Peak Behavioral Health

As a therapist, a day at Peak begins at 8a and ends at 5p, with an hour for lunch. One’s schedule varies depending on the populations one works with, e.g. inpatient or outpatient, veterans or the justice system, etc. The quality of therapists at Peak are, overall, notably high. The reason for this is Peak helps to certify therapists in various treatment modalities, as per the individual therapist’s clinical interests, (e.g.  EMDR; CBT; DBT: Gestalt, etc.)  I can’t speak for other programs within Peak, but my program director’s positive attitude goes a long way toward making work joyful. As for the perks of working at Peak, therapists in our division receive  their own office, and a choice of free lunch. The only con to working at Peak is that it tends to work more in  paper (a la the 1990s) than by computer at this point, but there’s open talk of this changing as soon as this year.

The client's were incredible to work with in the inpatient residential setting.  The training was lacking and much of it was in the grey area as policies were in the midst of being modified and changed while I was employed there.  Communication could have been improved to streamline services and make the work environment less tense and confusing.  Overall, the employees were friendly and I loved working at the Peak.  Management is quite over worked and understaffed most of the time, however, this did not seem to compromise patient care whatsoever (which is a major plus).  The hardest part of the job for me was having to turn in my notice and leave the Peak due to moving out of the area.  The mental health environment is not for everyone, however, if this is your area of interest or expertise, I would highly recommend applying at this facility!

A typical day as a Utilization Review Specialist is reviewing assigned admissions and continued stays to obtain authorizations.  I have learned to coordinate and monitor utilization review/management activities of the hospital. My supervisor and my co-workers make the work environment enjoyable and fun because of teamwork. The hardest part of the job is getting authorization denials because you don't want your patient to have a financial burden after discharging from the facility. The most enjoyable part of the job is helping patients get the mental health treatment they deserve without them worrying about how they are going to pay for their stay after they have discharged from the hospital.

Peak Behavioral Health is a for profit, private, health care provider that places the number of beds filled at the hospital over the quality of patient care. As part of middle management, being a program coordinator, I can say first hand many of the high level management employees (i.e. directors, chiefs, executives), had very different perspectives on how issues should be addressed. This led to many power struggles within the hospital, ultimately leading to 3 different CEO's over the course of the 2 years I worked there. The turn-over rate for all positions was the most I had seen in any work environment and I can personally say I am happy I was able to leave without any issues and on my own terms.

My work day begins with a report of the  behaviors from the patients. 
Allow myself to prepare  for my shift. The organization has a great work environment pricing support to keep the staff and patients safe. 
The hardest part of my job is the patients not having a home to go too.  Our specialized staff members collaborate  together to find the best  possible placement.  The most enjoyable part of my job are my coworkers. The CEO has a great personality therefore creating a positive work environment. 

Horrible place to work when it comes to the MHT position. You’re constantly undervalued and are considered easily replaceable by management staff. They hire most incoming MHT  staff as PRN so they get away with making you work 16 hour days + no days off during the week. The only way to make money here is by working at least 60 hours a week (& working weekends). Not to mention PRN positions get zero benefits. MHTs do the most work when it comes to patient contact yet you’re the least appreaciated by management staff. Don’t work here!

A typical day at work involves serving as an advocator for patients; calling insurances to complete reviews to request approval for inpatient days. The hardest part of the job would be when insurance companies deny services. 
Friendly environment, good incentives to motivate employees. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that at the end of the day you have helped patients to transition safely back home. 

You work 4 12’s and 3 12’s . It’s a job where you never get bored, your always moving around and running to another units because someone called a code. The pay is not that good, is totally based on your experience, nobody is getting equal pay. If you are a BHA the job kinda sucks because you can get hurt very easily, but you will gain a lot of experience in mental health and how to deal with people and de escalate situations. If you are a nurse (RN) the job is easier, the pay is better than a regular hospital 

Adaptable to the personal needs of staff and patients. I have learned a lot about how to communicate with others and understand the needs of the people around me. It is an inclusive and supportive environment leaving you to feel encouraged and supported both at work and throughout life. I enjoy working as a team to achieve tasks in accomplishing a common goal. 

Place is a good experience to learn about the Psychiatric care. Except upper management was not supportive enough. Always negative on work performance and the flows that you did. It was a place where employees constantly blame you for the thing you did not do right. It was a facility where you were constantly threaten to terminate you and creates a stressful and hostile working environment.
