Postal-Annex

There are nine Postal Annex locations in the San Diego area owned by the Collo family. The trio not only overcharges their customers but they overwork employees as well. They list job postings online promising $16.00 hourly. When you land an interview they'll tell you about the requirement to become a notary. It sounds great at first because you get a bonus for each notary you do. However, once you begin working you'll  realize that you aren't going to be able to take the course to become a notary public until at least three months in. After you complete the course you still have to wait an additional two to three months minimum to receive your certificate and begin notarizing documents. So for a minimum of six months you're making $11.50 hourly. You're taught to lie to customers and start them out with the most expensive prices. That way when you decrease the price, by very little might I add. The customer is forced to go with an over priced option. They are so desperate for employees right now. They have an extremely high turn around! Some stores have been ran by one person SIX DAYS A WEEK for at least two months now. With that being said those individuals do not get a lunch break or any break for that matter. But all the Collo family cares about is making money. They do not offer any benefits nor are they flexible. They lack communication skills and professionalism. If one of the owners tells you they'll meet you at 10:00 a.m. expect to see them around 12:30 p.m. If you have any prior commitments you need to handle once you're hired forget about it. They will not allow you to have a day off without at least  two months notice. Although there's no set schedule in place. Also there's a chance you will not be paid on time. Their customers are haneous as well. They will disrespect you if you allow them. This position can only support  high school students. But I wouldn't even recommend they apply here.

Started work as rca after 5 months I had to resigned due to absolute exostion. working 12-13 hours shift 6 days a week up to 13 days straight. Your life you had before you started you can only dream off. There is absolutely no remorse or empathy from your supervisors to work you to the point you can't walk.I couldn't take 5 minutes brake even after 7 hours casing., no time to eat all days you are constantly pushed to be fast and if you done earlier then you get more to help others so you never done before 8pm. They keep telling you how you have to pay your dues until you become regular so I want to see jung people with family's to give up there life's for 5 years at least or older people would not make it due to physical demands. you have no rights of any off days and if you call out you just end up having the worst route to get back on you. My dream when I started was to retired from this job and I was never quiter but this bootcamp of 5 months just drained me. There are no compromises of any types to make it easy for you. Someone may have better experience but this is my. If I can give advice to someone who think he can do it as I was thinking too then before considering to even apply you need to be 100 able live for work for many years no kids no vacations no holidays no relationship because you will not have time or energy for it period then go for it. If you woman you will lose over time the smile the beauty due to luck of rest constant stress no time for yourself your well-being your hobbies proper eating everything will become history... if you can make it those years until you become regular and don't have medical problems due to all described you will start earning benefits from that day and make half of money because you only get paid your route evaluation plus you must contribute minimum 5%of your paycheck to retirement. So good luck to all of you...

Worked for the company for 7 months, it was fine at first til it wasn’t. 
when there’s no rush there pretty much nothing to do other than to stand around and just wait for customers unless your boss gives you a list to do but even after that it gets boring super quick. 
especially when you’re working a full day then that’s when the boredom kicks in the most. 
management also differs in each store but i’ve been going through a lot the last month or two and even warned one of them that i am more than likely  going to be busy after work (so i was just only going to follow my set schedule)  for the next couple months due to taking care of a family member(just for the week) and after im also going to be starting a class sometime this month. 
and for someone who gets really bad migraines every now and then, i’ve did my best to show up to work even when im in pain. 
i tried my best to not call out as often due to how small the staff was but recently i guess i crossed the line and was let go due to my call offs and apparent selective schedule when my availability was Monday-Friday anytime. 
so i really don’t recommend working at small places like these unless you are a bit well off already, don’t require benefits(they don’t provide that) and if your family tends to have a lot of problems because they won’t tolerate it or pull you to the side to either give you a warning/write up. 
i’ve seen them do it to my other co workers but not once did they warn me or pull me to the side to talk about it. 

