The best part about this job is the residents that live in this facility. I adored the residents that lived in this facility; seeing them was the highlight of my day. It was so rewarding seeing the appreciation and hearing the words of affirmation that these residents would give me just by me being there for them and helping them.  The residents became such an integral part of my life because I spent so much time with them; that they were like my family. Leaving them when I departed from this company truly broke my heart. The facility itself is gorgeous, it’s definitely not something that you see in a typical assisted living/memory care facility. Phoenix Senior Living really goes above and beyond to create a beautiful environment for elders to live in. 
With that being said—Working for this company was hands-down the absolute WORST experience I have EVER had as a working adult. Management disrespects and takes advantage of their employees. Burn out is a huge issue; part-time employees will be working full-time hours without receiving any benefits or full-time status. I was told that I would be full-time as soon as a full-time position became available upon hire; and found out after my departure that there were full-time positions open the entire time—and they only offered me a full-time position when I turned in my two week letter of resignation. 
I absolutely loved the job for the first few weeks, I thought that I had really found a wonderful company to go the distance with. But shortly after starting, I was put under so much stress that I would leave work crying, it affected my mental health in a very negative way. Management is supposed to be supportive of their employees and their employees are supposed to be comfortable going to them for issues, but management is extremely disrespectful— they don’t follow through with any of their promises, and any issues that you have in general that you bring to their attention will eventually cause either your coworkers or them to be retaliatory towards you; or causes management and coworkers to look at you in a negative light. There’s no semblance of trust which is an honest shame. 

There is no teamwork; you will often do your job and somebody else’s while your coworker is on their phone or outside laughing and joking around with management. I stayed late, worked doubles, covered shifts for call outs, and instead of being given the full time position I was promised when I accepted the job, I was given a $10 gift card to Starbucks and asked if I could stay late

The hardest part about this job it’s coming to the realization that what you thought was going to be a fulfilling job, brings on stress, mental and physical health issues that affect your personal life in a negative way. 

If you are looking to work in a healthcare facility, please look elsewhere. Please do not work here or work for this company. I truly wish that I had a better experience working here. There’s already enough of a shortage of healthcare workers these days, this company has potential to be a lot better once they learn to start treating their employees with the respect that they deserve. I feel like if they had different management and they focused just slightly on the happiness of their employees, there wouldn’t be such a high turnover. 

I would first like to say how lovely the residents are at this facility, my co workers are fantastic. I feel like the caregivers for the most part truly care for the residents. This community is beautiful and has a lot of potential.
With that being said, this was absolutely the worst work environment I’ve ever been exposed to. The hostility does not come from your fellow co workers but from management. They are very belittling, rude and operate in a clique. I felt like I worked in an adult highschool. I really feel like in this line of work you MUST have a good heart that cares for other people. Especially the residents. I witnessed a lot of bad things occur and instead of having the ability to go to management to have them addressed they were more concerned with covering their butts so they wouldn’t get in trouble for the neglectful atmosphere they at time created. I know there is high turn over at any facility. However, I am positive the turn over rate at the Phoenix at lake joy could be minimized if there was a different ED. I often leave my shift crying, feeling overwhelmed and disrespected. I have come to management about situations that no worker should encounter, inappropriate comments made by other employees, uncomfortable situations  etc etc. and not only was nothing done. Hateful “jokes” were made to me. We are so understaffed due to their behavior and it just isn’t clicking that they are the problem. No one wants to work for what we get paid and be treated poorly and over worked. I could handle the pay and the extra hours. The way I’m treated and how disrespected, unappreciated and nervous I feel in such a hostile environment is not worth any amount of money in the world. The only reason I stay is because I love the residents and I worry so much about them due to the amount of staff we have and how little management seems to care about them. Residents are just a number, not people. I’ve seen them belittle residents the way they do their employees. It’s not ok. I wish corporate would investigate  And replace those in management that are not a positive representation of the company. Eventually, if they don’t I’m sure there will be legal repercussions either from a residents family or an employee. If you are wanting to be a caregiver please, go to any other facility. It’s hard to leave once you’re attached but this work environment is absolutely terrible. 
 

