Working with Mentally Challenged Adult is a rewarding job. We opened as a Day Training Program in November of 2010, with 11 consumers, I currently have 62 consumers and a budget of over $699.000. We have consumers working in competitive employment of Janitorial; receptionist and shredders. Due to my 20 years of working in this field, I have been able to use that experience to advance the Program. I supervise more than 11 staff person; the staff is great and put forth 200% effort. The hardest part of the job is to place the mentally challenged in competitive employment. The most enjoyable is when the consumer receive their first paycheck. I have learned that when you are attempting to change a behavior, you must replace it with a desired behavior. A typical day is making sure that the vans are working and that the staff is on time, dealing with maladaptive behaviors and ensuring the safety of staff and consumers

These bad reviews you see are not exaggerations or fictional. I work here and everything bad you read is absolutely true. Management is inept and offers little to no support. It’s every person for themselves. The staff are very undervalued and receive low wages. There is absolutely no structure whatsoever. The turnover rate is exceptionally high. HR is department is poorly organized and ran very poorly. Awful work environment and bad living environment for the clients. You are overwhelmed at work and do not get any support from anyone with authority above a DSP level. The Goals are a joke and it is far from a person centered focus here. The Cilas are managed awfully and most staff do nothing but the bare minimum and sometimes even the bare minimum is not even being met. The staff are burnout, overworked and under appreciated. Nursing department is a joke and HR is just as putrid. 

Open the mail and process invoices to be paid.
Matching the invoices up with purchase requisition, receipt of items.
After processing the invoices they are batched according to month and entered into Great Plains.
I process 300 + invoices a week.
Reconcile the Fleet gas credit cards with receipts to invoice.
Reconcile the Home Depot card with receipts to invoice.
Process expense request forms making sure they have the proper approval.
Process mileage logs and mileage reimbursement forms.
Interact with the residents who come to clean is the best part of my day.
It is a non-for-profit and there isn't any room for advancement. At the initial interview the benefits were explained as normal benefits and this was not the case.  Tense work environment due to office politics.

Accountability is a very serious and chronic problem at this agency.  There are no performance evaluations on employees.  As a result, the company allow management’s  unprofessional, subpar work, and inappropriate work place behavior to become part of the norm and is either ignored, allowed and/or promoted.  What is equally disturbing, is the lack of support and no visible presence  by upper management, even when extremely under staffed. When problems occurred, often times blame was placed on staff instead of holding individuals that were hand picked as management accountable.  In all of my years of working in this profession, this was by far the worst as it relates to management.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
My coworker was the best part of the job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Residents at the facility.  Residents could basically do what they wanted too.  The nurse would forget to order meds or make doctors appointments, then tell the administrator that i didn't let her know.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was very stressful.  Residents did not have to do anything they didn't want to do., such as  clean there rooms, after meals take their dirty dishes to the kitchen,  brush their teeth, etc. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I passed meds, while getting residents ready to leave , also assisted the kitchen staff. Cleaned the facility, after residents left and  informed the nurse of any issues with residents or if  medications needed to be ordered.

This company needs to be shut down they steal  the clients food and money There’s never no food in the house 
Manager suck n want you to work your but off so they won’t have to get they lazy but  up in the house to work 
Clients share each other clothes 
Houses have Scabies .They don’t go no where but to work shop .They take the clients off the meds so they can have behaviors.House manager don’t care about nobody but they self.They throw you under the bus to save the own but 
Dumb rules They need better management .Everybody needs to be fired Throw the phi away.They make you work 18 hr plus bc they don’t have nobody to cover the shifts and again the lazy house managers don’t want to get up and work 
They don’t have the right cleaning supplies 
They don’t have soap. 
They don’t care about they clients

This job is the kind of job that is easy because it is what you do in everyday life.  You spend most of the days cooking, cleaning and making sure the residents are safe.  The only thing about this job is that it is really for people who have older children because of the work hours and if you have nothing else going on in your life, such as school or another job, or your work hours can be very limited. The best part of this job was having a bond with people who are developmentally disabled, because you give them someone who they can trust in a society that may stare or even look at them funny because they don't understand them or are afraid of them because they do not understand them.

It wasnt about having experience working with this place you will end up loving all the staff and residents and they become part of your family. A typical day in the house always included making sure everything was cleaned and the residents did all the chores each day  and made sure to give them their medicine. The hardest part of each day at work was having to tell them if they cant go on a outing due to not having money in time or they acted up at their job before they came home. The most enjoyable part of my job was being around the other staff member and being able to see the smile on the residents faces when they won at the special Olympics

My job as a DSP (Direct Support Personnel) is a pretty interesting job. Its has its up's and down's, but for the most part its never a dull moment. The main thing that I can say about my job that a like is working with my co-workers and assisting the residents in day to day activities. I also like the stability. I learned a lot about residents and people with mental disabilities from my time working with the company. The hardest part about my job I would say is working with uncooperative residents. Some of the residents that have a lot of behavior problems can be quite a handful at times and can be verbally and physically abusive.

My experience with PHI was great at the beginning. I loved the clients and my coworkers were friendly, helpful people. Once you have worked there awhile the management becomes comfortable with treating you poorly. I was forced to work many hours due to coworkers not showing up for shifts. I would attempt to reach my supervisor but a majority of the time they would not answer or would tell me I had to stay over because It was required, even if I had already worked 16 hours. Besides the lack of communication and constant need for a shift to be covered, I thoroughly enjoyed my job. The clients made it All worth while.
