My typical day at work would be to open up clinic,Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height. Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients. Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures. Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
What I learned at presbyterian pain and spine was more about the spine and injections. What excally the injections do and how they help the patients. I also learned how pain medications effect the body and the doses that are correct for the pain. Also, clerical duties as well scheduling appointments. Co-workers were always helpful with questions and some co-workers worked as group and got along and some did not. I think that the hardest part of my job would have to have been working with difficult patients who were angery and upset. Management was good for awhile then as people got promoted things started to go down hill great mentiors were being fired as well as hard working employes. Due to favortism and groups that were formed with in the clinic. My most enjoyable part of my job was that I would be able to meet new people everyday and some the patients knew me by name. Being able to help someone in pain and/ or just be an ear for the patient is a great feeling. Also, working with great providers that were willing to help educate; my mentiors that I worked with that gave great advise.

My department has some wonderful hard working, caring people in it whom I trust very much. Management however is a different story and is very dependent on the department you are in and the manager you have. Some of the managers are power hungry and are looking to flex their muscle and I have seen and been the recipient of verbal abuse, lies and distortions and a lot of game playing. In some other areas this isn't as much of a problem. HR tries to be helpful but everything is up to the manager you have and if you have a manager who is unskilled or has a power agenda, or an undiagnosed mental health issue life can be difficult at Pres. There is no way to 'write up' poor behavior of the manager. Management over the manager will usually protect the manager.
The transfer/hiring process is extremely slow as evidenced by their long list of open jobs that I am seeing everywhere and have applied to several already. It doesn't matter if you are already an employee or not. Not that they are not getting the applications, but because of a bottle neck created by them clinging to the "Hire Right" system which means incompetent people are still hired if they are the only one applying for the job, but at a slower pace. So if you are a good worker with a good record you will still be caught in the "Hire Right" behavioral model quagmire.
Pres is not a bad employer and we have good benefits, but you have to "drink the Koolaid" so to speak every day and tolerate some managers with very poor people skills. Also I have seen hiring done according to who you know often. Jobs are posted so they look like they are going through the proper channels, but they already know who they are going to hire. You will then find out 3 months later you didn't get the job even though you may be very qualified.
From what I have seen the PMG side is a nicer place to work, different areas of the hospital are known to be 'hornets nests' and the health plan side again is highly dependent on the manager you have.

Orientation with this company was very exciting and they seemed like "the best place to work" but after working here for a few years, it is not the case what so ever. They moved us into a building with cockroaches (multiple, I have photo and video from the break room) lack of cleaning supplies, moldy coffee machines, no cafeteria, no soap or toilet paper in the bathrooms, and disgusting coffee stained desks, and expected us to be happy working there. In December one of my co workers got the flu, and the whole team ended up with it because of poor air quality. If you have diabetes, or another underlying disease, forget FMLA for your appointments unless you have been working there for 1 year! That's right the probationary period is 1 whole year from start date, and then it can take another 6 weeks for them to decide if you are even approved. Want paid holidays? Forget it unless you want the pay coming our of your PTO and there are only 6 holidays you can take off per year. If there is ever a team build off site, they make you take unpaid time and then come back to work to make up the time after the event. If you get hired on as a claims analyst just know that you will be working the same claims as the specialists who get paid more such as specialty hospital claims, high dollars, and more within your first year but there is no pay bump or incentive. Also, if you start working there in 2020, just be prepared that you won't be getting a raise in 2021. Starting pay is around $14 WITH prior experience. This is by far the worst place I have ever worked. Management is horrible, the training is terrible, the pay does not even compare to other healthcare companies. When you ask for help be prepared to wait a month before hearing back on your question. I cannot say enough bad things about this company. I would rather be jobless in the pandemic than work for this company. 

This has been one of the best work experiences of my entire working career. I really enjoy PCSC, work from home has been an absolute joy. My team has always been very helpful, if I have a question, they’re always there to help. My manager lays out what I need to work on clearly and professionally. They have great opportunities to be apart of programs and projects that you identify with (such as for neurodiversity). From day 1, I felt welcomed just as I am. I have worked in call centers prior and it’s literally night and day, even on stressful days I don’t worry about how “replaceable” I am. Not once have I been made to feel like that, actually the exact opposite of nothing but kindness and uplifting. 

You literally learn something new everyday day, you get to support those trying to navigate a sometimes complicated time of their lives. Of course being health related it’s not always sunshine, but it’s really been a rewarding experience. 

I felt the training was well put together, but did feel there was some miscommunication and changes sprung on us during training. Trainer didn’t always provide correct procedures and processes, which made some things difficult at first, but Presbyterian has a system that provides step by step instructions, which is extremely helpful. So, just had to learn to follow that, and haven’t had an issue since. 

For temps the pay is low, and there was never clear communication about pay increases once you go from temp to perm. However, perm pay is based on experience, performance, etc. and I understand now why it’s not discussed. But I do know that was a frequent question that didn’t have an answer in my training class. I do feel that could be explained better during training. 

