shift and still be comfortable and I've met some really fun people!

The management is fantastic! They're sensitive to their teams' needs and are always willing to work with you on scheduling and pretty much anything else too.

The culture is a tight-knit group of around 30 people who all work well together, love to move fast for long periods of time and are extremely accurate. They are fun-loving and generally pretty happy and they pride themselves on working together as a team - helping anyone anytime, anywhere.

The hardest part of the job is getting up at usually anywhere from 1am to 4am. But the reward is much better when you're done with your workday before most people even have a lunch break at their job.

The most enjoyable part of the job (for me) is the travel. My team and I have so much fun, laughing, teasing, and joking. The best place to do that is when there is a travel store and you're stuck in a company vehicle for usually at least an hour and a half to sometimes even out of state and back. Plus, if are able, you get to sleep during travel...and you get paid for it!!!

I worked for PICS inventory for a while, for an auditor position. The job itself is easy - just need to count the products at the markets and put the information in the machine. The supervisor is friendly, and I didn't have problems with my colleagues. But they don't have any kind of career path to follow and they don't even have any kind of procedures on what is expected for you to exceed in this job. To make the things worse, you need to wake up early - sometimes 3:00 in the morning - just to travel to the job sites. You also need to bend, remove cold merchandise from freezers - don't apply if you have problems in your knees or can't climb on ladders. The pay is low, and the problem is that they only pay you miles driven if the location is far away 30 miles from the central office.And of course, if you need to travel, you need to drive to the central office first to get in the van. But most of the time, you need to drive to the store locations, and you spend much money on gas and maintenance in your car. The start wage is US$ 10,00 an hour in Atlanta area, that is good for this type of job - the problem is the costs of gas and maintenance of the car. It ended up on average of 6 to 8 dollars an hour. This means that the turnover of the company is very high. People spend only one month working in this company. The longest Auditor that I met worked for 4 months. So, for a part-time job (20 hours a week) is not a good job to go. Better to work in a restaurant or do another part-time job.

This was a good job for me to start, but I would not recommend it long term. You travel to a different store every day you work, so the commute is unpredictable and often long. The work itself was OK (and it does pay above average), but it became stressful pretty quickly. You are payed based on speed, but certain aisles are easier to do quickly. The aisles I did were always pre-assigned, so it wasn't a fair assessment, and it leaves no room to advance.

Management was great when I started but took a turn for the worse when I left. When I started, I would have one store per say, and they were almost always in the same city, and the occasional store over one hour away from the home site would include paid travel time (minimum wage unless you signed up to be the driver). When I left, I was being scheduled for 2-3 stores a day all over the city. In addition, there were some out of state jobs (Indiana and Pittsburgh for example) that entailed meeting at the site at 2 or 3 AM, working, and driving back on the same day. This was being done to save on hotel expenses and was incredible exhausting. They were also scheduling fewer people per store and having us work a few hours at more than one store as opposed to the usual 6 hour day at one store. It became impossible to keep up.


The pay normally starts out around 12 an hour, don't expect raises. I worked there for 4 years and got a 1.50 raise in between that time, mind you I was one of the top performers in the district, showed up when scheduled, and had 10 years of experience.

The job is extremely fast paced and the day goes quickly. You are required to count, use archaic inventory equipment, travel long distances up to 30 miles without compensation, go up and down ladders, and work randomized hours and variable shifts, and very little down time is allowed. Emails will be received from the District Manager informing you that you are not to go the bathroom on the time clock and writing people up for being under performance expectations despite that being due to lack of sleep (no sleep at all-a couple hours before next shift) because of under staffing events. You do not get breaks unless you work 8 hours, and then you will be required to take a 30 minute unpaid break. The hours can be extremely long and you have no idea of knowing exactly how long your shift will be and reprimanded if you leave early, even if it is due to the company under-staffing the inventory.

