Job Work/Work Life balance: the amount of work that is expected to be done is unrealistic in a 40 hour work week. We were often having to work with less than adequate amount staff and with a huge lack of resources within the building.The lack of good leadership led to additional burdens being placed on every department. Lack of proper and effective training due to extensive turn over, lack of knowledge, and lack of follow through has created an environment of employees who only half way know what they're doing regardless of how good or bad of an employee they are. Often you are playing catch up and unable to truly do what is best for the patients. All of the above leads to terrible work/life balance, 8 hours days easily turned into 10 hour days and was not odd to receive a phone call after hours or on weekends frequently either. Taking a day off during the week was often regrettable due to the amount of work you would have to catch up on when you came back.

Compensation/Benefits: Benefits are fine, not the best and not the worst, and affordable. Compensation would be fine as well if it wasn't for all the extra hours of work we were often putting in. 

Job Security/Advancement: Although I never personally experienced this, I did notice that this company has no issue letting people go. Turn over, especially in management, is insane. In my opinion I'd say there is room for advancement if you truly seek it.

Management: As stated previously, HUGE turn over in management. Also the management I did experience was very sub par. Unfortunately, I felt a lack of support and lack of trust. I often felt as if I was being micro-managed by management who, in my opinion, did not always know what the best choices were themselves. Meetings felt redundant at times and when I would communicate issues it would often fall on deaf ears, even if it was a concern that required priority. 

Job Culture: This company speaks of and preaches an excellent culture and if it were practiced it would be great, unfortunately that is not the case. In all honesty, this place is all about money. There is no balance between patient care/satisfaction and financial profit. I felt that at times choices were made that were not in the best interest of patients or employees but since helped save money or make money that the choice that was chosen. There is a huge lack of support from leadership, most of them never take time to step out into the hospital and spend time with staff to figure out what's going well and what's not to work towards improvement. There were some members of leadership that would avoid speaking with patients and families if they could get away with it.

I am writing to make a formal complaint against PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Beaumont, Tx. My/our complaint is that they have failed to provide us with satisfactory service when they under staff us on a daily basis. Nurses have seven patients each and sometimes the charge nurse will have 3-4 patients while also charging and handling discharges which takes away quality care. When a nurse is able to have five patient each: we are able to provide a better patient assessment, catch problems before the occur, help with the CNA’s, less medication errors, follow up on efficiently on medications given routine and PRN, help with wound care, answer call lights more without feeling like we have to pick between passing medications and charting. There is a high turnover rate at this location and it's due to nurses feeling burnt out and not heard. When asked to come in for an extra shift knowing already we will have inadequate staffing, working in a high-stress work environment, excessive workloads (seven patients): Patient-to-Nurse Ratios Are High. Nurses are offered only a $120 bonus which is not even close to the cost the hospital would be paying for an additional person.  A much better use of the capital would be to improve working conditions so that there was enough staff employed. Then the facility wouldn't always be scrambling for more help, if help is needed to pay more making the staff feel valued for such hard work. Nurses have to be the CNA’s, the sitters, doctors, kitchen staff, wound care, and more all in one shift also having to keep running to the confused patient room making sure he/she doesnt get out of bed.

Our CNA’s are staffed at two per shift when really we need three to thrive at great patient care: actual making each patient bed in the morning and having it looks presentable, helping the with oral hygiene after meals, dressing patients for therapy, getting to the call light and or safety alarm in timely manner preventing falls, being able to adequately report to the nurse in a timely manner a patient's status, efficient incontinence care resulting in less skin breakdown and also reducing patient complaint and being able to document information/charting.:Patient-to-Aide Ratios Are High. Cna’s are offered only a $60 bonus which is not even close to the cost the hospital would be paying for an additional person.  A much better use of the capital would be to improve working conditions so that there was enough staff employed.

Call-In’s/late : Our staff has to work as a team and we all get that life happens, however when call-ins by the same person happens frequently, it puts a strain on the whole staff. Also being late, staff should be at work 15 minutes early. 




