Pace University offered me many opportunities to learn about the development field, build my professional experience and network with influential and successful alumni in the NYC area. 

A typical day of work included the daily scheduling of meetings and prospect visits for the VP of Development, reconciling business cards and travel expense forms for the office, organizing office team building activities and the daily prospect management in our development database. 

During my time at Pace I learned the importance of promptness and professionalism in the field of development and how important they are to effective fundraising. I also learned how to work as a team player, being a resource for training, assistance and guidance for the new members of our team. 

Management struggled to show investment in their employees and during my 2 years at Pace I saw much talent leave. Our office had an average of 1 person leave per month. In the 2 years I was there, 24 colleagues came and went. Much of this turnover was due to a feeling of being unappreciated and undervalued by management. 

My co-workers were all wonderful, hardworking and intelligent people. The most enjoyable part of my job was assisting my colleagues with projects large and small, and the natural team building effect this had.

The hardest part of my job was understanding the relationship between myself and our VP of Development, being her primary scheduling assistant, yet not having the access to her that I needed to guide me in making decisions. I was forced to field questions with my direct supervisor, the Operations Manager, and ask for her judgement. This was an obstacle that I had learned to manage, but which was a constant source of quite frustration for myself.

I work part-time as a Standardized Patient with Pace University, at their lower Manhattan campus as well as in Pleasantville, NY (Westchester County). I was hired in fall of 2012 to help train medical students by acting in various kinds of scenarios. I may portray a mother or other relative of a patient who I feel is not being properly taken care of; or I may be asked to present one more symptoms that the student must then try to diagnose; or I could just be a "warm body" that is used to test students' knowledge of the proper steps for, say, a general neurological exam.
I have learned to appreciate more fully the standards that medical students must strive to meet, and the extreme volume of information that they must learn and retain in their training. 
The hardest part of the job is remaining patient (no pun intended!) during full days when I am undergoing repeated exams, which tend to start feeling rote and slow as the day goes on.
The most enjoyable part of the job, aside from knowing that I am helping to prepare tomorrow's health professionals, is the very pleasant, supportive vibe among the staff and my fellow actors.
The pay level is reasonable, and I find this a very amenable way to earn part-time income. 
My only real complaint is that through no fault of Pace, the months of work are essentially limited to the academic semesters, so there are gaps in which work is not available.

The university is struggling financially, so job security is essentially nonexistent. I got the feeling that leadership does not care about the staff. Benefits have been cut. Hiring freezes are in place for most positions. They are not fixing things like broken air conditioning in the middle of the summer in multiple buildings. In my experience, having your voice heard when it comes to decision-making or basic needs at work is next to impossible. 

After a round of layoffs, leadership in my division told me to "get used to it" when I mentioned lacking support and having a doubled workload. There is also a lot of interpersonal drama within the staff, and no one gets held accountable for mistakes or intentionally harmful behavior toward students or other staff members. 

On a positive note, the student body is mostly talented, creative, and bright. They were incredibly rewarding to work with. It is hard to work here, though, when not everyone seems to genuinely care about the students, especially when you meet them and see how incredible they are. 

.I worked in the Education Media and Computer Lab in the White Plains Campus. Some things were routine, however when dealing with different people and personalities can be challenging. As well as working with technology. However having a strong team and supportive supervisors go a long way. I truly learned a lot during the two years I worked there. My supervisor made sure all of his workers were thoroughly trained, so that they will operate with excellence. Also he really pushed us to learn more, he encouraged us to learn all of the latest software and programs that were released not only to help us with day to day functions and make life easier but to prepare us for the future and give us a unique advantage when we would apply to jobs after we graduated. I would say they is the best boss I have ever worked for to date.  They always pushed me to achieve greater. They were stern when necessary, but always respectful and I truly felt that there was always an open line of communication, which is crucial in any working environment. The excellent management made for a wonderful working environment of staff working towards one common goal.