I was hired as a friend of the owner. Worked for 6 years, then laid off due to downsizing. I most appreciated the support from the owner/manager in regards to customers, not always having to cowtow to their every whim. We were still expected to have good customer service (despite the owner having very little), but unruly customers weren't coddled.

But the owner wanted to be too much of a friend, and ended up making most employees enemies by the end. Being too lenient on some things, not placing strict boundaries or expectations, and then being too strict when legitimate conflicts arose. Kind of a Cry Wolf situation. He'd be okay with a couple infractions, like missing work 'cause of a migraine or whatnot, but hit that nth time, when something really important came up, and he suddenly was unbending. 

Ultimately, I think he needed more employees but was unwilling to pay. If there were more employees there could have been more flexibility with schedules, but as it was if one person was out then everyone else was overworked. Heck, even 'full staff' was overworked during some parts of the year. And that was ultimately why I was laid off - he felt that 1-2 people were enough to run a store for 60-hr work weeks. Good luck with that.

-A typical day at work was busy attending customers as well as bookkeeping.
-I learned how to professionally package and ship boxes through all carriers, operate office machinery such as fax, copies, laminating and binding. Also I learned to file claims for missing or damaged packages. In addition I learned how to manage high stress situations with patience and accuracy. 
-The store was family owned so management wasn't always present, this gave the employees the responsibility to learn to handle any situation.
- My co workers were friendly and helpful, all with very distinct personalities and was able to work well with all of them. 
-The hardest part of my job was not having enough help to assist customers in a timely manner (when it got extremely busy) due to the high amount of detail that came with our services.
-The most enjoyable part of my job was the family like atmosphere, we had good relationships with our customers and with each other.

So know that Postal Annex is a franchise. Every store owner has their own rules. The store owner I worked for had a few locations. He is an incredible man to work for. However, he hired a manager that every employee hates. She’s inconsistent, backstabs you, talks down on you in front of customers and employees, never goes to you if there’s a problem with your work ethic but instead asks every employee in the store what they think of you or what they know about you. Hours have been flexible for me where I can request morning or an afternoon shift if I have some kind of doctor appointment. There are no benefits besides a few sick hours. There’s no scheduled breaks and no clocking in or out of lunch. You pretty much have to eat and work. Again, this is a franchise so other locations may be different

-The owner was there frequently interreacting with employees and reflecting dedication and quality ethics to the business

-The hardest part of the job was listening to people vent their frustrations regarding their shipments missing after attempting to look into the issue with only option then is to have them file a claim with the shipping carrier provider 


-Most enjoyable part of the job was the flexibility of schedule for my convenience with school and personal life.

Over all its definitely a job you need experience for. I was lucky to get hired with no experience. They did their best to help me understand every little bit of detail about the job but if you mess up even a little it can result as a huge mess up. Because sending packages and delivering mail is no game, and it requires allot of paying attention to every little detail. If you mess up on a shipment, that could lead to not only an angry customer but also losing a lot of money and even worse losing the customer themselves. Other than that the work environment is quite nice and settle, all you really need to do is keep your cool when it gets busy and take your time! if you rush with a customer you will make a mistake! spoken from experience!

Best boss I ever worked for.  He works well with everyone on scheduling. Great atmosphere.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Christmas time was always stressful but they boss made it fun.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great. I had no complaints with this company.  If I hadn't moved out of state, I would still be working there.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work with customers picking out the right sized box to ship off their item, packaging it and giving them the option of which carrier to go with.  Balance and close out registers at end of day.

A typical day would start with daily rituals, taking care of all things that were to be done in a certain timely order. I learned how to pack and ship to locally/internationally, as well as faxing/copying and a lot more in that one stop shop. I had a great manager and great team who stayed on top of things and was always there when help was needed. The hardest part of my job was not letting my perfectionist ways interfere with slowing me down.The most enjoyable part of my job was getting to know my customers, and developing regulars.