A typical day at work is walking into either a freezer or a furnace depending on the season. Freezing if it is winter. The building is in disarray. Temporary A/Cs vented in from the ceiling and sitting on the floor. ceiling tiles falling down along with the large vented hoses. Evening shift has to empty the water condensation tanks. No hot water in the rooms. The sewer bubbles up in the shower drain. Toilets don't flush. Med room is a freezer! The unit/Hospital is the only occupants of the entire building. Transient/homeless come in and out of the building and sometimes stay in the empty floors/rooms. You as an employee have to park on the 3 floor and above in the parking garage or you will be towed. 
Taking report from a nurse with an attitude. Taking 4-7 patients,(vent, trach, critical drips). If you are taking 4-5 patients, you will probably get an admission. You will have no help - it is every man for himself! 
A Safe Harbor Nightmare!  
Management is non-existent. When signing on, you are a work machine. No work-life balance, they OWN you. They will schedule you to work all night and then go to class till 5 pm the next day. 
The culture is very hostile, and that includes management. I have never worked, in all my years as a nurse, for such a horrible place.
Training is mediocre at best. Hostile would be more appropriate. They don't have time to train you. They don't want to train you.  
Upon receiving my resignation letter, Manager never responded. The mentality is "They come and they go. There will be another to replace you." 
They then changed my schedule on my last week I was to work - working me right up to the day after my last day. When notifying them of this over site - that this would not work for me, they told me too bad. Even though there was no reason for this. 
The bonus I was suppose to get after 90 days, they refused to issue. They also kept the PTO accrued. 
Insurance is also horrible. You can't call in sick even if you are in the hospital, manager will want to know when you will be released so you can get back to work. If you are not in the hospital, management will tell you that even though you are sick, you have to come to work. They did not schedule enough people, 4 nurses - 19 patients! 
 It is not about patient care or about happy employees - its all about money.

If you are Salary, they own you with no flexibility, you will work 8-5 with no flexing hours and also have to work outside of work hours as well. The only thing I learned  from this place was PTSD and what a true toxic work environment looks like. It was an abusive work relationship but you keep going back because they pay well. 

Work place culture: is suffocating, manipulative, micromanagement when management has literally no idea what they are doing, two faced, undermining, toxic, passive aggressive, pits coworkers/departments against each other, the list can go on

Management at the facility was a micro management nightmare. Management was do as I say and not as I do. Needing to call in sick? Will ask signs and symptoms to make sure it’s legit and what you think you might have and if it’s not good enough will nudge you to take PTO vs sick day UNLESS when the manager is “sick” or the favored coworker(s) is “sick” will then take an entire week off. 
Need to work from home because your kid is sick(even if you have the capacity to work a few hours at home and still can manage and complete your work)? Will have to battle and negotiate with manager to work from home and will also get asked “Can’t your significant other just take care of your kid?” 

Need to take PTO? Good luck!

Hardest part of the job is working with management and having the patience to get through the day working with them. 

Most enjoyable about the job, my immediate co-workers and the end of the day and weekend that I don’t have to work.

PAM El Paso boasts a prime example of a toxic work culture, marred by micro-management, belittling leadership, and punitive measures for expressing dissatisfaction. Employees are subjected to a relentless cycle of overwork, with little to no consideration for work-life balance.

From the moment one steps into the office, it's apparent that morale is at an all-time low. Micromanagement is the norm, stifling any sense of autonomy or creativity among employees. Leaders resort to belittling tactics, creating an atmosphere of fear rather than one of collaboration and support.

Expressions of discontent are met with write-ups, further exacerbating the oppressive atmosphere. Rather than addressing underlying issues, management opts to penalize those who dare to voice their concerns, effectively silencing any hope for positive change.

Compensation fails to reflect the immense workload thrust upon employees, rendering it wholly inadequate. PAM's idea of rewarding exceptional performance? Not with a promotion, bonus, or increased independence, but with even more tasks piled onto already overburdened shoulders.

In essence, PAM El Paso is a breeding ground for dissatisfaction and burnout. It's a place where employees are treated as expendable resources rather than valued team members. Until fundamental changes are made to address these systemic issues, PAM El Paso will continue to hemorrhage talent and perpetuate its toxic work culture. Prospective employees beware: this is a workplace where your well-being and professional growth take a backseat to corporate profit margins.

