Pros:

Honestly, I've found very few downsides to working here. The pace can be fast, and the industry itself is always evolving, which requires adaptability. However, I see this more as a positive challenge than a con.

Only take the job if the wolfs are at the door and you cannot find anything else. The Safety program consists of do whatever we tell you to do but don't get hurt. The air you breath is a mixture of paint fumes and various other chemicals mixed in with it which you will be regularly exposed to per breathing in or on your skin or both. The Quality program used to be whatever they could get the customer to accept but now since they have lost so many customers it is to just blame the operators on the problems instead of taking responsibilities for their own Quality shortcomings. I have heard the operators complain over the radio about running good all day and then management wants to speed up and then they end up running some junk or they crash the line which the operators ultimately get the blame. The pay is good but be prepared to leave at anytime by your own accord or theirs. The hours are pretty much a joke all to itself you will never know when your going to be off or if you will be working at all. I seen a lot of good hard working people come and go out there so don't make any plans to stay there long always keep looking for another place to work. I hope it gets better for everybody still out there but that is my advice for a person looking to work there. I took the job looking for a place to stay but it is not a place for staying its a place to make due until something else comes up or to pay off some bills and move on as fast as you can.

Precoat took care of its employees until the company was acquired by AZZ. Management has no clue and is contradicting. Sale & upper management makes a lot of “off the record deals” favorable to customers and deviate from quotes and whatever else the company puts in writing. Sales and management pass out HEFTY discounts on an accumulative basis to whining customers like it’s candy on Halloween. The discounts handed out to customers far exceeds bonus payouts to all reps combined with no exaggeration. Constant system changes are a new norm due to the incompetence of newer reps inadequately trained. They hire very inexperienced reps for low wages but it costs the company in constant mistakes. Decreased pay and bonuses didn’t justify the stress or added duties which is why there a plan for a mass exodus amongst seasoned reps throughout all regions. I now work with a more organized company in a structured environment free of chaos & stress. The new company came with chaplains who walk around and offer to pray for you. This should have come as a sign that the new company wasn’t about the right. Most bad companies hide behind religion. 

1) Always be early and ready to start, being late, calling in, no shows, etc. will get you ousted quickly.
2) The learning curve at Precoat Metals never ends. The job is a challenge from start to finish, with something new happening everyday.
3) The management group was excellent to work with.
4) The work place culture is very simple - Make The Difference / Be The Difference, The goal, was always to have the best product, in the most efficient way possible,  with safety being a number #1 priority. This is a steel industry environment, that can be dangerous, the worker next to you is your keeper. and you theirs.
5) In this type of environment the summers are always very hot, the winters can be very cold as well.
6) The gratification of a job well done, at the end of each resolved issue. Then the constant challenge of everything put before you.         

Precoat metals is one of the worse work and life balance jobs I have ever seen. Most plants has adopted the four on and a four off or 3 on and 3 off to balance work and life balance and it works well. Precoat metals do nothing to improve themselves on this matter besides make excuses. There no reason why employees should be working 84 hours a week, that’s just ridiculous to me. I’m glad I didn’t stay long because this company had so many red flags. One of the longest employees there has only been there for 11 years that just shows how sad they are because most great companies got 30 year employees. In training All the new hires was told we would get fired if we made any mistakes. The trainer answered every question with I’ll just fire you if you do. Who really does that? For new employees looking for a career,So no I don’t recommend this place. Not only do these employees go months without a off day, you get no break during your shift, which again was ridiculous. If you have team leads why not use them, allow the team leads to take the spots of each employee so they can get a break. Why you think they are there?

I worked at Precoat as a summer hire for three summers. My time at Precoat was spent doing a multitude of activities. I did everything from painting, cleaning, organizing orders, preparing for important tours and corporate events, driving forklifts and even line work. I had a set schedule where I would work 40-45 hours a week, but was allowed to also work on the weekends, if wanted. For my first summer I was alone, but for my last two I had a few other co-workers. We did multiple team jobs together such as, organizing and painting our skid yard, trash removal, painting line machinery and many other things. I liked the work environment and how everyone acted each other the most. I loved hanging out with and assisting the very close friends I had made. At times it might not have been the most pleasant work that we were doing, but we had fun together and our managers cared a lot about us.

The interview process was nice and positive, but then there was Regis extensive wait. They said it was the background check but I knew this wasn’t the truth. They finally have a start date after some weeks of haggle and then when I get to orientation, there was this rude lady who told me that I didn’t know what I was hired for. We sat in that orientation room for three days and they would not give us anything on paper stating pay or other details. It was like they were trying to make us quit from the start. They kept inquiring about when this other guy was going to fully leave his previous employer as if they had any business or right to do so granted the circumstances. They had bad attitudes, talked about us in our face without using a name and when I finally got to the production floor, the guy training me ran upstairs when he saw me. I just let them have it at that point and returned to my old job. Going there in the first place was a big mistake.

Typical days at work were anything but , when the acquisition of our competitor occurred .
All job duties that I learned were taught to our department by managers who retired prior to merging. After my first 6 years, the direction was gone, as well as the focus of my direct manager. The priority became shouting matches between my manager and only co-worker, creating a horrible environment.
Coworkers were great.
Hardest part of my job originally was learning all aspects and cross training to back up each other. Later, the hardest part was wondering if your job was secure.
Most enjoyable was learning different things about the coating industry and what part our region played in the big picture.

Management and Politics killed the  McKeesport Plant. This plant was Geologically perfect for the east coast. St. Louis killed this plant Also lower management were college flunkies who had no coil coating experience. Management did not promote veteran workers within. This shot them in the foot in 2009. I loved working for plant . This company lost a lot of customers due to closing this specialty plant. And now the Corporation realizes it way too late. Need to reopen this plant to gain the corporations losses. Common sense. I'd be 1st inline to look for re-employment.

A typical day would be order entry, scheduling shipments, scheduling the coating line, respond to customer questions/issues, ensure order delivery, handle any price discrepancies.  
The hardest part of the job would be when material wouldn't arrive from the steel mills on time to make the schedule and then having to try to get the order back in the line when it would arrive without pushing out other customers.
The enjoyable part of the job was the perks of sport games and early release before a holiday with pay, and great bonuses.  
The system was very user friendly which made work much easier.  
My manager taught me how to really be a customer service orientated person, how to build a rapport with customers.
