Principle Long Term Care

First thing in the morning I would check wander guards for activation for the residents who had them.  Around 10:00 we did grooming til around 11:00. A variety of activities would follow such as task baskets, Outdoor activity, cooking class, exercise, current events, etc. On Tues. we had a church choir come in at 11:30-12:30.  While residents ate lunch I might give out mail, eat lunch, POC participation of activities,get ready for afternoon activities. Around 2:30, I would start activities again for residents who didn't nap. These activities could consist of Bingo, exercise, bowling, ring toss, ball toss, trivia, outdoor, music, beachball volleyball, dancing, movies, socials, birthday parties, crafts, etc. I usually finished activities around 4:30 for the day. Having time in between some of the activities in the afternoon to POC participation and before leaving for the day.  If I had assessments to do I had to find time for those also. I also participated in family care meetings for my residents and one other hall. I had one resident I did 1:1's with twice a week.
I have never done this kind of work before. I just got in there with supervisory help but most of it I learned by doing.  I learned how to organize activities, be creative, work with a group of Alzheimer residents, organize my time to get everything done, learned how to do assessments; including medicare. One major thing I learned was how to be flexible in the job according to their meal times being late, or dining room not being available, Dr. visits, etc. I just went with the flow.
The Activity Director I had wonderful. She was very involved, animated and cared deeply for the residents and her staff. I had an immediate supervisor who was wonderful and very helpful.  We had a very good working relationship. Sometimes we did activities together.  
My co-workers were very helpful and fun to work with.  When we had  special socials with outside music groups, money making breakfasts, or lunches I would participate.
The hardest part of the job was finding time to do everything I needed to do in a day; especially if you had several assessments due.
The most enjoyable part of my job was being with my residents. I fell in love with them all.  They were so loving and fun to be with. I enjoyed talking with them, hugging them, listening, and doing fun activities. They became my friends. I miss them terribly!  
I applied for this job from an ad in the paper. I found my niche. I absolutely loved this job. Unfortunately it was a full time temporary position.  I was let go because of low census.

GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING.
The micromanagement of time is really a killer. They’ll tell you in your interview that you have autonomy but then when you start you’ll get a different story. Working an hourly wage, and having the company GPS track your work phone and iPad is a killer, esp when they don’t give you enough work to do. 
The pay is good, however the benefits are really mediocre at best, the vacation time is abysmal, the rationale is really poor. You max out at 11 days with no ability to acrue more and you cannot roll vacation days over year to year nor can you cash them out. So you are stuck with EXTREMELY limited vacation time. 
The company will tell you this is a really good thing because you can take frequent vacation, however it’s really about saving themselves money when you wake up and realize they’re being cheap so they don’t have to pay out vacation when you leave, and you will never be able to plan for a longer vacation because you’ll never accrue enough days to do so.
You have to account for every minute of your day on a paper handout which you write in and turn in every morning, this would be fine if they were flexible in work time, however they are VERY VERY rigid that it is an 8-5 work day M-F. Hospice isn't an 8-5 job and sometimes it requires overtime, or early mornings or late evenings. Flexibility and autonomy with time is key.
You also must ask permission to do anything here. You have NO autonomy. If you want to deviate and take your lunch break at 3:30pm instead of noon, you have to ask. If you want to work later on a monday and flex time on a Tuesday, you must ask permission. If you want to make connections in the community and set up coffee appointments, you must ask permission even if it is in your job description. There is no ability to be an adult and be trusted.
You will be treated like a child and tracked to verify it.

Mileage is reimbursed biweekly on your paycheck, which means it is taxed, so you don't ever get full reimbursement.

Company wise, literally everything could be solved with giving employees a fair and good benefit and vacation package, paying salary and stop micromanaging time. All the problems solved that easily.
That being said, I’d look to work for another company that values its employees well being.
Hospice work is heavy and emotionally takes a toll and working for a company whose words say supportive and actions say otherwise doesn’t help.
Find a company who values you.

Overall I feel Carolina Rivers Nursing and Rehab Center was a very pleasant work place. Geriatrics is a job that requires not only constant and ever changing medical needs but more importantly staff with the utmost of patience, compassion, and knowledge to inform the charge nurse of any and all changes observed with our patients. Unfortunately the difficult part of my job would be staffing and I have found that to be so in all long-term care facilities as well as in a hospital setting.As a Registered Nurse that would double the work load, but I knew to prepare and manage my time in a way that all residents would receive the quality of care they needed within an acceptable time frame. A typical day, evening or night shift would always be rush, rush however no resident in any way, shape or form needed to know this. I have always spoken to staff that I am in charge of that as soon as one call light goes off and you are already caring for another patient, you politely excuse yourself from one patient and let the other patient know very politely, that you WILL be with them in a very timely manner as you are providing care for another resident at this moment. Kindness and consideration is as important as the medications the patient needs. As far as co-workers, never underestimate or "judge a book by it's cover", although I have been a Registered Nurse since 1994, I have learned from some of the very best staff that do not possess the degree I have, listening instead of talking sometimes leads to the very best interventions, and never request another staff worker to perform a task that you yourself would not do also, it's called TEAM WORK and we are all here for one reason, quality of care for our patients!! Sometimes the best medicine is fluffing a patients pillow, an extra blanket and a kind word.

I’ve been working at Principle LTC since 2023 as a Staff Accountant in the General Ledger department, and it’s been one of the best career moves I’ve made in my 25 years of accounting.

The work-life balance is excellent — I work in the office Monday through Friday, and overtime is very minimal, usually only a few hours a month during end-of-month close. Vacation, sick days, floating holidays, and major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas are part of the package, and scheduling time off is never a hassle.

