I really liked this job, a little bit of of a learning curve. Systems are a bit antiquated, don't talk to one another.
There's no typical day as an investigator. Could be 5 to 6 hours of driving, 30 minutes to an hour onsite, then probably another 1 or two investigating, writing reports and making calls.
My Case Manager was good, but the top or executive management fumbled the largest customer, so in a matter of a few weeks basically laid off. You work mostly alone, so no real workplace culture. As I mentioned, my case manager and other investigators I interacted with were good and competent, helped me out.

Hardest part of the job was the lack of written directives, system for report writing was very antiquated, a Linux based system.
I enjoyed the work and would still be doing it if not for the moving me to part-time, that just wouldn't fit what I was looking for. I think the executives are lost, they're probably not very experienced in winning bids and contracts. They don't invest in the thing that makes the money and pays the bills... The investigators and field work. If you don't focus on being brilliant at the basics, then you'll never be brilliant at great things. So I really didn't appreciate working for 3 months at what was supposed to be full-time and then have the rug pulled out from under me! If they would have looked at my qualifications, they would have noticed that I was also an IT person and knew how to redesign their systems, but no one ever asked or offered so I figured since I had basically no warning, other than a couple of weeks before the rug was pulled out. I did the same in reverse and had to worry about my own well-being! As I mentioned earlier, sadly I liked the job and was just starting to hit my stride only to be cut off at the knees! I've been around enough, seen many things and this company will cease to exist if the ship isn't righted soon! 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Traveling to New places and meeting new people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with arrogant construction workers or super attendants at job sites. Pulling up to private property and walking the property to find damaged services. Some property owners don't want you on thier property even thou damage is on an easement.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Working outside in all elements. You don't really meet anyone from company other then talking over the phone. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Check database for potential claims submitted by client. Research claim for damage notes, dig tickets, parties involved, and contact client's and potential damagers and you have 48 hrs to respond.

Drive to damage location and gather information on how damage occurred. Use a provided PLC hit kit the includes 2 cones, 1st is a locate cone and 2nd is a damage cone and ruler. 

Claim investigations are due within 10 days.

Would not recommend this company or position for full time work. Position is advertised much differently than what it actually is. It’s productivity based and the only thing that matters is how many cases you click in and out of daily so that it can boost the numbers. You’re not actually investigating anything and completing cases doesn’t really matter. Bonuses are impossible to get bc they’re team based. They don’t provide computer equipment and you have to pay out of pocket to retrieve reports. You’re reimbursed but not worth it. Advertised as choose your own hours but once hired they make you stick to a specific schedule. Might be ok for part time gig work but its mainly all a scheme to keep PLC contracted with utility companies for as long as possible. Anyone can find a better job than this.

Worked as a claims manager for a while at Phoenix Loss Control.  Fun and interesting to work claims from all over the country, establishing liability, and collecting money for damaged utilities.  However, company had operational issues, and was losing clients.  Upper management had a shakeup, then the culture changed, from a company that let its claim managers go through the normal up and down cycles, to a hard-nosed company firing anyone not hitting their numbers, including firing experienced, productive and seasoned veterans with decades at the company.  

Pros: a truly remote environment, very flexible work hours; engaging work, potential for decent pay.
Cons: Company in upheaval at upper management level.  Also you only get paid when claims are paid, so there can be a long time without a paycheck, especially when you are new.  

Remote work is the most beneficial part of this company.  None of the Upper Management, including the owner has any idea what they are doing.  Recovery and Investigations has the laziest Managers with attitudes.  The owner has too much money and naive people to back him, that's all.   They make it up the job duties, and the rules, as they go and change it just as quickly.  Pay is awful, mileage is even worse, I am not sure how they have employees or investigators.  I am not sure how they have clients.   Not a group of people with the best sense of humor or even work ethic. There is zero security with this job.   They do very little for their employees, unless they are Management, no bonus, no recognition, no support, no raises. 

In my experience, this company has surpassed every expectation that I had from an employer.

The company culture is fantastic! My supervisor makes an effort to remember the things that I share with her. She knows how to manage well, and I have very much enjoyed working with her. It is also a very inclusive environment.

The managers and executive team are also very pleasant to work with. Overall, the team feels very cohesive and is happy to help with any projects or problems.

The WFH aspect of the job allowed me to experience an extremely organized workspace and this helped me to develop a better understanding of my field.

In short, I feel excited to work! I like to learn more about my field every day, and I love the variety that this job provides.

When I worked with Phoenix I had a great experience! My supervisor communicated effectively with me; the feedback was always constructive and he was always available when I had questions. He also made me feel like I was actually a part of the team. The flexibility the job allows is also a perk because you are able to achieve that work/life balance. Sometimes the workflow is slow and other times it is fast, but ultimately I was able to achieve that work/life balance while actually enjoying the tasks of the job!

Poor Management Communication.  One Manager to the next gives you different directions & neither is informed of current issues.  Left to work alone with no guidance or help.  If you aren't willing to work 60 hours a week they don't give you very many claims & if you don't follow their demands to a T, you get no work for two weeks.  Every mess up is a "punishment" for two weeks.  They do not treat their employees with respect, they treat them like children.  Doubtful they will even be around in two years as the new owner has no experience in the industry & places draconian measures on staff.

I worked for Phoenix Loss Control for about three years.  Throughout that time, I was particularly impressed by their management style, and effective communication. The responsibilities were interesting and significant.  There was a reasonable degree of flexibility in the work schedule, and the pay was fair.  Job assignments were well organized, and the supervision provided was exceptional.

Flexible time working from home.

CEO and newly promoted manage who know very little about the job and industry.

Nonexistent. Every meeting was a cliff hanger that was never resolved.
