Performance Contracting

PCI took a chance on me when I had zero experience in the shipyard construction industry. For the following seven years, I had the opportunity to work on many types of military and commercial vessels in various settings and on different shifts. No two days were quite the same. I would come in about an hour before starting time, sign in, say hello to everyone, put on my safety gear, and find out the location of that day's job and what I would need. My coworkers assigned to the same area and I would then head out to the block or ship and spend the next eight hours installing and taping fiberglass insulation on bulkheads or the overhead, and dealing with all the challenges that came with it. With the help and guidance of our skilled leads and foreman, of course.

Communication and people skills played a huge part at the job--more so than most outside of the industry would think. Over the seven years I was with PCI, those elements only improved. Safety was an essential part of what we did, so people made sure to warn others of hazards and just generally watch out for each other. If someone was trying to glass or tape a difficult spot, they asked another for help and it was given. It made for an excellent work culture.

The rewards and challenges of the job were usually one and the same for me. Like I mentioned before, no two days were quite the same, so I had to constantly figure out novel and safe ways to approach the job. It could be frustrating at times, but the feeling of solving the problem made up for it, and I was never bored. Even the sheer physical and mental endurance required sometimes could be rewarding. After working all day in a stuffy, cramped spot you could look back and be satisfied that you had gotten the job done.

I went to school to receive a computer program certificate.  One week after graduation, Performance Contracting hired me as a computer operator.  I was happy to take the job even though it was not what I have learned in school.  This was my  first administrative job. I have gained my data entry and accounting skills from the data processing department.  There, I have done different tasks which include: billings, computer backups, scheduled progress reports to managers via Compuserve, weekly payroll, audit, cut expense checks, month-end closings, inventories.  

The hardest part of the job was to meet weekly deadline with NO tolerance.  We were the data processing department which produced over 1000 payroll checks for 16 West coast regions.  All payroll checks had to be done, sorted  timely in order to be shipped to Washington, Oregon, etc....  for next day delivery.

The most enjoyable part of the job was we spent and share our lives with each other just like a family.  I did not feel I went to work when I was with Performance Contracting Inc.

I was working for this company for 12 years.  I left the company before the department had  merged to Kansas City.

The learning curve was steep and stressful, but the entire office will do what they must to see everyone has what they need to be successful. Office banter and attitudes are some of the best I've ever had at any job.
The most valuable lessons I've learned working for PCI are how to prioritize an unending list of tasks, take one day at a time, to compose professional emails, and to stay organized in the midst of a demanding office space.
Any given day, I will receive hundreds of emails, unexpected tasks to support constantly changing commercial construction projects, answer countless phone calls, and drop what I'm doing to ensure nothing falls through the cracks while maintaining my assigned responsibilities. It was a very hard adjustment the first couple of months, but any administrator in the company across the country will come to any aid you need; the support and kindness is incredible.
Office atmosphere is jovial, even when it feels like everything is falling apart for everyone. The people will be what I miss most about Performance Contracting.

Only worked here about a year and didn't find out I was technically temporary until they let me go right after Christmas with little to no explanation.  I figured it out after they let me go that they only needed me until they got a new system in place to do the job that I was hired to do.  I was just a fill in between the retiree and the new system coming online.  While I worked here, people were decently friendly although many of the departments only associated with those within their own department, rarely spending time with or acknowledging those from other departments. Much of the office outings revolved around excessive alcohol consumption and drunken antics that somehow always made into the rumor mill the following week. Workload was balanced and they definitely value the work/life balance but not a lot of great communication goes on beyond the whisperings and back biting.  There were a lot of opportunities to partake in food days. Several kitchens with filtered water, coffee, and a variety of teas available. Nice facility, clean restrooms, well stocked mailroom and file/copy areas.

Some of the responsibilities of this job are:
•	Data entry of weekly payroll for 300+ employees and transmit to corporate office
•	On-boarding and E-Verify of new employees, create/maintain confidential employee files 
•	Process employee expense reports
•	Weekly check run, stuffing the envelopes, and mail out 
•	Maintain and transmit weekly Certified Payroll Reports to customers
•	Drug testing plan administration
•	Responsible for Labor Control Reports 
•	Prepare monthly safety and data paperwork for field employee meetings

The hardest part of this job is the foreman don't turn in the workers time sheets on time so you are always pressed to get payroll done on time on Fridays to meet the corporate deadline on Monday mornings.

Too many responsibilities for one person. This job should be divided into 2 rolls, or at least some tasks reassigned.

When I arrived at work, we had a morning meeting on what was instore for the day. Then, I would go over maintaince that needed to be done on the truck that I was driving for that day. Last, of the day would go back over maintence on the truck before leaving from work. I would turn in paperwork for the day before leaving. I was next in line to our foreman out on the job sight. My typical day was running a vaccuum truck and keeping lines open and clean at job sights. I enjoyed my management capacity and employes. The hardest part was sometimes trying to get information to other employes and foreman when I was at the truck. Because, we had to use cell phones and sometimes there would not be signals and we had 18 floors to cover if there was a break in the line anywhere. The most enjoyable part of the job was working, being reponsible, and the foreman and my co-workers. It was a very nice atmosphere to work. I also enjoyed the traveling to other job sites.

Even though this huge company is unionized it sucked working for these liars and good ol boys . From day one I was lied to about everything from advancement on down to overtime . While employed with them I remained at the same client site for 18 months ,which in this case was a good thing because of the lack of hours throughout the company ( some drivers only getting 11 hours a week ) , that's crazy , when your a licensed class A cdl driver . As for management if you are not  liked , you catch it . My supervisor would openly lie to our faces and then casually forget or flat out deny saying anything at all . We've all been there , but this is an everyday occurrence . I actually liked this job and worked really hard at it , but again if you are not GOOD with your supervisor you are totally on the outs . A typical day at work would include waking up at 3 in the morning, and working until 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Once I enter the doors of Intel, I am given an assignment along with other people that is required to be completed properly and on time. During these assignments, I've learned how to build and erect scaffolds, install expansion joints, and the basics of carpentry. My co-workers and I must work as a team in order to finish our job. The most difficult part of my job is risking my life, and damaging Intel property which could cost me my job. Though, there are dangerous tasks, the most enjoyable part of my job is completing the assignment and being able to say that I helped build part of an important building.

from the time I started working for PCG in September 2015 to May 2016 I noticed many pros and cons of the company itself. Some of the good things I noticed while working with PCG is that they treat there workers kindly and always make sure the job site has what it needs to get the job done in a timely fashion. furthermore I was impressed with the way the journeyman treated the apprentices and made them feel welcome father than nervous. Things I did not agree with while working with PCG is there lack of ability to teach apprentices and take the time to show them skills a carpenter needs to be succuessful and reach out to them in a way that the apprentice can learn from the journeyman and keep a steady work schedule.

My days are always filled with personal interaction with vendors, customers and field workers alike. I like that. I've learned that there is always an urgency in someones day that I can help with. Difficult to express management opinions because of a huge management turnover (not including myself). My co-workers are very family and goal oriented. I love the bunch of people that I work with. They range from all ages. The hardest part of my job is when I leave, I always feel like I could have done something more (but I can't stay there 24/7). The most enjoyable part of my day is a satisfied customer and a profit making project that I contributed to.
