The benefits of working with and helping kids is the only reason to work here. But this is overshadowed by the fact the company focus and goal seems to be on making money off of the kids rather than helping them. It is an overly stressful work environment with long hours and often time little help. The staff are a good group of people but the morale of the place is so low that it's normal for the default conversation to be how bad they hate it there and didn't want to come to work that day. Some of the children brought into the program are not capable of doing the program which adds more stress on the staff to figure out how to handle the situations the child brings with them. Due to the staff number always being very low it is plenty of opportunities for overtime but sometime overtime is forced on you and management treats your off days as if they are optional.

The company itself is lost. They think they're moving forward but management has been doing things their way for so long that anything new is a threat. They preach about communication when communication is managements issue. The whole company rides on poor innocent children and their need for placement in this world. Most of the time the kids do not get the help or treatment they need they're basically just dollar signs. The staff is so underpaid that they can hardly keep people half the time and the people they do keep are so far over the job their work shows it. The culture is horrible you have people that know people that know people in the surrounding area and it's nothing but a huge cover up most of the time. This company is not worth the time and effort it takes for the pay they pay. 

Cons:  The management and morale at Pathway is terrible.  The work we do is worth a whole lot more than we're paid or recognized for.  They expect us to sit around on our off day and wait to see if they'll call us or not.  Sometimes they've changed the schedule at the last minute, and expected us to drop everything and be on our post on time, even if we didn't previously know about the change.  From what I've heard from night shift co-workers, they informed them that they had to come in and/or find their own relief if they called in sick; this is a double standard that is not done to us day shift workers.

Pros:  The only thing that I've found satisfying about Pathway is teaching the youths about life, and seeing some of them leave better than when they arrived.

Best part of my job was positively impacting troubled youth lives. Job duties are straightforward; assessments , individual & group therapy, discharge planning. However the incompetent & rude management/administration makes this job insufferable. There is no sense of comradery; just small clicks, drama, & gossip.  They show obvious favoritism & get rid of the staff that are brave enough to stand up for themselves. This job is emotionally and mentally exhausting & sadly the work culture here is just not worth the added stress. 

Easy employment, a little heavy on the paper work. I’m not sure if they pay well or not but considering minimum wage in California, the wage shouldn’t be too bad. If you like working for great people, working with those with special needs, enjoy a rewarding experience, and care about the community you live in this should be a good fit. The number one draw back is the parents of the consumers you work with. The main goal can get convoluted, and while the focus is supposedly be on the Consumer, it is not always that way. 

The job has great flexibility and understanding of things that may come up from time to time. While the pay for group leaders may not be as great as working at other places, coming to work knowing you are making a difference in the client lives is 100% worth it. Promotions are easy to get, the shifts are not bad 90% of the time (everyone has bad days). If you want to do anything dealing with psychology or teaching, being a group leader is a great place to start getting hands on experience on how to handle different types of behaviors. 

I am so happy here! Pathway is where I wanted to be a long time ago, and the opportunity finally came. Worked here for a while, and if I get my way, I’ll retire from here some day. 

There are a few minor things that make this job hard to like sometimes, such as the pace and amount of the work, however aside from those issues, which are to be expected in this field, this is one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.

I worked with adults with mental disabilities. teaching them to live independently in their communities, obtain and keep jobs. I also taught basic life skills, cooking, paying bills on time, grocery shopping, making a list, sticking to a budget, how to keep house, and community involvement. Hardest part of this job was clients who did not comply to their duties, most enjoyable was seeing the accomplishments made and goals met by clients.

This is a great, fast paced environment with innovative thinkers and exciting opportunities to help those in need. The dedication and passion it takes to be effective in this kind of business is what makes the role so intense.  This is not an environment for someone who isn't completely committed. It takes a sharp attention to detail and adherence to deadlines to be successful.

The Director needs hearing aids. He’s basically making everyone lack communication due to his ability to hear. He’s always priding himself to communicate but he will rush you out his office without even listening to the issue. 
The manager is more worried about her personal life then dealing with the core issues of the agency. She delegates all her work to everyone else to deal with her personal life instead.
