This job requires thick skin and quick wit, as dealing with consumers can be tough, but that’s expected in collections. The hardest part, in my opinion, is sitting still. The work culture can be stressful due to the competitive nature, public stats display, and some negative coworkers—though they’re often the top performers. If you’re empathetic, this may not be the job for you. However, if you get to work with legends like D** St***e or S*** Ca****ll, consider yourself lucky—I learned more from them than from anyone else aside from the branch manager. 

The State College branch manager is incredible—accommodating, kind, generous, and knowledgeable, easily the best boss I’ve ever had. However, another manager, while kind, was not particularly productive or effective at training. I frequently had to seek guidance from the branch manager due to the assistant manager’s lack of instruction. Some employees also took advantage of PTO and scheduling policies, though the system allowed it.

The job offers ~2 hours of PTO per week, which can be used or cashed out, and occasional free lunches. Commission is solid—you get 10% of collected debts after reaching $8,000. You’ll work with dual monitors and must maintain a calendar to track payments, especially recurring ones, call back as necessary, while complying with laws about the time frame in which you’re calling back, you will need explicit, recorded, & noted consent from the consumer to call back any earlier. 

Ultimately, I left because I don’t have the thick skin needed for this job, and it wore on my mental health, even remotely. However, I gained valuable knowledge in Fair Credit Reporting, legal compliance, dispute handling, shorthand typing, and multitasking. If you can be assertive yet professional while staying compliant, this job could be a great fit. If you prefer helping people, customer service might be better suited for you.

I worked for Penn Credit Corporation for 2 years and had no collection experience whatsoever. They were very supportive and did their best at making sure everyone was successful because collections is all a numbers game. The more money you rake in, the more management likes you.

The biggest perk of this job was it's flex scheduling. As long as you got your 40 hours every week, you could pretty much come and leave whenever you wanted.

The job itself does require thick skin and the mental ability to handle people's nasty attitudes over the phone. 

The management does seem to play favourites and being that they employ mainly young single moms, office drama is common. Arguments and even physical altercations are not unheard of. The place can be a zoo at times but as long as you are making money, nobody really cares about what you do or who you are.

I voluntarily quit due to moving out of state but they never wanted to hire me back upon coming back to the area for some reason.

It was a decent stable job despite the craziness but definitely not a career path since it is a small family owned business. Mainly a place to come and make some good money for a few years and then leave for bigger better things.

I worked for Penn Credit Corp for almost 2 years. They don't require experience as they put you through about a week long training program that's pretty thorough. Hourly pay is 10.00 which isn't too bad but the commissions makes up for it if you really focus on what you are doing.

Best part of the job was the flexible schedule. As long as you meet your 40 hour requirement, you can pretty much come to work and leave whenever you want.

Worst part of the job was lack of communication between management and co-workers. Every now and then there would be new rules or policies that would never really be announced but sort of spoken to by a few employees then it would just spread through word of mouth from there. If you were a good eavesdropper (like me) it definitely helped keep you up to date with what was going on in the office so you weren't always clueless.

I only quit because I moved out of state. If they had more offices around the country I would still be working for this company. I certainly miss working here and the perks that came along with it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
HOURLY PAY RATE. In October they provide a catered lunch for their anniversary. The week of Christmas and New Year's they provide fruit one day and chips, pretzels, etc. on the next day.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You are watched constantly via security cameras to make sure you are working and not using the internet for personal use during work hours and listened to via microphones. They can log in to your computer without your knowledge to make sure you are working. No cellphones allowed on the work floor. If a co-worker asks you to come look at something on their computer screen, management will tell you to go sit down and get back to work. They may as well chain you to your work station. You have to clock out to use the restroom or go to the waterfountain.

Management are all related. It is a Boy's Club environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working at your work station all day except for lunch or to use the restroom.

I worked for this company for 3 years and my experience was okay. The benefits and bonuses were good but the pay could be better for all the stress and annoyance. Management was horrible!! The Mount Laurel office needs better management, I felt like I was walking into high school everyday except they were grown women 30+. Not professional at all, my managers should have NEVER been managers! And none of the offices are on the same page when it came to information and how things needed to be done. Which can make your job difficult when you have 100+ plus clients. It’s not a horrible place to work there are many benefits to working with this company but the Mount Laurel office needs serious work!

A typical; day would be answering phones and making calls, laughing and joking with some of your co-workers.  Making sure you are meeting your quota for that day.  What I learned would be how to overcome the hardest obstacle of dealing with people treating them like you want to be treated.  The workplace culture is minimum but for the most part, it is good work environment  Mangement is good but it hard for advancement unless you are a family member.  The hardest part of the job is being cursed out on the phone and not being able to voice your real opinion.  The most enjoyable part is you meet new people all the time while taking or making calls.

This could be a great place to work. Unfortunately, it has too many problems at the management level. First, it is a family company. Everyone who is related to the owner/CEO has great jobs and high pay. Those who are not related do a lot of the hard work and take most of the blame for shortcomings. There is no chance for advancement unless you're related.

That said, there are some great people who work there, but they are rarely allowed to shine. Management doesn't have the patience to see projects through and are quick to make changes on a whim.

The owner/CEO cares about his community and does a lot for charitable causes.

You like to be harassed by a supervisor constantly to the point you would want to walk out because upper management don't consider your feelings. To be in the business of being "fair" this job is far from it. Its a policy that require you to clock out to get drinks from the break room but its no problem for other departments as well as the managers to go and "get coffee" on the clock. They want you to go the extra mile so that the company can get paid but don't want to pay you more. Everyone here is not happy at all and just deal with it and its very noticeable .

The atmosphere is great, management is very easy to get along with. Expectations are in place and they will strive to help you achieve your goals. They offer career growth if you are willing to put in the work.

I really don't have the normal work stress with PCC that I have had in previous employment

Log in, do my work, make phone calls, plan for the next day and go home.

The supervisor are very condescending, they talk to you as if you never worked anywhere before, the atmosphere of the employees are very unfriendly and unwelcoming, no one even has the decency to say good morning, and the work is stressful while they penny pinch your pay down to minutes...

The unwaveringly over billing.
