Peak View Behavioral Health

There is no typical workday Peak View Behavioral Health, and that is a good thing. Due to the ever-changing dynamics of inpatient acute psychiatric healthcare, the Covid epidemic across the United States and Peak View’s ability to pivot and to remain flexible with our patient’s dynamic needs- empowers me to look forward to every day, simply because one day is the never the same as the one before it. 
I have learned a great deal at Peak View both in my role as a clinician/ therapist and in my current role as an Assistant Clinical Director-Inpatient, which only pushed me to push myself as a member of management, and certainly as an evolving clinician. 
I feel that management leverages in a positive manner their diverse hiring practices to both promote from within when appropriate, hire from outside when needed, and to continually assess what the needs of the patient’s, staff, and our industry calls for to keep Peak View (in my opinion) an industry leader in acute psychiatric healthcare.
The overall workplace culture is that of a blended, giving, and welcoming family atmosphere; this atmosphere makes what can be a very demanding, emotional, and quite honestly a draining work week seem just that much lighter of a load to carry on lieu of our great patients that come to us on the very worst day of their life sometimes. 
The hardest part of my current role is the find balance between, the workplace, family, our great patients, and I cannot forget my amazing team members with knowing that I must leave the job at work when I am home and vise verse.
The most enjoyable part of my job would be the sincere compliments, the thanks, and the feeling of accomplishment that I see on patient’s faces and from them, that are working through the change process and have asked or are asking for that critical hand up at this point in their life! 


Peakview is a great place to get foundational knowledge about mental health. The population that they serve is one that all mental health professionals should have training and knowledge about. Everyday is different and every patients story is unique. Working in mental health crisis does get stressful at times,  but at Peakview there is always someone  to reach out to for help- other coworkers, directors, nursing, providers. I’ve worked with some amazing people - some have stuck around because they enjoy and are great at their job; others have honed their skills and gained experience and have gone on to further their career in private practice, mental health in schools or with the state, or continued their education to obtain a doctorate. Either way, they all gained so much knowledge having worked at Peakview. Directors are easy to talk to and understanding of life situations. They listen and try to do their best to make the working environment a good place to be. Whether you want to work a 12 hour shift or prefer 8 hours- our director works with you to find the best solution for you and the department. Turn over in the Assessment department is high, but in my opinion it’s mostly due to folks realizing that the patients we see are not the population they wish to work with. Others use Peakview as a stepping stone to begin their career. Whatever the case may be, the team is always willing to answer questions and show you how things are done. The people in our department are really passionate about mental health and each bring a special quality and experience. Everyone I work with treats patients with respect and compassion. We understand the need for mental health in our community (and our entire state) and do our best every day, every shift to provide those seeking services with what they need. It really is a good place to work! 

I will never forget my time at peakview. Working at peakview was incredibly rewarding, not because of the management or staff, but because of the patients. Often times I was treated with more respect from patients than my own management and coworkers. I was hired fresh out of high school with no degree and no experience into a dangerous and unsupportive work environment. While this was really exciting and motivating as I was starting my future career path, I had no idea what I was getting into. The job description given to me in my interview was vastly different than the actual job I ended up working. As staff we were often put in dangerous situations without support other than each other and without training more than a few days long. Training that included hands on restraints that could often only be performed on someone your own size or smaller than you or without plentiful backup from other staff. The problem with that, the place was almost always understaffed and for a wage less than $20 I am not surprised. I will say that the lead MHT’s did a beautiful job supporting their staff and I am very grateful for them even providing references for me in my time of leaving. However, the upper management was no support whatsoever being more concerned about issues such as not wearing the right shirt or not buying a meal card for the cafeteria. I gained very valuable work experience from this job because of the patients and I am very grateful I got to impact so many lives. However, if you are looking to make a change while also keeping yourself safe and well accommodated I recommend choosing a different place to work. 

What is the best part about working here? The few co-workers who have your back. 

What is the worst part of working here? The inconsistency and staff splitting. 

This is an extremely stressful job because of the lack of communication between EVERYONE. The staff is constantly staff splitting each other making both workers and patients confused. Half the staff play by their own rules ruining the work environment. There is absolutely NO communication between the different departments in the hospital and everyone blames eachother when something isn't communicated.

Constantly understaffed. Majority of the units should have 3+ techs but are often worked by 2. 

Getting stuck with a lazy partner sucks! When you are placed with a tech that doesn't do their share its just not fair. Some techs just sit on their phones and make you pick up the slack.

Working with nurses as a tech can be difficult. You either get a awesome nurse who communicates and works with you, or you get a nurse who sits on their phone and barks orders at you. Most of the nurses put some of their responsibilities on the techs while they sit on their phone and gossip.