The compensation at this hospital for Master’s level licensed clinicians is insulting. A higher salary could be made working in a field where a college degree is not needed. The benefits are even worse. The company advertises paid holidays, but don’t disclose that holidays come out of earned paid time off. The health insurance is really poor. The insurance company is in house. The premiums are very cheap, however the deductible is outrageous. The insurance coverage is upsetting. Copays for prescriptions are incredibly high and unreasonable. Insurance will not pay for life saving medication, medical devices or supplies, procedures or surgeries. This job is very literally killing me. I have to work two jobs to survive because the pay is so low. I have a potentially fatal medical condition that I’m unable to have treated due to poor insurance and poor PTO. Since holidays are taken out of earned PTO, it is impossible to accumulate PTO when you first start working. The behavioral health manager is unsupportive and essentially missing in action. The behavioral health manager is clueless about the positions that they are responsible for managing. There is no help for staff who have COVID. The conditions in the behavioral health unit are unsanitary. I keep getting sick and there’s no support or work from home option. They’re more concerned with staff using PTO than staff spreading COVID or other illnesses to patients and other staff. The company offers wonderful sign on bonuses with a 2 yr contract. They do nothing to retain employees. Raises and promotions are non-existent. I love the job I do, and my coworkers are wonderful, however the company is horrible as is management and upper management. 

As an intern in their EPIC IT department (and to be clear, EPIC is the name of medical records electronic system) I had a great time and was able to work with and learn about many areas that IT covers. The downside was that Presbyterian Healthcare Services didn't deliver on it's promise to us interns. At the beginning of our internship the director of the department guaranteed us that at least two of us would be brought into full-time positions because many of the areas needed more people. Instead, by the time the internship was over we were told that the company had instituted a hiring freeze and that they would keep in touch with us and essentially give us "first-dibs" on any entry level IT positions that would open up in the future. That didn't happen.
The EPIC IT groups were very nice and helpful, providing a great environment to learn about EPIC and grow into a possible role in the company, but us interns who kept in contact after the experience were left feeling like test subjects for possible future intern programs.
Ironically, while their hiring freeze was due to trying to save money by not hiring new local employees they were also filling positions with contracted employees that live out of state. Instead of bringing in new local employees the company paid for these contracted employee's plane tickets as well as room and board in addition to their salaries.

For the most part I really enjoyed working for Presbyterian Healthcare Services. My specialty and previous work experience has been in mental health, and Presbyterian helped round out my professional experience by working on the medical side of healthcare.  

My management team was incredible. They were excellent listeners, and strived to ensure their employees felt validated.

Regarding the work culture I believe it depends on the department you work in and where you are physically positioned on the floor. I felt my team was a little too divided which allowed for cliques to develop. For example, my managers and a large majority of my team was on one end of the floor, and myself along with a select few were on the complete opposite end. This made communication and bonding with certain members of my team a challenge. For the people I did bond with we were very tight knit, and anytime someone needed help or reassurance we happily supported each other. I once heard management say they wished they could bottle up the energy and positivity we had and spray it on the remainder of the team. 

I found the most difficult thing about my job was working in a cubicle in a room the size of a football field. When you are on the phone working with insurance companies or clients/patients the noise level can be very annoying and distracting. To be honest I felt like a drone in a bee hive.

I had a great time with my actual work at Presbyterian, and I was very quickly trained up and learned a wealth of knowledge. The greatest problem I had with my job, at least in the department I worked in, was this sense of "cliqueyness" that permeated the department and was in fact something I was warned about during my very first week there. That should tell you how bad the problem is.

I ended up joining a clique of my own, not consciously, but as a direct result of only ever working with the same 3 people. Everyone else I encountered was at least passive aggressive and sometimes even antagonistic just because I didn't see them often.

The management though, that was a horrible problem. For some inexplicable reason we had far too many middle managers that mostly contributed nothing but somehow always made drama in a professional environment. With exception to maybe 1 or 2 of these managers, they were all unfit to work the position they were in and caused more trouble than they helped solve. They had a horrible habit of forming their own cliques and having extreme favoritism. Certain employees received more opportunities than others because the management favored them over others (and the rest of us were never even informed of the opportunity,) and certain employees did not receive the same if any punishment for actions that would have terminated others. I won't miss the favoritism.

The temp to hire process is ugly and underpaid. The money is good once you actually become permanent. After training, you’re basically on your own unless your coworkers help out in the chat because supervisors don’t. The waitlist to get an earlier shift is never ending and people who come in after you will be given the shifts you’re waiting for if they threatened a quit.  Also you’re not allowed to have overtime so if you take a late call as you are required to then you have to have your lunch adjusted so they don’t have to pay you for that time worked. They also schedule meetings and Townhall during hours you’re not allowed to attend because you can’t get off the phones or off work hours so you’re not getting paid for that time. Retention is horrific probably because of the temp to hire so you’re constantly back to back on calls because there’s never enough employees. They also cross train you and then slam you so while others are getting time off you’re getting switched from Q to queue even if you’re not trained for those queues and just getting time for a doctors appointment you usually have to have a manager override with workforce. The ability to work from home the benefits and the permanent pay Keep you here but the other stuff has you constantly looking for something better. 

A typical day at work meant coming in at 6:00 a.m. and readying for patients to arrive for outpatient surgery admission by 6:30.  I had a group of usually 20-25 patients with files ready to complete as they came in.  Along with collecting their EID or self-pays, I rechecked the files to be certain their documentation was in order.  Of course there were other admissions that arrived in the department at the same time so there might be occasion when my attention would be divided among other patients depending upon how well staffed the department was at the moment.  Generally we had only two to three other patient clerks.  As an account representative, I did not have to do this as the clerks were on the front desk.  As a representative I did mostly computer input and coding.  Furthermore I would check my past due accounts in files that were at 30/60/90/120 and beyond.  

Management was supportive and there were many training sessions and occasion for opinions and surveys by staff to hospital administration.  The environment was positive and upbeat and when organizational policy was ready to be changed, management was always ready to explain in a thorough and empathetic manner.

The best part of the job was the pot luck dinners we held and the relationship that management had with the employees.