I was optimistic about Phoenix Senior living despite the negative reviews upon seeing they had won a great places to work award. Quickly upon starting, I had realized I made a mistake. Frequent realignments at corporate and regional levels means ever moving goalposts and priorities. One week you are beat down for any staff turnover and the next you are told to terminate everyone. Need supplies for your own department that you are unable to order through vendors? Expect to not have them and be blamed or pay out of your own pocket. 
Work life balance is a joke. You are on call 24/7 despite 70 hour work weeks. Want to take your two days off? Expect to be bullied. One day off? Expect retribution. 
Residents, families, and everyone has your personal cell and there is zero respect for time to be a human that has other responsibilities, BUT they pay $50 of your phone bill.  Medical emergency? You better keep your phone on you. 
This is a culture of pettiness, backstabbing, sniping and unrealistic expectations that force community level management to work against one another to survive. There are a couple genuinely kind and good  people at the corporate level but others will not provide support. No matter how hard you try, how many avenues you take, how many people you CC on an email, you will not get it. You will be accountable for it however. 
Part of the company philosophy is hire people that need jobs so they will work themselves into the ground out of necessity. They do not get that almost everyone needs a job. Those people  just have options too. You want quality people that want to work there? Respect them, treat them right and people will bend over backwards for you. You want to create a fear based environment? Good people will continue to come and go. 
When good people do decide to go, the message is to put all the blame on them and pretend that everything will be fixed with them gone. Your efforts will not be recognized or remembered. 
I would say that a big positive is that my experience with Phoenix has given me an appreciation for where I landed after Phoenix.

The corporate family embodies the importance of recognizing and rewarding employees. There is a support system that is caring from the corporate level, not seen by most healthcare organizations I've experienced in the past.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I would say that this is an answer variable by communities. Some communities lack the same culture that the founders share with the corporation as a whole. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Phoenix has an awesome culture of caring for the residents, staff, and the communities abroad. One example of setting this company apart is the signature programs. The Pay it Forward initiative is a great example of a company wanting to go above and beyond for each community, even outside the four walls.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Doing what is asked, and then doing what ever else is asked beyond normal job duties.

This has by far been my shortest time I’ve spent at a job. I am passionate about helping others, so of course I wasn’t expecting the environment I encountered. Any issue or concern you have in this place will be deflected and looked over. There is a display of frustration when reporting issues. They have a huge miscommunication issue and lacks the proper equipment and attitude for this line of work. Most of the long term employees here are over worked and miserable with this unorganized place. The residents are memory care clients and with the lack of memory I feel it brings a lack of concern among the staff that I’m positive the families of these people are unaware of. In my short 2 weeks of working here they have lost maybe 5 employees. Horrible work environment. I became physically ill from the stress this job has cause. 

The whole place needs new management and staff its just that bad.. Its pretty bad when people wont apply for this company because of its reputation.. Word travels fast through facilities especially when staff is allowed to bully other staff members and management does nothing about it but tell the staff members that are being the bullies what was said. Nothing is confidential as soon as someone gets wind of you talking to management about medical or personal issues the whole facility knows. Alot of gossiping picking on other staff shouldnt be tolerated. Its a highly unprofessional environment people are not working for the right reasons and management should be more selective with the hiring .. They need to get rid of the people that arent there for the right reasons its always someone looking for a job that can be trained properly to be in those positions 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The trust you develop with your coworkers. This because you have to trust they will come in and work when scheduled. This is due to the fact they will work you short whenever possible. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Constantly worrying about if you are going to be short again. Worrying about are they going to make you work another unit because they're friends work there. The admissions office will admit people to units where the level of care they require is not available. Most staff unless in long term or rehab are not certified to provide the type of care they need.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You have to suck up and lose your dignity if you expect to get any help.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and most likely worked short. Overworked and underpaid.

This community lacks consistent structure and leadership oversight. The Executive Director is largely inaccessible and appears disconnected from day-to-day operations. There are ongoing concerns regarding management practices, including reports of staff being treated unfairly, with limited intervention from corporate leadership. Holiday scheduling is not rotated equitably among staff. On weekends, the community often operates without a manager on duty, and when management is present, coverage is minimal. Staff turnover is notably high. Additionally, resident fees are not always aligned with the level of services consistently provided, as expectations set during the move-in process are not always met.

This company has a lot of learning to do, their main focus is money, save it at all cost, I feel New company’s should try and build a great reputation when starting out by doing what’s right, These people just don’t care at all if your short staffed, over worked, burnt out, do not have the tools/ equipment you need to care for residents it’s just awful and most of the Management team in under qualified for their roles, The reason the company put these people in those roles with no experience, no training and no background in these roles is to give them a cheaper salary but work the life right out of them overall just overly stressful & mismanaged!

I have been with Phoenix Senior Living for a year and a half and I’m so grateful I joined this group of amazing people. The close-knit community at Phoenix Senior Living creates an environment where I feel accepted and valued. Being part of an organization that focuses on the senior population also means I’m contributing to a vital cause. It's gratifying to work for a company that prioritizes not only the needs of its residents but also the well-being of its team members. These things make Phoenix Senior Living an exceptionally rewarding place to work!
