The organization relies on an incredibly high turnover/burnout rate. Most people don't last more than 3 years. There is not a lot of support for the trauma that you will come in contact with on a daily basis. The executive leadership team is out of touch with the work being done on the ground and do not prioritize the needs, advice or welfare of the staff. Communication is muddled and infrequent from leadership. Regarding medical programs, the leadership is mostly motivated by revenue. Occasionally the work environment is antagonistic and verbally toxic. Extra job responsibilities are routinely added without pay raises. Problematic staff are not held accountable due to, what is perceived as, seniority and loyalty to the organization. Staff who are in recovery are unfortunately not supported adequately while working in an especially triggering environment. There is not enough space for all staff to have their own work space. The building is very cold in the winter (think extra layers- or maybe don't take your jacket off, scarves, gloves) and the facilities are subpar overall.

Pros- The clients are amazing and the work can be truly incredible. They do their best to provide as many services as possible to a very vulnerable population. Many of the people you will work with are incredible and almost make working there worth it. There are often opportunities to take on new responsibilities and occasionally opportunities for upward mobility if you care and are willing to put in the work. Great healthcare coverage- no deductible!

Overall I enjoyed my work I Prevention Point Philadelphia. I enjoyed working with the participants and helping them on a daily basis. But I found out that people doing less work than they were getting paid more than me and that made me quite upset. I had adequate experience and a degree. Also advancement jobs were given to favorites of the company and interviews were not readily available to everyone in the company which seems a bit unfair everyone should have an equal chance to get a job. The insurance was fairly good and was only $40 a month. Since I left I have heard that the company has gone downhill  at least 15 people quit and were laid off. There seems to be something going on with upper management. I don’t know the details of that. But overall I did get great experience here to help me in my future endeavors.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The coworkers and participants make the days feel enjoyable, as if you're not at work. You can be yourself and don't have to feel ashamed about it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When we lose participants to the horrible disease of addiction. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Relaxed, non judgmental, fun, professional when necessary 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Assist participants with putting their lives back together and can include but not limited to connecting them to doctors and specialists, obtain identification documents, admitting to detox, rehab, or mental health services, housing resources, etc...

My first day I was stunned at the level of dedication, empathy, and knowledge my coworkers had. As time went on I’ve realized that they maintain this same level every single day! We make each other the best we can be. Now, during two pandemics in a high risk atmosphere my days are very stressful in the  majority. Yet, our goals for each task are clear and achievable because of the strong support from supervisors and management. I’ve never been this satisfied in a career.

For me, nothing. I was lied on, lied too, and lied about. Politically incorrect.

All the daggers you need to duck.

Gossip , toxic, if you are into that carry on, if not then run.

Stressful, nothing fixed, work passed on, 0 appreciation. Never again.

The clients and the interactions with them

Not being able to save them all from the evil of drug addiction

Tence and never a day with out having to walk on egg shells

Full of interactions with clients

How to deal with clients,dealing with clients with mental issues,for most management were professional, typical day at work was fixing things and maintaining a clean environment, learned patience and how to deal with all type of attitudes and mental issues

Clients in this facility are dealing with a lot already, however we have some staff that are very unprofessional and very demeaning to the clients in addition we have clients that abuse our staff and they don't get reprimanded. In an environment as such this there has to be boundaries set in place.

The most enjoyable is working with the participants the burnt out part was My co workers everyone thinking they are directors and the director comes in new and changed everything around and made rules that were unfair 

This organization taught me a great deal about public health from the perspectives of harm reduction as well as the the street's perspectives of coping, maintaining and surviving.