Leadership has enabled the staff to create and sustain a work environment filled with lateral violence in which foul language, poor work ethics and subpar practice, and unprofessional callous behavior is the norm.  To be appointed in supervisory positions based on fraternal brown nosing and not on quality experience and higher educations with related credentials.  The company has yet to upgrade to computer charting and therefore leaves tremendous room for error, delay of care, and poor patient outcomes given the fact paper charting is still in practice, one in which medicare has forbidden its usage.  There lies a fault finding culture as opposed to root cause analysis for any situation in which most of the staff refuse to take accountability for their actions or lack thereof.  Turnover rate is approximately 70% including management.  Physicians and practitioners with the poorest reputations practice here and do in fact yell and intimidate the staff with their arrogant and pompous behavior, and will place blame on the nurses despite their orders being highly questionable, vague, and at times unethical.  Any type of ethical and moralistic stand the nurse evokes is met by the label of nuisance and your position will be ended in their many forms of retaliation. Medication error is habitual given the absence of computer scanning. I do not recommend this place for new graduates, nor for those who wish to build their resume towards highly specialized areas.  This is a general unit with outdated practice with low moral and poor authoritarian leadership. Protect your license!

Due to the lack of  corp HR correcting the behavior of the CEO I had no option but to resign. This CEO's paranoid type behavior was exhausting to all managers in the facility. He could not be believed when he demanded staff to do what CORP wanted for it was proved numerous times that Corp was not even involved with event. The physicians did not agree with the way he conducted business within the facility. His behavior of raising his voice yelling at employees went on without any interventions along with shaking his finger in your face. I witnessed numerous times that he would yell and or raise his voice at employees. When the CEO was made aware of any discussions held with HR Corp he would retaliate against the employee using the process to call the hotline. The patient care is and will continue to be less due to his desire to cut nursing costs daily. There has been numerous Directors/Managers resign from the facility due to the CEO's behavior.  These Directors provided written reasons for their resignation but still no action was taken. It is my understanding that this CEO was terminated from previous positions for this like type behavior. It is disheartening that the company would allow this to continue since the community and patients would be served with a properly ran facility. I have been contacted by numerous employees to be a job reference for them to change employment.

This company is antiquated, at least 20 years behind with technology. Paper charting leaves a lot of room for errors. They can't keep help at PAM. Few people stay more than a few months. Toxic environment. Advancement opportunities are only for a chosen few who are friendly with management. Supplies are in short demand ie: bring your own N95 masks & bleach wipes. Soap & hand sanitizer dispensers are often empty. Communication is horrible. You're basically on your own to figure things out. It's a perfect environment for lazy people because no one in management is paying attention. But if you're a conscientious worker who respects rules, this is not the place for you. It's a disorganized mess. The only time management steps up is when a regulatory agency is in the building, other than that, they're invisible. Also, English is not the primary language spoken at PAM. It's frustrating and frightening for patients, families & co-workers who do not understand or speak the language. Especially in times of crisis, like during a code. All in all, I did not find this place to be a professional environment in any way. From day one until my last day when I gave a 2 wk notice and was told by manager to "leave now". This is just the kind of place it is. No respect or professionalism and a lot of miserable staff. The best part of the experience was getting out of there. I feel bad for the patients though.

This company has some of the hardest working, most dedicated Nurses, aides, and doctors you’ll ever work with.... Management is the downfall of this place- the turnover at all levels is out of this world because of their inability to listen to their staff. It is an act of Congress to get patients to the appropriate level of care, even if they are deteriorating. Patients with appointments? NOPE- every one has to be approved by the CEO and most are turned down. Nurses take 1:8. Often with 1 aide for 20+ patients. I won’t be surprised if the ratio increases 1:10. The patients haven’t been rehab appropriate for quite some time now. They’re medical surgical, SNF, and LTACH patients alllll day. If wound care is overwhelmed- you are expected to perform all wound care. On top of transferring max assist patients. Feeding total cares. Charting- ON PAPER. Passing your meds, IV antibiotics, showers. Even the best nurses struggle with time management because they have successfully created a toxic work environment for everyone to try and work in. Falls, falls, falls. rapid responses sprinkled with some codes. Protect your license and pride && take a job elsewhere. Staff is leaving in droves and will continue to do so until changes are made. Management needs to wake up. Your staff are utterly miserable.. What will happen when there’s no one left?