PICS is a good company for what it is. They pay more, are managed better, and seem to be a better company overall than their competitors. The work is literally just counting which is usually super easy and painless unless the store is disorganized but in that case you can refuse to count an area until an employee of the store gets it into acceptable condition. Management is super dependent on what city you work in. When I started I didn't like my manager much but she wasn't the worst, the guy who runs it now is great, if you travel to other regions you will see some great managers and some pretty bad ones as well. The hours will vary which is good if you work another job because you can work only the night stores or only the day stores but not great if you only work here because your schedule is constantly changing. The biggest downsides are there are no benefits and you will never have a consistent income because some weeks you'll be working every day and getting overtime and other weeks you won't have a single store. Overall, I think this is a great second job but it was really rough when it was my only job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unreasonable expectations pertaining to PATS, PICS focus shifts and is not consistent, finding good employees, awful culture.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
This is one of the reasons why I left. Very negative and constant nonsense.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wake up 2-4am daily if there is an inventory to make sure the team is at the location. It is required to have a minimum of 25 hours of in-store inventory time weekly. This is not a 40 hour a week job, but about 55-60 hours. Work PATS (hiring) create schedules, handle employee issues, charge equipment. There is not an office, so you constantly have to meet with your team to exchange equipment  since this district does not have enough equipment. You are not compensated for your travel/gas unless it is a meet-site location so a major out-of-pocket expense since you drive a ton.

Teams would depend on the size of the store that was being audited. Auditing hours were anywhere from 10 p.m. till around 5 a.m. Work was about focus and consistency. Time management was a must. Teams had a certain amount of time to finish a store while maintaining a 95% accuracy per specialist. I learned how to work through the long hours of the early morning and hold a fast pace. Competition among the specialist helped drive teams to finish stores early at points. Managers were very friendly and open with their employees. They knew the strengths and weaknesses of their teams, placing specialists in the right place so each store would be finished on time. The hardest part of the job was to remain driven and not dull out in the 5th and 6th hour of counting thousands and thousands of product. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing all the store locations after hours empty and lifeless. Also hearing the clicking of calculator machines.

We would start working during the morning and normally were all organized and even for being at work rather early everyone kept a positive attitude and worked effectively and diligently. We rarely ran into discrepancies, how ever when we did it was quickly adjusted. I learned how to manage my time and be quick on my feet and on my thoughts, my social skills only excelled and I soon learned what it was like to lead a team. My managers were understanding and boosted my confidence quite a bit. While some Co-workers were a bit rough around the edges everyone kept each other motivated and would help you if you needed it. The hardest part of the job was simply when our customers didn't prepare their stores properly; how ever we got by. I enjoyed the job personally because, I was taught so much and everyone brought out the best person I could be and that was something I could appreciate daily.

Given a great chance to advance.  Loved the work but I found the people I work with don't have much of a sense of team work and have no work ethic.  The coworkers would call out for being drunk the night before, or call out when pay day occurred and would often make excuses and then call in and make an excuse and then get mad when the area manager or district manager wrote them up.  The hours were great in that I would go in early and get off at a good time.  I learned that young people today have no work ethic and are only interested in themselves and don't care about others.  The area manager was great and the district manager was tough but fair.  They both were willing to work with you as long as you worked with them in the boundries that the company set.  The hardest part of the job was the 2 a.m. wakeups.  The most enjoyable part was getting our evaluations and seeing that the stores appreciated what we did.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I was able to traveling see parts of Louisiana Arkansas and Mississippi that I had never seen before. If you like travel this is a really good job for you.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having to seemingly compete and the pressure to have count numbers that sometimes seem unrealistic to someone who's never really done it before. It's almost like they want you to be in the same range as people who've done it way longer than you and if you don't get those numbers that cut your schedule and terminate your employment. Also the wear and tear on your body from getting on your knees continuously and the leaning to be able to see the merchandise takes a toll on your body. Even with knee pads my body still felt the effects of continuing pressure on my knees.