The shift leads are amazing, always running around and checking on everyone! The leads are the ONLY real support techs have thought the day. I have only ever had my manager come and check on me once. Its sad how little we see of leadership outside of our rock star shift leads.

There is a cafeteria where you can get food. They make you pay for a meal card where every meal is $2.50. 75% of the time you can't get what you want because the kitchen only makes enough for the patients. This is ridiculous.

This job drained me in every possible way. The micromanagement was beyond anything I could have imagined—every minute of my day had to be tracked on an Excel "Time Study," including bathroom breaks. I spent my days trying to keep up with a never-ending list of tasks while being constantly monitored and judged for taking longer than most to complete quality work. Despite working overtime until 8 PM, on some days, just to keep up, it was never enough and overtime was always political—something I never understood as I witnessed all my salaried colleagues leave at 3PM often. They didn’t seem to care about work-life balance or employee well-being. I poured my soul into patient care at this facility. All for what? For my “hiring bonus” to be prorated and taken away from my last check for being less than 2 weeks shy of 1 exhausting year. 

As for supervision, if you're hoping for quality guidance while working toward your LCSW, forget it. The "supervision" I received was just my supervisor talking about their personal life for 20 minutes, offering zero professional insight or support. 

If you want to feel like you're constantly under a microscope with no appreciation for your effort or personal life, this is the place for you. But if you value your time, energy, and mental health, look elsewhere.

Some of the patients I worked with were amazing, and changed my life, while others were very violent, non-verbal, had dementia, or incontinent. It truly is a mix of patients. Jail patients, teens, detox patients, geriatrics, high acute patients, lots of homeless patients, etc. It was terrifying being a 5'5 girl de-escalating a jacked male 6'5 restorative patient (from jail) who is beating up someone else and you have to restrain them. The staff and the coworkers are a hit or miss. Some are great, others cliquey, others get in relationships with other staff and it causes a bunch of drama, others don't do anything and make you do all the de-escalation, etc etc. My experience at Peak View was entertaining, stressful, anxiety-provoking, and semi-rewarding. If you have a lot of anxiety- do not apply. If you get grossed out by constant nakedness- do not apply. Management was pretty chill. Pay was absolute trash for risking your safety everyday. But yeah, it was truly an experience unlike any other. Again, if you have anxiety- DO NOT APPLY.

I have been employed at Peak View for 10 years and have seen this area of healthcare evolve in our community.  I do not work in direct patient care at Peak View but have the opportunity to observe patient care by the nurses and mental health techs.  I am impressed by the dedication to help improve the patients' lives.  Providing compassion also arises in other departments from rec therapy, environmental, billing and admissions.  I enjoy being part of a team that truly wants to make each day count. Every day is interesting and provides opportunities to improve and work through challenges.  Our CEO fosters an open communicative environment that motivates me to continue to search for ways to help others on good days and the not so good days.  I feel very supported by the CEO and admire the commitment to the local community.

I have worked for Peak View for the last five years and have been a part of the various cycles of growth and change.  I have had the privilege of working in multiple departments and can tell you that the employees at every level are the most empathetic, compassionate, hard-working individuals that I have ever had the privilege  to work along side of and because of this the patients at this facility receive outstanding services.   I would trust these individuals with a loved one if they ever needed this level of care.  The work environment is very rewarding and challenging at times due to the nature of the work.  This company truly believes in promoting from within. This facility strives for excellence and believes in innovation and improvement for the benefit of the community that they serve. I see myself employed at Peak View for years to come and I appreciate the opportunity to work here today and everyday.

Overall, it's a decent place to work, especially if you want to gain experience. The starting pay looks good but once you see all the responsibilities and risks associated with the job, you feel extremely underpaid. We were consistently understaffed and there's a very high turnover rate. 

As far as the culture goes, if you are a new employee, there's a decent amount of people who will treat you like you're stupid and won't acknowledge you for the first few months. It's very cliquey. Lots of techs treat patients terribly, you can tell who is passionate about their job from those who are just there for a paycheck. 

 I loved working here because of management/HR and all the extra bonus opportunities. There are some good people here, you just have to find them. I typically just kept to myself. 

I have been at Peak View for 7 years and I continue to love my career and the path Peak View has provided. I have learned from so much from the many incredibly talented leaders, directors, doctors, clinicians, and others across the company. The work is challenging in a way that continues to motivate me. The rewarding part really comes from all of our patients and their ability to work with us to overcome their challenges. I have learned endless skills in clinical care, business, leadership, and public health. There is so many different career paths and opportunities available. I also can not speak highly enough of the leadership, specially our CEO and her willingness to listen, support, advocate for and motivate the staff.