The company itself is structured like a larger corporation but has the feel of a family-owned business. Management is approachable, open-door policies are real here, and even the C-Suite leaders are aware of and recognize employees. Our department is especially close-knit; we work hard but have a lot of fun along the way. We have regular lunch-and-learn events, team-building activities, and even wellness programs like free mammograms offered yearly.

One thing that really stands out is how well-documented and explained the processes are — it makes the job manageable without feeling micromanaged. The leadership in my department is among the best I’ve experienced, truly working to make sure employees are supported and set up to succeed.

There’s room for advancement, especially if you're willing to explore different departments, and they offer tuition reimbursement for work-related courses. While I don’t participate in the insurance program myself, I’ve heard feedback that the health benefits could be improved.

Overall, the environment is professional but relaxed. Our GL team is genuinely one of the best teams I’ve ever worked with — mature, respectful, and drama-free.

I absolutely recommend working here if you’re looking for a stable, respectful, and enjoyable workplace. Personally, I plan to stay until I retire.

I do not recommend working here. This place is terrible. You have some CNAs who walk around and look busy, but are doing nothing. They hang around at the nurses desk, or walk the halls instead of answering lights. They hang around in bunches or have their little cliques, even some of the nurses who tend to look busy. No one is for the residents ... only for themselves. There is too much drama going on, you can complain all you want to, or go to upper management with a problem, but you're just wasting your time and breath. Some of the residents are rude to the point of you walking out the room, or on the verge of quitting. Some of us work very hard, and don't even get a thank you at the end of the day, but they put up a sign that says Thank You For All You Do. I get so tired of hearing that because they don't mean it. The hardest part of the job is dealing with  unappreciative residents. The only thing I've learned since working here, is that there are only a select few that can get away with any and everything. It depends on who you are here. If you only want to work here for the money, then by all means apply, get hired, and you will find out for yourself. But if you're looking for a rewarding job where people actually care about the residents, and you are appreciated, then go somewhere else. There is nothing enjoyable about working here, people are quitting everyday, and all you get is a body full of pain at the end of the day to the point to where all you can do is go home and go to bed! 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to engage with the residents. They are truly kind-hearted; however, they merit an even higher standard of care and attention.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Employment at Northchase Rehabilitation Facility was characterized by a hostile environment. The management of dietary services and the administrative team are highly regarded outside of the workplace; however, the kitchen staff are subjected to poor treatment and are not adequately supported. The administrator demonstrates a lack of concern regarding the concerns raised by the kitchen personnel.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The faculty area requires cleaning, and the plumbing within the kitchen needs to be addressed, as there is an odor of feces present.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The situation is extremely stressful and excessively triggers my anxiety. There appears to be a deficiency of compassion, as there is little concern for individuals' health and well-being. Instead, there is an expectation for staff to remain in the kitchen and serve residents regardless of their personal health conditions. I believe that the health and well-being of residents should be the top priority.

The company is very diverse and the employee population is aligned to company values and missions.  People are put first with an emphasis on customer service.  The open door policy is closely followed by leadership with a thorough and timely review of any concerns brought forth.  Company-employed Consultants such as myself provide targeted support to the management, operations, and clinical needs of our facilities.  In my role, I serve as a Human Resources Business Partner to the leadership team as well as a liaison to facility employees.  I enjoy opportunities for process improvement, creativity, system reviews, people strategy, and employee relations.  I am supported by my leadership team in providing Executive Coaching to facility leadership as well as to identify "at risk" employees who may be considering switching employment to see how we can retain their talent.  Employee retention and engagement is a huge component of what we do as well as ensuring our employees have the training and resources they need to be successful.

A typical day as an AIT can vary quite a bit depending on the needs of the building, but it usually involves shadowing different departments, sitting in on meetings, and helping with ongoing projects. I feel like I’ve learned a lot about how different areas of the facility connect and how important communication is between staff, residents, and families.

Management has been supportive, giving me opportunities to observe and take part in decisions while still allowing me room to learn. The workplace culture overall seems focused on teamwork and keeping things resident-centered, even when the day gets busy.

The hardest part of the job is balancing all the moving parts. There’s always something going on, and priorities can shift quickly. At the same time, the most enjoyable part is seeing how the work being done makes a difference in residents’ daily lives and knowing I’m growing in my own role.

You lose good staff because others that need disapinary action or need to be let go get neither.  It is okay for people to not show up on time or they can run inside clock in then go back to the car to get all their stuff and then come in "late" but look on time by clock in time. It's okay to leave early too! Never can find certain CNAs- always go missing. Maybe we are just spoiled by the other CNAs that work hard, can find or contact at least when needed, and seem to actually care about the residents! Plus you can sleep on night shift! No not close and rest your eyes and be alert to your surroundings, no not take a 10-15 min nap, but yes actually get you a blanket and/or a pillow to sleep for a few hours while everyone else works, or works on looking for the sleepers and where they are hiding at. I got along with people there, but I hated that no disapinary actions are hardly ever made and nothing gets said. Therefore the things above never stop happening and those people are not scared to lose their jobs at all. Management should be ashamed to know this is happening and nothing is done.

Work load 25 to 30 patients with 1-2 aides, zero management interaction except to let you know a pt is on the way.  Management with poor communication skills, they frequently notify of a missed chart note on the 35-40 pt but no acknowledgment of managing to accomplish  completion of “All tasks” due in the shift while working alone. Most common remark of current nursing staff is “I got to get out of here”, creating a toxic environment atmosphere most of the time.  The admission nurse does nothing on the admit except put the name in, decides the room assignment and stops, even when she has access to admit  orders. The over worked unit nurse has to do the entire admission 😡along with unit med pass, control pt issues and help unit overworked under staffed CNA with 2 person tasks. I have worked multi facilities in my 9 year career but this is the worst management team I have worked with  yet.
