I was employed for approximately 30 days as a night shift behavior tech in April 2025. Workload was easy and DBT programming seemed effective for teaching clients psychological skills for recovery. 

However, the workplace culture was A PROBLEM. From the start, negative comments were made about me personally being in recovery and having a history of hospitalization (despite me being in recovery and out of hospitals for over 5 years). Though management knew upon hire I was a certified peer recovery specialist, they later cited this as part of why I was "not a good fit" for their organization. Coworkers on night shift had a haughty attitude towards clients and actively avoided interaction under the guise of "not showing favortism or having boundary issues." They literally spent the majority of the shift watching streaming or sleeping locked in a back office away from clients who had to actively seek out help when needed. When I tried to address this issue with management, they suggested I was "out of my scope of practice" and should find another workplace. Additionally, highly negative attitudes from medical staff for those in active addiction or those clients considered "non-compliant." Some of the actions related to this led to highly questionable administrative discharges. While this is not uncommon in the field, when attempting to address with management was again met with resistance. When I contacted HR about these issues I was told someone would reach out to me. They never did despite me attempting to speak to them several times. 

Overall - this is not a healthy place to work for any individual actively pursuing recovery - or at least will not be until management makes some serious changes more aligned with their stated values. I have worked over 8 years in the field of recovery. I could not in good conscious recommend this facility to a client. Though there is some good programming within the structure of Promises, the individuals promoting that programming seem unable to apply the principles they teach others to their own professional work at this time. A client in this situation seeks out help because they are sick - these are individuals with a very low tolerance for symptoms of that sickness. 

With Behavioral Health in charge, Promises has become even more bottom-lined focus. Expected an impossible workload with little support from the company. Very dedicated quality employees joined only to feel betrayed, used and constantly reminded they are easily replaceable. The hiring & firing cycle has been consistent at Promises since this place opened 6 years ago but has gotten worse. This trickles down to the clients. Very committed clients enter into treatment only to have difficulty focusing on recovery because they or their peers are mistreated. The remainder of their treatment is focused on protecting themselves from unhappy staff. The staff is focused on keeping their jobs at any expense since they've watched their peers get fired so someone above them can keep their job. 

Clients families are promised more than is offered by the center and the business development guy knows the system is in his favor. He tells the families one thing, knowing the addict won't know the difference when he/she are in. If the family and loved one share notes and find a discrepancy from what was promised and what is actually delivered, the family is told the loved one is acting out. The protesting client is treated badly in subtle ways. Once Promises gets their money the clients were stuck with no chance of refunds. Our job was to keep the clients from complaining or leaving early if they were insurance clients. We were called zoo keepers and glorified babysitters by the clients. The addiction therapists and management staff are above us and our recovery and input isn't welcomed even though we spend the most time with the clients. We're supposed to execute and not question. 

On the positive side, the space is beautiful and the food is always good. The night and weekend shifts are the most relaxed and fun. Some clients make the best of it and have a good experience. Some staff make the best of it and focus on keeping their jobs.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Terrible turn over rating.  You are a numbered employee, they do not value people's interest,  they claim they are flexible but the flexibility they offer is to benefit the company not the employee.  They preach that the company wouldn't function properly if every position wasn't valued high but in the same sentence of you are not working on the main office then you are not treated equally. And God forbid you get hurt on the job! You'll get pushed around and shuffled until you are fed up and end up quitting.  All in all,  I would not work here

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No one knows what is going on.  Every position has multiple bosses telling you different things.  The communication throughout the company is for lack of words (terrible). And then you get in trouble for doing what one boss says that the other says opposite.  They have positions that are not needed and don't hire for positions that are needed. They create job titles to appease certain individuals while other departments are lacking workers


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is on unless you're directly involved with administration.  Have you walking on egg shells. And the culture is that is you are a yes man you get ahead and if you just want to show up do your job, and go home they don't want it need you

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Confusion, pulled from every which direction bc every position has multiple bosses that don't communicate

Understaffed and open position job duties delegated onto other staff increasing their workload without financial compensation. Administration ignores pleas for support and will occasionally give a pat on the back with some empty praise and  promises . This company is all about profit only. Their catch phrase " we take care of the people that take care of the people" is a bunch of bologna. Direct care staffs motivation and dedication is quickly taken advantage of until they are left feeling burnt out, invalidated, unsupported, discouraged and at times hopeless. This in turn affects the client care and any sens of team quickly dissolves. Once Promises took over Washburn, the vision I signed up for and believed in dissapeared.