Every day begins with unknown challenges. Being the front line for troubleshooting and problem solving does make each day interesting, challenging and gratifying. Patience, taking it slow, being consistent, always looking for more avenues to find answers and information is an ongoing commitment and goal. 

My coworkers dedication, loyalty, attention to detail are attributes that stem from all and continue to inspire each one of us to always be prevalent, strong and effective in our responsibility and obligation.

With the many successes, there are also the drawbacks that can make it difficult to achieve the desired outcome to its full capacity. The hardest part of the job is when a goal cannot be met due to financial constraints.  Budget cuts are a reality.

The most wonderful part of my job is watching the students achieve their degree, their goals and their desires, and the gratification, pride and joy from all of us enjoying in our successful efforts which played an essential part in the university's success to fulfill its mission.

In my three and a half years working for Pace Housing, I worked under two different managers. The first one was less than likable but the second manager was a gentle, personable leader. I've always loved my job, regardless of the supervisor in charge but the last two and a half years were definitely more enjoyable for me with the newer manager. I tend to enjoy personal human interaction so work was almost always fun for me; though all my interactions weren't personal, it wasn't a hard place to make friends and constantly meet new beautiful souls. Coworkers were hit or miss, some were great people, with whom I still keep in touch, and some I wish I had never met. I think the hardest part of my job was drawing that line between being warm, welcoming and friendly but also reinforcing policy. I always looked forward to going to work though, I wouldn't trade this experience for much. It helped me set a standard for myself so that moving forward, I only apply to jobs that I know I would love because the past 3 years I was happy.

Like any didactic year physician assistant student, I was nervous to begin rotations during my clinical year.  However once I began, I was relieved to find that I felt completely prepared.  The Pace University Physician Assistant Program is run by a collection of full time and adjunct professors that are well versed in their fields and passionate about teaching.  They provided me with the tools necessary to conduct an appropriate and thorough history and physical exam, perform procedures such as suturing, starting IV lines/blood draws, splinting, etc., as well as determining which diagnostic and laboratory tests to order for my differential diagnoses and developing a management plan for the patient that includes not only the patients'  immediate needs, but also their possible needs in the near or more distant future.  Overall, I am very happy with the quality of education that I received to earn my Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Pace University!

My experience at Pace University was both rewarding and transformative. As an adult learner, I appreciated the university’s commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and at different stages of their educational journeys. The professors were knowledgeable, approachable, and often brought real-world experience into the classroom. I also valued the opportunities for networking, internships, career development, and student engagement, which helped me grow professionally and personally. Pace offers a strong connection to New York City, giving students access to industries, employers, and experiences that can be difficult to find elsewhere. Like any institution, there is room for improvement regarding communication and administrative processes, but overall, my experience was positive. Earning my degree from Pace was an accomplishment I am proud of, and it provided me with skills, confidence, and experiences that I will carry throughout my career and future endeavors.

I've been at Pace for 7 years and I personally love it-the classrooms are modern, the students are generally pleasant and very "real", and my colleagues are very friendly and dedicated, but sadly, they are overworked As with every university, adjunct faculty are under-valued. We teach 80% of the classes, but we are not given health benefits and we are not paid for office hours to meet with students. We are paid at least half of what full-timers make to teach the same classes, and we have to teach many classes at many schools just to make a living. We have a lot of prep work for each class, we teach and then we have work to take home to grade-it never ends.

I was able to set my own hours and work from home. A lot was accomplished remotely. Once a month, I met with the Executive Director and the Board. The hardest part of the job was trying to find                   supporters of the Center for Literacy Enrichment. While under the umbrella of the School of Education, the Center is a non-profit organization with scarce resources. The most enjoyable part of the job was writing a compelling story about the Center's mission and goals--to teach children and young adults how to read. When like-minded organizations and individuals responded favorably to our request for funding, my coworkers and I were joyous.
