I worked in the pharmacy at Whittier as a full time pharmacy tech. I was described as a very task oriented, great attendance/always in time, and a friendly worker. It is a great place to work. Excellent flexable schedule, majority of coworkers/staff are nice (with the exception of few), and good vibe in the working environment. 

The reason why I give PIH 3 stars is because of how poor management is. The manager (as opposed to the supervisor who was actually great) seems to lack communication between coworkers as she would usually isolate herself in her office and speak productively only to the most important people like director and supervisor while ignoring the majority of pharmacy techs. The only time she would speak with them is when it comes to a probation review (usually 3 months after working) or you have made a consistent error throughout the shift. 

In addition to that, rather than calling you and warning you about a small consistent error you honestly weren't aware of, you have a higher chance of getting fired unexpectedly without warning. That is what happened to me. Rather than being open about it and giving me at least a warning for something I was honestly completely unaware of, they decided to give me the boot for something I really thought I was performing well throughout those 8 months. I understand it's a hospital and how patient safety is a top priority, but how can one ensure patient safety if management does not even bother to let you know in the first place until you have made enough to possibly get fired? 

For this reason I cannot recommend to work for PIH pharmacy. Unless you want to work there and hope to yourself that you aren't making mistakes, you're better of working somewhere else where management will be kind enough to highlight the errors you have been committing rather than being quiet about till the end and giving you the boot without warning.

The company values documentation and reimbursement rates over patient outcomes. First, the orientation phase is lack-luster. Majority of the time was spent on reviewing fundamental nursing skills- vital signs, managing tubes and lines. The case management role is heavily involved with exceeding CMS guidelines. The nurses were so heavily involved in patient home visits that the documentation was never fully explained. Expect to receive countless emails regarding incomplete documentation. Also expect to have the supervisors undermine your knowledge and skillset immediately. There were numerous times in which the supervisor stated "you dont need to know that" when reviewing incomplete documentation records. The organizational has zero structure in terms of innovation, accountability, and overall patient care. The case management role utilized hospital policy in which half the information was not applicable to the home health field. The nurse compensation structure did not meet the demands of the job. The job requirements outlined seeing 4-5 patients a day within an 8 hour time frame. The bare minimum was 6 most days and often exceed 10 patients. Expect to fight tooth and nail for any overtime, as it is nearly impossible to see 10 patients a day and document accordingly. Expect to never receive a lunch break and/or mandatory 15 minute breaks. Nurses choose to keep their "easy" patients and hand-off any patient that requires more than antibiotic infusions. There is no team work at this facility. Nurses choose to harass each other and management refuses to take action. PIH, this facility provides a great disservice to the surrounding community. Patients are forced to choose this establishment due to lack of secondary options. The overall structure of the system is downright laughable. Another case of health care professionals coming in to collect a paycheck and go home. 

Outdated electronic medical system that makes charting less efficient (most healthcare facilities are using EPIC), old dirty carpet in units (I have never seen carpet in hospital units), and overall not the nicest facility.

No incentive to work full-time as the healthcare benefits are very limiting, only offer one plan option. Hardly any paid holidays off and need to request holidays off and use PTO for other standard holidays that most other employers provide off with pay. 

Not a lot of emphasis on training/education as they don't offer full education days to attend day conferences. Again, would have to use PTO. 

Overall, management is not very experienced and Social Workers are heavily utilized to do discharge planning and not viewed as professionals who have more to offer than discharge planning. As as result, I do not find it to be a culture where social work is respected. 

Management will listen to feedback but there's no plan/effort to really try to take feedback and use it to create improvements. Inefficient staff scheduling which creates staff shortages and increases workloads.

While doctors and nurses are working hard to care for patients, SOME members of the executive sector under leadership of the juvenile President found time to indulge in games involving favoritism while subjugating their staffs to their personal unfetterefd idiosyncrasies. I initially liked my position. However, within one-month of my arrival, the head of the department was ousted, her highly competent assistant resigned and I was placed under supervision of a new manager who I quickly grew to respect. However, everything changed when I accepted an offer to transfer to another department. Unbeknownst to me, the department was headed by a woman who though accomplished, seemed quite incapable of disciplining her often-abhorrent behaviors. Though she was initially polite with me, she was horrendously abusive with her other staff. A friend of hers was also a member of her department and the two, for lack of a better word, bullied the other members of the team. I was relieved to leave the hospital. It was by far, one of the worst working experiences I've ever endured. During my brief stay, I did meet executives who seemed competent and professional however, the president and person I worked for and the heads of the Human Resources Department were devoid of all professional acumen.