typical day is trying to fullfill as many job duties as possible while still taking care of immediate client needs that pop up frequently. Added to that is the deman to document as much as possible so that insurances can be billed and money can be made. Money that we are not seeing put back into the company

Culture depends on the program and the manager. Some are good, some are toxic

Elements Behavioral Health took over this small, luxury rehab and completely changed everything. When I first started at Clarity Way, I could not believe a job like this existed and LOVED my job. For the first time in my life, I could say I loved what I did and loved where I worked. The work environment was heavenly and I felt like the facility as a whole was able to help these people who desperately needed it.  Everyone loved working together, they provided us a meal during our shift, everyone from bottom to top got along, socialized and genuinely cared about each other. Over the first year of working there, things drastically changed. By the end of the second year everything was different. Elements Behavioral Health cleared approximately 50% of the staff and upper management. It went from a fun, loving, caring environment to complete paranoia of who was going to get laid off next. Management that was left after the lay offs, were scrambling to pick up all the pieces of our well oiled machine that was completely obliterated. Now it remains understaffed and clients do not receive the care that they used to. They cut therapy sessions and other holistic treatment sessions to the point where majority of the time the client is there is spent hanging out....

Working for this company will wear you down. If you have any moral standards, this company will either wear you down or make it their mission to ruin your work experience until you quit. They have no structure or rules. Management is too scared, lazy, and/or clueless to stand up for what's right. Those with a backbone throw their weight around to get what they want, often bypassing protocol, endangering both staff and clients.  I would not advise for ANYONE to work nor receive treatment here. It is glaringly obvious that they just want money and have no concern for neither the clients or the staff. Beyond that, they're extremely racist. Clients of color are often immediately discharged at the first sign of conflict or disagreement whereas their Caucasian counterparts have threatened staff, sold drugs on property, and even attacked other clients yet they are minimally reprimanded and are rarely removed from the therapeutic environment. 10/10 worst place to work ever.

Before I begin, I want to say that I had a supportive clinical supervisor, who always went out of his way to support and validate the work that I did. Unfortunately, the new CEO created an environment of distrust and was tremendously unsupportive and unappreciative of everyone’s work. I never minded the fact that from the moment I went in, I was besieged by intakes and psychoeducational classes that I had to teach, as well as all the individual needs of my patients. I truly enjoy caring for them. Everything changed when we got a new CEO and the culture took her downward spiral. I am grateful that I resigned before things got worse, but it’s a shame that a place that can do so much good is run by a person who is so uncaring.

The Ranch is unorganized and constantly grasping a straws to try to make operations work.
Most employees, that have to interact with the patients daily, are improperly trained for their positions. Not of their own fault.
Management has made numerous empty promises to staff about pay increases and the betterment of work situations.
Transportation vehicles, housing, and other buildings are in disrepair. Many of the onsite activities advertised to clients have been eliminated due to lack of qualified staff or are just nonexistent.
The Ranch intake department is mixing chemical-dependent rehab clients in with the mentally unstable clients. These are two completely different types of disorders that cannot be treated by the same therapy offered by The Ranch or monitored by currently staffed RAs.

The management at the facility level and at the corporate office are unethical, money grubbing, corrupt individuals, and will throw anyone/everyone under the bus to save their own skin.  There is no such thing as colaboration/team work.  It is an every man for himself, backstabbing environment.  The corporate CEO was having an affair with one of the workers (confirmed and verified), advancing her career and income from $40k to over $100k without the experience to back that and passing others up that deserved the position and increase.  They DO NOT care about client SAFETY and consistently accept clients that need a higher level of care due to suicidal ideation or need a high level of psychiatric care just to keep the census up and collect the insurance dollars.  They consistently take employees that care and turn them into employees that don't care anymore.  It is a horrible place to work.

The supervisors and manager at this workplace were genuinely amazing. They were supportive, knowledgeable, and made a real effort to help staff grow and learn. Because of their leadership, I was able to gain valuable experience and develop skills that will benefit me in my career.

The residents are also incredible and were the main reason I stayed as long as I did. Working with them was truly rewarding and made the job meaningful.

However, the work environment among many of the staff was extremely difficult. There was a lot of favoritism and a strong clique culture. If you were not part of the main group, it could feel very unwelcoming and isolating. Unfortunately, the amount of drama among coworkers often made coming to work stressful and unpleasant.

This job has great leadership and wonderful residents, but the team culture among staff is something that would need significant improvement for it to be a consistently positive work environment.