Overall it 's an okay hospital to work .It's advantage is that it sits by it self and the other Little  Whittier Hospital is way to tiny to compete with PIH.I Had a really difficult  time working there.The two Technologist I worked  with were dating each other and worked the same shift "AWKWARD" .Not sure if management t or Human Resources were aware of it ,but it created a   very bad work Dynamic for the dept I worked in Cat Scan.So right off the bat I was never made to feel welcome  because of the dating situation of my co- workers.ONE WAS REALLY MEAN !!!!!!!! AND THE OTHER SHOWED UP LATE  10-30 MIN EVERY SHIFT FOR THE FIRST 3 MONTHS I WORKED THERE.  HE ONLY LIVED 2 MILES FROM THE HOSPITAL  .So I think the dept will continue to have constant turn over during the night shift because #1 There is no professionalism required of the staff #2 no one is ever held accountable for the things they do there .like showing up late every shift .As far as scanning goes it 's super easy .Its a very basic Cat Scan Dept .PIH  does Nothing complicated at all.It 's a Hospital for a New CT Grad or a Cat scan tech coming from a really tiny  Hospital.Good luck you will need it .

They take anyone to perform your position. Apparently anyone can do this job even if they’re not qualified or if they don’t have the appropriate qualifications at all. They don’t care about certifications. Certified or not, you don’t get paid fairly.  Overworked. Underpaid. When you were offered the position, the HR never gave you the opportunity to negotiate your salary. No communications. Even if you’ve tried to contact them to negotiate your salary prior to agreeing, they never responded to your calls or emails. Apparently those who don’t hold the certifications to do the job can still get higher pay than those who are truly certified. Injustice and inconsiderate. Also, whenever you’ve worked for a year or so, and you try to ask for a raise, your manager never approves it. They will always reject your raise request without giving a fair chance to even listen to your reasoning. They work you hard, but they don’t compensate you fairly. No wonder this company cannot retain their employees for very long. The turnaround rate is very high, and now you know why!

We are assigned to one provider. We see 25-30 people in a day. One assistant is required to keep up with federal and state measures for HMO, Medicare, and Medical patients. We are also responsible for referrals, medication management, phones, medication prior authorizations, patient complains and messages, rooming patients, discharging patients, all while keeping certain tasks at a min for requirements. We don't have any extra help. All of these tasks fall onto one medical assistant. Also, the manager has an open door policy, however, if you want people to know your business you might as well tell them yourself. Because the manager likes to tell everyone your business and adds extra to it. She also likes to tell other employees when you have problems with them and it causes a hostel environment. The manager also likes to tell other departments the issues that we have within our own department. She is constantly bringing people down and making them feel like they are worthless. The company itself is OK. I wish that the wages were more competitive. It has its pros and cons. Good benefits.

I’ve never had such issues with HR/payroll or such a disorganized onboarding process with any organization before. No orientation schedule was made prior to starting and no one even had a clue as to who the heck I was and I felt I kept needing to chase someone around for simple questions, such as when to work again, which floors I would orient to. Pandemic is no excuse as other hospitals I’ve traveled to at least knew what days to provide me for my first week of work. 

The positive, as with all other hospitals, is that there are a handful of friendly staff members there to help. And listen, every hospital will have their negatives, but I can honestly say that even those that were bad at least had some structure to it. If this is how unorganized they are with their workers, can’t even imagine how unorganized they must be with evidence-based practices and clinical approaches. Also, a lot more complaints about management here than I’ve heard from anywhere else. Too big of a disengagement between its staff. It’s a big no thanks from me. 

I've worked at this hospital for 10 years in the PACU dept. 12 hr shifts, FT, 3 days/wk. Including nocturnal call. The surgery department is growing and continues to get busier. Most days are busy, but manageable. My department is small (20 nurses on staff). Because we are small, I feel the education efforts are weak as management attempts to include us in classes that apply to floor nursing. Therefore, we are left on our own for updated information pertaining to our specialty. Co-workers are for the most part friendly and helpful. I have noticed compared to other hospitals that the staff here is more diverse than other hospitals that I have worked at. The pay is decent, but not the best in the area. Benefits are decent, but seem to be decreasing in quality every year. The hospital is maintained nicely and improvements to the facility and to the technology available to employees is improved constantly. Management is responsive to suggestions/complaints, and you do feel that you have a voice here.

Good Samaritan Hospital Downtown Los Angeles, was a very good place to work. On an average day I was able to interface with physicians, fellows, residents all with different personalities. It was a great learning experience for me. I had never worked in the medical field and it was very interesting and enlighting. Management was willing to work with you if there happen to be something special that needed attention. The hours were flexible to a degree. The hardest part of the job was the minutes from meetings and understanding the medical terms. But that was only for a time. So of the people I worked with have become some very good friends since my departure.
